@Providence, Sat., Jan. 6, 12 Noon, FS-1

Saying “We’re becoming who we want to be.” after a 5th straight loss is one of the most offensive things I've ever heard a coach say.

It's legit slap in the face to anyone with brain cells who supports this team. What exactly are you becoming? A team that actually gave a damn but still lost? A team that hung around and kept the score close on the road? A team that still doesn't play a lick of defense but kept it within striking distance.

Embarrassing doesn't even begin to cover it.
you seem upset.....

I think there are more guys on this team who can contribute than have been given the opportunity. There are LOADS of freshman all over the country playing meaningful minutes. We have a bunch of players who have underachieved. And we have other guys like Storr, King, Stanley etc who should be getting more consistent play imo.
Agree with all except maybe King getting more minutes.

hit a few more free throws and take out the BS technical fouls and this is a W. It was a consistent and balanced effort, but between poor (again) 3PT shooting, poorly officiated game, and 50/50 balls going the Friars way too often, it's a tough L. Unless there's foul trouble for Soriano or Stanley, Nywie should have limited minutes. Liked how Storr, King, and Pinzon saw more court time. Coach blew the opportunity to get the bench meaningful minutes during cupcake season. Unless I missed it somewhere earlier in the thread, I don't know why Jones sat on the pine in the 2nd half.

Anyone know why Posh was a game time decision? He did appear to be laboring out there a bit at times.

Will Mathis be out awhile with his ankle injury? Look like he rolled it at the end of the Marquette game and asked out of the game immediately.

I get your frustration, but what do you expect him to say? He can't be brutally honest in public. It's "coach speak." I just hope he's reading some guys the riot act in private.

Lavin did the same exact coach speak when times were bad, and most on here absolutely killed him for it at the time. Yet some are calling for us to re-hire him lol.

I see loads of talent in Storr. He's a freshman and needs to play more to get better, no reason not to give him another start.
He’ll continue to have the opportunity to play more with Mathis out. I suspect his play will dictate how much time he gets. We’ll have to agree to disagree about Storr’s talent level. I see in him the potential for a good four year player, but he is quite a ways away from being a consistent impact player, let alone a go to guy on a Big East level team.

Announcers said it was a toe with Mathis

Truth is many on here are really frustrated with CMA and I get it. I am too. But I think it’s clouding our objectivity a little.

We may not like CMA’s press conferences and his “coach speak”, but he certainly didn’t say anything offensive. He’s trying to stay positive and keep an even keel. The kids did play better and if we can consistently play at that level the rest of t!r season — a big if — we’re going to win a number of games.

I get it that we’ve dug ourselves a huge hole and that we shouldn’t be satisfied with the fact that the kids played hard. I also get it that there’s no reason we shouldn’t have played like we did last game — or better — in each of our Big East games this year.

The administration should start looking for a new coach for next year. But for this year with this team, I think it’s only fair to the kids for CMA to remain positive and try to turn this around as futile as it may be.

For my part, I expect the Providence game will be a turning point and we are going to play better going forward. I think it’s too late for us to dance, particularly given our awful non-conference schedule, but I’m going yo continue to root like hell for this team.

Rooting for the team (which I always do) and expecting them to play better going forward (I don't unless Anderson greatly changes his player rotations. Meaning more Storr, Stanley, Pinzon and less Curbelo, Wusu, Nyiwe & Jones) are two different things.

Time will tell Boo. Let's hope we get to watch him develop at St. John's.

There are NO go to guys on this team.

Jones rode the bench most of the 2nd half for coming down a d taking an I'll advised 3 very early in the shot clock. I'm not offended by that decision at all. It was a horrible decision and one that he has made numerous times.

Stanley is a real hard working, garbage man type of player...free throws are probably what is separating him from more minutes...much rather have him v Mathis/Jones on the floor. Like to see more of Soriano and Stanley start together in front court at same time. Backed up by Nywie

Three spots in backcourt...PG is Posh...2G is Pinzon...3G is Storr...let Jones and Belo come off the bench, give King 5-10 minutes. Some of these guys have been here long enough that their production is not going to change, they are who they are [Mathis, Posh 3pt shooting, Jones discipline, etc]

I give Pinzon credit. While he is not a physically gifted defensive player, he was really working hard on that end of the floor.

For those that want more Storr (that includes me), I encourage you to watch him closely on defense. I am sorry to say, for now, he is clearly a liability on that end.

He also had the ball stolen from him and gave up on chasing the other player. I think that's what got him the hook.

We also had two bad techs. The Wusu flop, which would have probably been called a charge if he didn't go flying like he was hit by a dump truck, and Soriano's stupid woofing at Cooley after he hit a jumper in front of the PC bench. Don't remember how many made FTs that gave PC but it may have been the difference.

It's not the first time Joel has had a bad emotional reaction during a game. Love his fire, but he should be smart enough to know when to rein it in.
