Exactly how I thought it would go. Pitino was asleep at the wheel on the last possesion. Should have called a timeout immediately once we rebounded the jenkins miss.

Another season w/o the tournament. Oh well.

Pitino needs to bring in 2-3 total studs in the portal or this is going to happen again next year.

Bad news guys: Heading over to my parents house to watch the game tonight.

Here is the full list of games I have watched at my parents house this year.

Michigan
Boston College
@UConn
@Creighton
@ X

Sorry fellas but my parents got a lot of leftovers from their super bowl spread 😂. Don't blame the loss on Daniss tonight, put it on me.
Jack is no longer allowed to visit his parents on game day.

Not in the last minute of close games. Nobody else ever gets a shot. How the hell does this kid have ANY confidence after missing so many last second shots?
This criticism of Jenkins is silly and tiring. You see any one else looking for the ball to take shots when game is on the line? You want Ledlum taking that shot? Luis? Dingle? They disappear come crunch time.

Far be it for me, a mere former HS coach to question the decisions of a HOF coach but:

1. Why not call a timeout on the last possession to try to set up a decent look at the basket? What we did was absolutely pathetic!!!

2. Why do we have our "bigs" come out to guard guys 40 feet from the basket and allow teams to generate lots of easy layups?

3. Why is Luis allowed to bring the ball up when he rebounds? It's almost a guaranteed turnover. He needs to slow it down a bit

4. Why don't we work more on basic fundamentals? Our team's collective IQ is extremely low. Way too many unforced errors/turnovers

I didn't expect miracles this season but I certainly didn't expect this. A very disappointing season to date
But, as a two time alum, I will continue to watch and root for our Johnnies to try to turn it around
I still believe that, if we play like we did in the second Villanova game, we can play with anybody in the Big East
Points #1, 2 and 4 were made ad nauseum last year by many posters regarding Coach Anderson. I guess it is true that the more things change, the more they remain the same.

Terrific post. Next time I see Rick I will remind him to work on fundamentals and credit you with that very sound advice!

As it was pointed out we have gone 2 and 7 over our last nine Big East games. I think that in six of those losses you could characterize as us playing poorly when the game was on the line:

1) At Creighton we were up 7 with 9:47 left and still up 2 with just 3:28 left. We were outscored the rest of the way 5 to 2 and lost by 1.
2) At home against Marquette we were tied at 56 with 10:50 left when they went on a 15 to 2 run over a four and half minute stretch. We then countered with our own 13 to 2 run during a 4:45 stretch as Marquette was collapsing. However in the final 1:35 we could not get over the hump and only made a single free throw to lose by one.
3) At Xavier we were tied at 75 with 2:44 left but were outscored 13 to 2 the rest of the way.
4) Up 46 to 45 at home against UConn with under 13 minutes to play, we were outscored 32 to 18 the rest of the way.
5) At Marquette we were up 15 with 2:35 left in the first half and despite letting that lead slip away we were still down only 2 points with just over 3 minutes to play when Marquette blitzed us with an 11 to 2 run to close out the game.
6) Tonight at Providence we were tied at 70 with ninety seconds to play and were outscored 5 to 2 to finish out yet another close defeat.

At the end of the day, our end games are not what they need to be. It would help if we had someone like the Knicks have in Jalen Brunson who seems to often make the right plays in crunch time. However, it also seems to me that its the coach's responsibility to put his players in the right position to make winning plays when the game is on the line. Perhaps that is too much to ask with this cast of characters, but it is something that plenty of other teams manage to do.

Our new Hall Of Fame coach arrives without humility and fires—or least does not encourage to stay—almost the entire team. Instead of the stampede of 5 star players he expects, he gets an ambling of mid-majors. He’s arrogant, and past his prime as a tactician. However he’s insanely, furiously driven, and I love him for that. Can the aging genius do it one last time? Who knows? It’s the high drama of St. John’s basketball, and I’m addicted to it.

You’re right, Mrs. Jenkins. He didn’t miss shots on back to back possessions down 1 at Creighton (and a rebound), he didn’t miss an open 3 down 2 against Marquette, he didn’t miss a 3 down 2 against Xavier and then let up back to back threes to put the game out reach, he didn’t airball a game-tying 3 tonight.

He’s actually a very clutch player and great inside two minutes. Luis hasn’t been fighting with him for a month and half the team isn’t feuding with him and Soriano.

He’s also not the worst defensive PG we’ve ever had And we don’t have 11 losses. He should be player of year nationally. Mr. Clutch.

You don’t have to say Jenkins miss. Just say shot with the game on the line and we know the result. IMG_2500.jpeg

OK ladies......time to loosen the girdle and take a deep breath!

Pitino seems to have done everything many here have opinionated for this game.
He benched our captain who was uninspiring to his teammates. He started Luis over Taylor whose NIL seems to have a "do not shoot" clause. He played a more natural shooter, Conway, over Alleyne.
The game came down to two missed shots by Jenkins and Dingle.
Great ending that went in the home team's favor..
Yet, EVERYONE, is shocked by the result.🤔😱

You can blame Pitino all you want but this game would not have been this close had he not recognized that Soriano's head is hard to motivate, even in big games. That Alleyne is struggling big time and that the freshmen hit the proverbial freshman wall.

A couple of bone headed turnovers and missed foul shots is all that separated a win from a loss.

Hopefully two guys that have completely disappeared from the offense rejoin the team soon. Soriano and Taylor hopefully get the message.

Lay off Jenkins and Luis. They have more game than any other players on this team.

There are moments when I feel this group has quit on their coach. Even more concerning, there are moments when I feel like this coach has quit on this group of kids.
I don't think anybody's quit. I just don't think there's much talent here. Certainly not enough to win in the Big East. We may have been so unknown early, that opponents didn't have a clue on how to play against us, hence the 4-1 start.

The more I think about it, the more I believe that getting 6 Big East wins out of this group, while only playing one game against the two bottom feeders so far, is quite an achievement.
