Rasheem Dunn Waiver Denied (APPEAL WON)

Btw Quade Green ruled immediately eligible at UW after leaving Kentucky

Unreal
How is his case any different from Steere's. It's not like he went back home or anything. He felt he got recruited over and left same as Steere.
As Paultz suggested, it's a different outcome when Calipari picks up the phone. #SameOldNonsense

A total crock ruling by the NCAA. Green played in 9 games last season, averaging 17.6 mpg. How in hell can the NCAA justify this yet rule-to-the-letter of the regs on Micah Potter and Ian Steere.
Hypocrites to the core.
I don’t disagree it is a crock but two points to make. First, there is not one “committee” ruling and since the “criteria” is so nebulous and subjective and different people are going to have different interpretations, different criteria weighting, etc.creating different rulings for seemingly like cases. Secondly, the appeals are heard, at least according to what Auriemma said in the interview I and others have posted about, by a completely different set of people, people he at least feels are much more qualified to judge. In the interview he stated that he would “not be as disappointed” if Evina Westbrook, a transfer from Tennessee, had to sit if the appeal is denied because at least he thought those people were qualified to judge.
Bottom line, IMO, forget the waiver system, make everyone sit or no one sit. I know it is harsh for those with legitimate real life responsibility situations but we all have to deal with those realities, not just college athletes.

The 1-free-transfer idea may be a good 'reform'. Moose is one poster who advocates that and I agree.
Coaches can change jobs at will, a student athlete should be allowed to transfer one time in his college career also 'at will'.

Everyone knows the ncaa favors the p5 teams.
Every conference (other then the p5) should leave the ncaa, you know, like the p5 was gonna do.

Seriously they only care about the p5, they don't do anyone else any favors

I respectfully disagree. If the non P5s schools leave the NCAA then the non P5s would not be able to compete in the NCAA basketball tournaments with even a greater balance of talent going to the P5 schools since the non P5s would be looked at as being D1-AA.

If anyone were to leave the NCAA it would be the P5 ... and don't be surprised when they do.

Auriemma went after Phil Fullmer, the Tennessee AD today. In his patented sarcastic way, he “praised“ Fullmer for “changing” his waiver position because after not supporting Westbrook’s waiver helping to kill her chances, Fullmer was incredulous in a presser yesterday that a men’s transfer into Tennessee was denied the waiver. Talked about how waivers should only be about the kids; hypocrisy squared.

The whole concept of support from the original school is absurd (as is the whole transfer approval system). When someone quits their job, or gets fired the law states that the former company can't provide feedback on their time, recommend or not. Just their dates of employment, position etc. Should be no different here. Validate their academic standing and that's it.

Kids did their time, whether practice or game time and represent the school during their time.

Should be free to go wherever they feel is best based on options available.

The paying for likeness thing scared me at first because I thought it would lead to the F5 leaving the NCAA. Well, now it looks like it's on that trajectory again. If the F5 separate from the NCAA and the Big East is not along for the ride, we are no longer a major program. MSG would no longer host us, and the fan support would die. Really hope this does not happen. Would also kill the NCAA tourney forever.

True, but employers can include a non-compete clause when employees are hired. It's not exactly the same, but they do have some control on where their employees are allowed to work when they leave.

Yes, although in the case of a non compete, there typically needs to be consideration (i.e., compensation) to make it enforceable. Otherwise, said employee will/can go wherever he/she pleases. And as we know, “compensation” is not supposed to currently be part of the equation for student athletes. And, no I don’t think a scholarship is enough here, since all college b-ball players get that, besides the Ivy League schools.

Paultzman said we might hear something today. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope we get something going our way.

Good points about non-competes, but my wooly brain clicked 'on' for a few waves and I recall them levied only on 'Rainmakers' in Wall Street parlance---i.e., Super 5* guys, and were a relatively rare occurrence--used by vindictive corporate CEO's at 2nd-tier shops...in this case by a vindictive AD at a 2nd tier place, lol.

Lol. You’re right about the AD, that’s for sure. I’ve seen them used in the Corporate world more often in the last 10 years or so, but not really enforced unless a particular company has a pattern of raiding your employees.

Nonetheless, regarding student athlete transfers, while I hate the high volume of turnover we see in college sports these days, they are a reality. And the transfer rules, as many have stated, need an overhaul, with a governing body that applies a more fair and consistent approval process.
10 working days! Why? I'm sure they'll use every last day.
Agreed......if that J@ck@$$ Athletic Director does cooperate, he will wait until the 10th day.
