@Providence, Sat., Jan. 6, 12 Noon, FS-1

This was the most winnable game in the past 4 big east contests. I hate to say it but the refs were terrible and called around 4 fouls that, when shown again, clearly were not.
While the coaching was slightly better the banishment to the bench of Jones for the balance of the second half removed a scoring threat and hurt our offense. The teaching moment should not have lasted for most of the critical part of the game.
Stanley is the most effective inside player after Soriano and they don't utilize his length and athleticism enough.
With a steadier lineup this should have been a win but coach Anderson was into a potpourri state of mind and the results are mixed.
As for sniffing an NCAA bid, "all in all it's just another brink in the wall".

I felt any hope for post season play was just a dream after watching the Villanova game. So I considered Anderson’s decision to play Storr and King and the other bench players some minutes a smart move.
This strategy should help decide what players can contribute next season and might prevent some players who SJU doesn’t want to lose from entering the transfer portal.

I don't think that CMA is in a position to be coaching for next season. IMO he's just throwing s_ _ t at the wall and seeing what sticks. Plus we've still got a shot at the NIT, which would all but assure his return.

The regular season is over regardless of the outcome on Tuesday. As usual, our only hope is to win the Big East Tournament.
It is, but atleast they're still playing hard as today showed, a loss vs. Buter and the wheels could really start coming off.

Notice how every off season is the same. They get key additions (Curbello, Jones), almost everyone from last year returned.
People saying that those 2 will be the difference makers, people get excited.

Then the season starts and reality smacks everyone in the face, they aren't as good as everyone thought.
It's like, different coaches, different years = Same old shit over and over and over.

Eventually alot (not all) of people will say "my heart can't take it anymore."

So did Curbelo know he had to hit the rim or forgot or didn’t know? I’m still confused what he did there or what his intent was.

Best thing to happen for SJU basketball is for them to lose every game, then they will have to fire him if he doesn't step down, you can't pay a coach who gets 3 conference wins.
Then in the off season will be their last chance for Rick, he'll be 71 soon, if we go to a young mid major coach, then we won't even consider Rick Pitino in 4 years, when SJU is looking for another coach.

Georgetown will probably pick up Pitino, it’s the SJU irony.

They played hard today and came up short. Nothing to hang their heads about.

Problem is, they've given themselves no margin for error with losses to Villanova, SHU, Xavier and Marquette. Need to start winning a few of these games and with each loss, basically our hopes for NCAA bid are long gone. Bottom line, they are 1-5 in conference play and that is terrible. They have 14 games left on the schedule. Maybe if they win 11 or 12 of them they have a chance. But more likely, their season is over. This was the risk in doing a pathetic OOC schedule.
No way this poorly constructed team is winning 11 or 12 more BE games. Never happening.

True. Tho Curbelo has had his fair share of success finishing at the rim this year. Posh it’s been a nightmare mostly. Wusu who you mentioned is shooting close to 60% on 2 pt shots.
Wusu has no bid range game. It is either a 3 point shot or a drive to the basket. So 60% of layups + the times he just loses the ball on the way to the basket is not impressive to me.

Comparatively to what others shoot, it should be.

I get your frustration, but what do you expect him to say? He can't be brutally honest in public. It's "coach speak." I just hope he's reading some guys the riot act in private.
titslly
Sorry Boo but I disagree with you. On a decent team Storr would have gotten minutes in the easy games prior to conference play to acclamâte him to the game. He would have been given the opportunity to make his mistakes against the weak competition. Unfortunately, we did not blow out teams in the preseason and therefore he didn’t get the opportunity to learn and grow against the lesser competition.
Right now we don’t know if he ever will be that go to guy because he wasn’t given the proper opportunity.
Sure Storr could have gotten a few more minutes in the pre-season, but what exactly have you seen from him that suggests he could have been the go to player at crunch time against Big East commotion at the stage in his career? He can hardly put the ball on the floor

I think there are more guys on this team who can contribute than have been given the opportunity. There are LOADS of freshman all over the country playing meaningful minutes. We have a bunch of players who have underachieved. And we have other guys like Storr, King, Stanley etc who should be getting more consistent play imo.

Saying “We’re becoming who we want to be.” after a 5th straight loss is one of the most offensive things I've ever heard a coach say.

It's legit slap in the face to anyone with brain cells who supports this team. What exactly are you becoming? A team that actually gave a damn but still lost? A team that hung around and kept the score close on the road? A team that still doesn't play a lick of defense but kept it within striking distance.

Embarrassing doesn't even begin to cover it.

Amasingourfac pointed out WuSus shortcomings and we are all aware of Poshs offensive defeciencies. They both are pretty much now the same player as they were when they entered SJU.
Good coaching staffs work on players games so they show improvement as they matriculate. This doesn’t seem to show in many SJU players.
