Reasonable Expectations for Steere

Don't be surprised if he is not the down low guy but more of a PF/4. In the October practice he was showing a love of the 10 to 15 footers. His inside game will be predicated on him getting position and getting the ball not so much the offensive boards.

Sorry if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but when is he eligible? I recall reading the "earliest" he could play is the Albany game, but haven't seen anything recently.
Albany.

BTW, this is taking on "What channel is the game on" proportions. surprised Moose hasn't chimed in.B) :)
Is he eligible for the first half of the Albany game or just the second half? ;) :)

If he’s more shooter than post player then I’ll be disappointed. That’s not the player we need. If he’s a guy we can throw it to in the post and he can score occasionally that would be good enough. If he could ever become a guy that has to be doubled that would be awesome. I am sure we’ll see plenty of dump offs and put backs.

WV, Brown then Albany with Steere available. Happening soon, Dec. 18th.

Before the emergence of Roberts and Champ, I was hoping to see Steere eventually play like Cory Violette or Jody Lumpkin, two guys with similar height and weight and good hands. If he could have been a reliable double-digit scorer for us and grabbed 7.5-8.5 rebounds a game, it would have been huge for us.

Now I'm not sure he sees the ball enough to get those numbers offensively, but that many rebounds (or more) obviously would be an immense help.

+100.
The only game clips we have are from high school. He very well could have stagnated while sitting and now on his 3rd coach in two years. His father is a Beast and is in great shape. Maybe junior doesn't have the same training enthusiasm or maybe he is actually the best talent on the team but is a work in progress in understanding his role and the new system.
From his high school clips he projects as our 3rd or 4th scorer. I am more concerned that Heron and Figueroa play up go their potential so that players like Steere, Roberts, Dunn and Champagnie don't have to feel pressure to score.
Does anyone know when Steere is eligible? :silly:
They will be discussing it on the channel broadcasting our game.

the most important reasonable expectation or maybe tell tale sign of play is how many bronx pale ales does mjmaherjr get. 2=great sign it means I just got 1 before game and 1 at halftime. 3=25 minuets of hell and 15 minutes of mjmaherjr waiting on beer line. 4=Mullin sitting on scorers table type of game

He actually might have the 2nd prettiest jumper on the team after Heron. Expect a lot of 3s.

I say this in jest, but not too much jest. You are right. A quick review of his video highlights showed him shooting a lot of jumpers...and also dunking a lot.

Yes we should tamper our expectations but we have been so starved it will be hard
He is a young man has been working out with the team do not thing he will be out is shape if he was in his 30 s and has been sitting at a desk than yes These kids are
At this stage in shape unless getting over an injury but again yes to your statement not to expect the impossible but think at the very least he should be a beast underneath

Was told today Ian Steere's first game will be Arizona, not Albany. Elibible after first semester. #sjubb

Steere just needs to do the little things, setting screens, rebounding and holding ground defensively v physical guys down low. Whatever scoring he gives is gravy. He apparently has nice jumper which I hope he takes selectively. Don’t get three happy Ian. :)

Let's see what he does on court now. Those one game stats were against Maryland Eastern Shore in the last few minutes of a 46 point blowout.

Oh, boy, get ready for a new round of "When's Steere going to be eligible?" posts.:( :p

We've seen several of our young guys exceed expectations this year. Steere's been practicing with the team all year, no reason to think he won't have benefited from staff's coaching like the others have.

Based on the W. Va. game Steere's main contributions will be on the defensive end. W. Va. had more than a few baskets right around the rim by their tall athletic big men. Hopefully Steere has the skills to help Roberts defend in the paint vs big east competition.
If he can a game like Saturday's will be a SJU ten point win instead of a nail biter.
