@Providence, Sat., Jan. 6, 12 Noon, FS-1

We also had two bad techs. The Wusu flop, which would have probably been called a charge if he didn't go flying like he was hit by a dump truck, and Soriano's stupid woofing at Cooley after he hit a jumper in front of the PC bench. Don't remember how many made FTs that gave PC but it may have been the difference.

It's not the first time Joel has had a bad emotional reaction during a game. Love his fire, but he should be smart enough to know when to rein it in.
If what Wusu did is a technical, we should have seen 50 more called throughout the year so far. Ed Crosswell weighs more than 250 pounds. It’s not a flop if the contact comes first and causes you to fall. Do we really believe on any legit charge call the defender isn’t letting themself fall? A no call would have been completely acceptable.

How St. John’s is it, that the whole game Joel and Omar combined to go 14/15 from the field. They were 14 for their first 14. Their only miss was when one of them grabbed the net on an offensive interference call on a shot that would have given us the lead.

Providence couldn’t guard those two all night, and when it mattered most St. John’s did it for them.

Anyone know the details behind Pinzon’s injury/minutes? He hasn’t played much if any over since DePaul

I would imagine Providence cannot understand how Stanley ranks 9th in minutes played for our team.

It wasn't so much the free throws, the tech on Soriano also counted as a personal foul, and he prematurely ended up on the bench in the first half, which was right around the time they made their first half run. Funny thing is, I don't think he committed another foul the rest of the game. The Wusu technical was a ridiculous call, Soriano's was borderline, but we don't win borderline usually.

Stanley is a real hard working, garbage man type of player...free throws are probably what is separating him from more minutes...much rather have him v Mathis/Jones on the floor. Like to see more of Soriano and Stanley start together in front court at same time. Backed up by Nywie

Three spots in backcourt...PG is Posh...2G is Pinzon...3G is Storr...let Jones and Belo come off the bench, give King 5-10 minutes. Some of these guys have been here long enough that their production is not going to change, they are who they are [Mathis, Posh 3pt shooting, Jones discipline, etc]
Storr over Jones? Are we tanking for a lottery pick?

I slept on it and turned on the mic. The fact that I have to be encouraged by the energy and effort in game 17 of the season stinks. St. John's played better, but didn't win. And it's really hard to look for silver linings.

The Silver Lining is somehow you were able to talk for 27 minutes. You definitely get the Golden Mic award on this one. Most of us would be cursing in the 1st minute :)

Truth is many on here are really frustrated with CMA and I get it. I am too. But I think it’s clouding our objectivity a little.

We may not like CMA’s press conferences and his “coach speak”, but he certainly didn’t say anything offensive. He’s trying to stay positive and keep an even keel. The kids did play better and if we can consistently play at that level the rest of t!r season — a big if — we’re going to win a number of games.

I get it that we’ve dug ourselves a huge hole and that we shouldn’t be satisfied with the fact that the kids played hard. I also get it that there’s no reason we shouldn’t have played like we did last game — or better — in each of our Big East games this year.

The administration should start looking for a new coach for next year. But for this year with this team, I think it’s only fair to the kids for CMA to remain positive and try to turn this around as futile as it may be.

For my part, I expect the Providence game will be a turning point and we are going to play better going forward. I think it’s too late for us to dance, particularly given our awful non-conference schedule, but I’m going yo continue to root like hell for this team.

LOL actual game talk was only about 20 mins - some messages about need for NIL and trying to convey that administration and staff and players want to fix this and are down in the dumps regardless what some may think or feel. The powers that be care...I hope people realize that

Staff and administration should care and be down. This is a business and bottom line is they needed to win at a reasonable level to dance in year 4. They get paid well to recruit solid kids, prepare the team and make necessary game adjustments.

Cragg and Mike should also be “down” re their OOC schedule collaboration, which clearly was sub par. Beating dead horse, but these games had limited potential for metrics and clearly did nothing to prepare them for BE wars. All in all, to date staff should take responsibility for dismal results far less than the HC’s expressed expectations and at least finish the season respectably. The buck stops with Mike and Cragg. Of course they are not happy thus far, but frankly I see no need to throw them a benefit. Suck it up and make the best of what remains.

All well and good that they are not happy and even if they take responsibility for what might end up as a dismal season that is not enough. In year 4 of this regime if they strike out again someone needs to walk the plank.

What exactly has Jones done? He came from a last place program, DePaul, and has done little to make the players around him better. he has shown flashes of 1-on-1 success but often his possessions are like turnovers. Let him come off the bench.

Storr, on the other hand, represents more future than Jones...

Storr has talent but hasn’t shown much when he has played. He doesn’t defend. Defense is actually the biggest problem for this team. Not saying bury him.

Jones doesn’t fit at all. He is what is called a “ball stopper” as when he gets the ball he feels he needs to dribble for ten seconds, minimum before he makes a move. Not that the staff is in position not to give him any minutes with this roster.

The guy who needs more minutes is Stanley. He can only score inside but Jones bulls inside for most of his points as well. Stanley makes his decisions with the ball quickly and moves without it. And he isn’t allergic to getting back on defense.

Storr has shown, in my view, better effort on defense and more aggression on offense because he played more the last 2 or 3 games. With playtime comes the experience and confidence to oo better. While I appreciate he is far from a "go to " guy overall for us at this point, when you are down 3 with less than 30 seconds, I would like him on the court because if the ball does happen to go to him, he is more likely than others to hit it.

Stanley also passes well out of post ups to cutters or open guys. Foul shooting is still an issue, but he should be rewarded for his hustle, pretty smart play and movement as noted above. Investing in in him over Nyiwe for the long term seems advisable. Lastly, don’t treat Stanley as an afterthought when in there and run some plays for him.

We are shooting 31% from three and 68% from the line. We can't afford not to play a guy like Storr who shoots 46% from three and 78% from the line. It's as simple as that, I don't care about his defense, it will get better as he gets time. He's also more athletic than half of the guys who play more minutes.

Been saying this since first game when Mathis was started at the forward position and Posh was moved to 2 guard. Insane starting lineup that set the tone for players playing out of position.
Omar just needs to cut down on fouls and get touches around the basket and he will get double digits every game imo.
Nyiwe has potential as well but this is a guard oriented offense with Soriano the prime target inside.
The forwards are underutilized.
