Rasheem Dunn Waiver Denied (APPEAL WON)
How can any reasonable explanation be given for the following:
A top rated impact football recruit , Justin Fields, transfers from Georgia to Ohio State and does not have to sit out even two days because he overheard a racist remark in the dressing room.
Dunn is required to sit two years and lose a year of eligibility.
AD Cragg should contact Ohio St. and find out what or how much did they include in the transfer application.
Each sport has their own rules. Football has made the rules much more flexible than basketball.

I signed the petition, but come on. The petition is: "For Rasheen Dunn to be eligible to play this season for St Johns University". At least spell the guy's name and our school correctly.

Oh well, still a good cause. Posting again for anyone who hasn't signed it yet:

Well how good is Rasheen?

I get the fact that everyone, myself included, is frustrated by the arbitrary decision denying Dunn a waiver. Emails and petitions are one avenue. The freeway here is to get a high-power attorney and threaten to sue the NCAA over this. Maybe they don't want to deal with all the negative publicity that'll involve plus the monetary consequences. Just sayin'

Yes, good idea, and hoping St. John's pursues that option.

Any chance he at least gets eligibility the 2nd semester? Maybe a compromise. I wouldn't be thrilled, but its better than nothing.

Works for me.

Yup, better than zip-po. And that's my 'working theory', lol. That way the NCAA can show they're 'flexible'--even magnanimous--as well as display their 'authority'.

St. John’s fans understand how important junior guard Rasheem Dunn is to their team’s success and they have responded to what they feel is an unjust ruling by voicing their support on social media.

Since The Post reported Sunday morning that the NCAA had denied the Cleveland State transfer guard’s waiver to be eligible immediately, which in turn would cost him a year of eligibility and force him to sit out a second straight year, Johnnies fans have taken to Twitter and Instagram with the “FreeRahDunn” hashtag that senior Mustapha Heron started to implore the NCAA to rethink its stance. An online petition at Change.org also has gained over 1,900 signatures as of late afternoon Monday.

St. John’s was counting on Dunn to be a factor this season, after losing starters Shamorie Ponds, Justin Simon and Marvin Clark II. The Brooklyn native sat out all of last year at Cleveland State after transferring from St. Francis Brooklyn. But when his coach, Dennis Felton, was fired and several teammates transferred, Dunn opted to return home. He averaged 15 points per game two years ago and may have been St. John’s starting point guard.

I'd still be extremely disappointed if he's ineligible for the first half. Sure, better than being ineligible for the entire year, but only barely. The first 3 years under Mullin basically ended in November (year 1/2) or January (year 3).

Remember year 2 where we did AWFUL OOC (lost to Minn, MSU, VCU, Old Dominion, Delaware St, LIU Brooklyn and Penn St)? Well, our last OOC game we somehow won at Syracuse (by 33!) and we went 7-11 in conference with a win over #13 Butler. Those were some BIG wins in late December that were severely dampened by our awful November/early December losses.

Remember year 3 where we lost 11 games in a row and then won 4 in a row against #4 Duke, #1 Nova, Marquette and DePaul? Those were no doubt some incredible wins in isolation, however they were completely overshadowed by the fact that we were all but eliminated from the Tournament/NIT regardless of how well we did during the final 2 months. Just imagine how much better those wins would've been if our overall seasons weren't so awful. The only thing we had to look forward to was the following year, but 2020-21 could be even worse given that we'll likely lose our 2 best players.

If by some miracle we survive November/December without Dunn and without any bad losses, then great. I'm just not very optimistic that'll happen. I want to escape the first half with at least a chance at sniffing the NIT/NCAA. It'd be super frustrating if we perform poorly OOC and then Dunn/Steere give us life when our Tournament hopes are dead.

A plea to ALL media honchos: Keep it rollin' keep it up, keep it goin': "FreeRahDunn" as Mustapha so eloquently put it.

I totally agree Adam. But the NCAA is so arbitrary and authoritarian that a consolation prize is better than no prize.
But this decision stinks and hopefully is reversed 100%.
"FreeRahDunn" as Mustapha eloquently said.
I do think that chances for a total reversal improve if these media honchos keep up the pressure and the disbelief. The NCAA like all authoritarian outfits hates to be exposed and embarrassed.

Nice to see Howie be vocal, we need more of the major names in college basketball - Rothstein, Katz, etc to get vocal

If you could get some coaches to say something in favor of Dunn, that would make them look good to their current team and kids they are chasing. Imagine (this is a dream) if the Big East coaches came out in favor of letting Dunn play. The league would look incredibly "unselfish and supportive of student athletes."

Maybe Lavin could make some noise. I suspect it is too early for Chris to get involved.

I canvassed the timeline at CSU during the summer and there's no doubt that Rasheem's been hosed.
CSU was imploding by July; 6 players were in the portal; 2 leading scorers had transferred.
AD Garrett had kept Felton on despite a 2-year 22 - 44 record but he talked to some transferring players and decided Felton had to go.
Apparently a couple of Rasheem's friends had left but the kid stayed until Garrett fired Coach Felton in the middle of this turmoil on July 12.
He entered the portal the next day; a new coach was hired on the 26th.
Rasheem commited to St. John's Aug. 2.
Obviously, CSU tried to get Dunn back, but by that point he was likely set on returning home and SJ attracted him.
Where's the 'choice' here and how is losing 1 year of eligibility for a player that had sat out a year anything but punitive?
Hopefully this gets reversed.

Great idea to get Big East coaches to speak out. I hope St. John's pursues that avenue. Guessing the Commissioner's Office would orchestrate that?
