Rasheem Dunn Waiver Denied (APPEAL WON)
I canvassed the timeline at CSU during the summer and there's no doubt that Rasheem's been hosed.
CSU was imploding by July; 6 players were in the portal; 2 leading scorers had transferred.
AD Garrett had kept Felton on despite a 2-year 22 - 44 record but he talked to some transferring players and decided Felton had to go.
Apparently a couple of Rasheem's friends had left but the kid stayed until Garrett fired Coach Felton in the middle of this turmoil on July 12.
He entered the portal the next day; a new coach was hired on the 26th.
Rasheem commited to St. John's Aug. 2.
Obviously, CSU tried to get Dunn back, but by that point he was likely set on returning home and SJ attracted him.
Where's the 'choice' here and how is losing 1 year of eligibility for a player that had sat out a year anything but punitive?
Hopefully this gets reversed.
That’s the crazy part. The kid even waited and decided to transfer AFTER his coach was fired. This should have been a layup for immediate eligibility. I can’t figure this one out?

I hope the twitter media keeps up pressure. Ncaa should be put on blast with this one and reverse it swiftly. This one is a no brainer it seems.

St. John’s fans mobilize after NCAA rules against Rasheem Dunn

https://nypost.com/2019/10/28/st-jo...medium=site buttons&utm_campaign=site buttons
Way to take a stand or even a position Zach.
Agree Bama, but this paragraph gives me hope:

"Meanwhile, Dunn and St. John’s are still working with the NCAA on the waiver request, according to sources, and feel he has a strong case to eventually get it approved. Forward Ian Steere also had his waiver denied, but he would be eligible to return in mid-December, once the fall semester ends, since he transferred in from N.C. State mid-year."

Could be stuff working behind the scenes. We shall see.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but the NCAA is completely arbitrary and capricious and does not care about how unfair their process is. If we were North Carolina then it would play out positively, but we are not North Carolina and when it comes to St. John's the NCAA has been close to completely dismissive of our requests.

I think of how long it took for them to review the Orlando Sanchez ruling which took from sometime in November of 2012 through the end of February 2013. Orlando wound up missing the entire 2012/2013 season while the NCAA twiddled their thumbs. Was that fair? Did it make sense? Was it in the best interests of Orlando Sanchez? The answers are No, No and No!!!!

I really don't like to be cynical here but the NCAA is awful and unfortunately Mr. Dunn is the victim of their callous indifference and totally arbitrary process.

You ned to punch a bully in the fucking nose. It'snot like we have to worry about them leaving us out of the tournament. Create as big a public relations nightmare for them

Look how many people signed that petition in a day. Start a go fund me campaign. Go all out and bring tonight this scam of a body is

If nothing else, this hose job has united us and got St John's fans on the same page
Something that rarely happens
Petition has over 2,300 signatures per Zach
Great job by the Johnnies faithful!!

AD Mike Cragg is an experienced professional who I am confident is handling the NCAA behind the scene actions and appeal in an efficient manner.

I would not be surprised if Cragg has retained attorney Michael Glazier who served as the General Counsel for the NCAA and who has represented more big time collegiate programs in dealings with the NCAA than anyone else.

I would not be too quick to sue the NCAA because lawsuits take years and Dunn does not have years to wait. In addition it is not good to sue the entity that serves the functions of investigator, judge, and jury as the NCAA does.. If someone was to sue the NCAA then Dunn should be the plaintiff not StJohn’s.

I have long despised the NCAA. IMO it is a corrupt entity that benefits old (mostly) men off of the efforts of kids.

I don’t disagree but it goes way past just the NCAA; include college presidents, ADs, coaches, in the case of basketball mostly, sneaker companies, and television. If you think hard enough and honestly enough, it includes all of us for supporting such travesty. It is really hard to walk away, sports have been a huge part of my life since forever but there is a real aspect of hypocrisy involved when I rail against the reality when it affects my team and ignore it otherwise.

.@StJohnsBBall request for a waiver for R Dunn from Cleveland St to play now is denied.Shows the inconsistency by the @NCAA on transfers. RASHEEN DUNN should be granted eligibility .@AdamZagoria @NYPost_Brazille

Two things I'd love to know:
1) Were any of the other kids who transferred out of Cleveland St granted a waiver to play this year? and...
2) Did Cleveland St oppose ALL waiver requests for their kids who transferred out this summer?

Feedback from NCAA re why waiver application was rejected a is an essential part of process. Agree solid legal representation and aggressively pursuing appeal is needed, but understanding the elements of initial rejection is step one. Cragg is a deliberate strategist and not a knee jerk type guy. Let’s see what step one yields and see strategy in response.

I signed the petition and hope that everybody on this site does as well
We need to do all that we can to get this ridiculous decision overturned

I signed the petition. Agree with Paultzman on path forward. School needs to get chapter & verse on NCAA rationale for denial (assume there is one) and engage experienced counsel to advocate for reversal. Probably unrealistic knowing how NCAA operates to expect Rasheem to play before 2nd semester.

With emotions running very high, thank you for being one of the few voices of reason. As you always are.

We need Bilas to get on board with this story line.

Agree, but hopefully the fallout from their initial decision motivates them to take a second look more quickly then normal. We shall see.
