This criticism of Jenkins is silly and tiring. You see any one else looking for the ball to take shots when game is on the line? You want Ledlum taking that shot? Luis? Dingle? They disappear come crunch time.
Conway could have had three free throws if he wasn't afraid to shoot. He would have been fouled with 15 seconds left

The latter is false
Yeah, that may have been a little bit of an overstatement. But it seemed we saw more in-game coaching earlier in the season than we've seen in the big moments of these tight games. Earlier in the year, I thought "Pitino will find a way to pull this out..." I'm not feeling that right now.

All that said, there is no one else I would want running this program. I still believe we'll be back – just maybe not this season.

I don't think anybody's quit. I just don't think there's much talent here. Certainly not enough to win in the Big East. We may have been so unknown early, that opponents didn't have a clue on how to play against us, hence the 4-1 start.

The more I think about it, the more I believe that getting 6 Big East wins out of this group, while only playing one game against the two bottom feeders so far, is quite an achievement.
So the team has enough talent to get leads, big leads, enough talent to be right there at the end of games but then the lack of talent consistently kicks in the last, oh, 2-5 minutes and boom, another loss. This team has talent, certainly more than enough to have won more than 6 league games.
Just take a look at ghostzapper’s summary above to see that 6 wins is far from an achievement IMO.

Yes. That's usually how it works. There's not many teams like DePaul this year, who are just out of it early every game.

There's some ability on this team, but not enough to win in a league like this. Compared to the rest of the teams in the league (outside of the bottom two), we are behind them talent-wise. Not by a ton, but we are behind, especially at point guard.

Well, the facts don’t bear that out, we just disagree. Funny how the best player on the team, talent wise, is the one you choose to single out after citing the lack of talent as the problem. My last comment for sure.

He's a combo guard. A 1 and a half, if you will. He's certainly doing all he can. When someone like that is your best player (and he is), it kind of speaks to the lack of talent for the rest of the team.

Had we gotten Clayton, and moved Jenkins to the 2, we would have been so much better.

In terms of Jenkins, he is clearly played out of position. He would make a great shooting guard. Every shot he takes he has to create himself. If we had a legit PG who could penetrate and dish to Jenkins for open looks he would be a prolific scorer.
Right on point . He’s not a true point guard but no one else on the team really is. Did Pitino screw up by not getting one ?
He could have kept Posh (even if he still can’t shoot) or Kolby King.
If Jenkins went down for any time who takes over the point?
Imagine how many turnovers we would have in a game

Yes, let's bench our best player because of one run without him in Providence. That's definitely the answer. Brilliant.
Bench Jenkins!
Bench Soriano!
Bench Conway!
Bench Dingle!
Bench Luis!
Bench Wilcher!
Bench the entire team!

At one point or another, our psychotic fanbase has called for every player to be benched, and replaced by whoever their flavor of the moment is.

Here's the reality of it, we don't beat any decent Big East team without significant contributions from both Soriano and Jenkins, our two best players(I know Soriano is playing like crap now) by far. Like I said during the game, we don't win this if Joel doesn't step up. He didn't and we didn't.

So unless some of you guys want us to bail on the rest of the season, please stop with the "bench Soriano and Jenkins" nonsense and hope that Soriano snaps out of his funk and Jenkins keeps elevating his game. They're our best hope for salvaging something from this disappointing season.

Jenkins was far, far, Far and away our best player the 4 prior games to tonight so the resident drama critic was reduced to muted snide remarks and back handed compliments. Today our Mvp was less than for him so our resident malcontent is of course proudly back in full throat. Same as it ever was...same as it ever was.

Pitino didn’t all of a sudden forget how to coach, I believe blowing up the team definitely made things harder but the problem is ST John’s. Could jump in Doc Brown’s Delorean and Bring back 1968 John Wooden and we would finish 17-15.
This. It's not the coach or Jenkins or Soriano or Drissa or Dingle or Luis or which freshman plays. It's not that CFC's players all left to star elsewhere or that our transfers come from 1590 SAT schools or Marco Baldi schools instead of bag money schools. It's not that we didn't get Clayton or miss free throws or who starts. It's not that our defense is man or zone or when we call timeouts or pick and roll. It's not the size of our NIL fund. It's not what venues we play in or that the zebras sodomize us. IT IS US! Somehow the cosmic continuance of the universe has gone off kilter and this is just how it's meant to be. I'm sorry. You guys are great fans and deserve better.

The team is not fractured into 2 groups. There’s some obvious frustration with the losing and two players in particular. It will be worked out this off-season one way or another. But changes are coming and not just among the players

At this juncture, We are a very good mid major team. All things considered that's a pretty good accomplishment. RP had 2 returning players. Next year? Who knows. Do our 2 frosh step up? What do we get/lose in portal? Additional recruit commits?
It could be more of the same. Our brand gained nothing thus far. Except for RP's notoriety we are still what our record says we are. Certainly not too late to make an incredible turn around. But B.E. is a beast of a league. It will take more than we've got I'm afraid. 🤞Go Johnnies!!
