@Providence, Sat., Jan. 6, 12 Noon, FS-1

Sorry Paultz I guess it’s just frustrating to read things like “the team fought hard” when that should be a given. They are playing basketball at a D1 level they should be fighting every game.

Truly I’m just tired of being the team that fought hard but came up short. The same damn story over and over.

This one’s specifically pissing me off cause I just wanted to enjoy my weekend but a noon tip off on Saturday and I’m already pissed off
Just wanted some positive vibes to get me to Carnesecca on Tuesday or making that trip msg

The fellas fought hard today, but still are 1-5, if they can't beat Butler at Carnesecca on Tuesday, then I predict things to go south real fast meaning lots of blowouts. Probably won't even get 5 wins.
The regular season is over regardless of the outcome on Tuesday. As usual, our only hope is to win the Big East Tournament.

Thought CMA did a good coaching job today. Thought the kids played hard and well. Having said that, we seem to lose a handlful or close games every season due to our lack of late game coaching and/or execution. Good coaches figure out how to pull out more close games then not.
Credit for pulling Jones in the second after a terrible rushed shot and credit for pulling Pinzon after the 30 foot rushed 3 he took when we had a 7 point lead. Credit for having the guys up and ready to play. Again, lost the adjustment battle and saw nothing out of timeouts that got us a good look.

You’ll say what adjustments did Prov make? Down 8 early, went to 3/4 court press and zone. When CMA called a timeout to draw something up against it, Cooley switched out of the zone. That’s one example. I want to and am more than willing to point out the examples of coach anderson making the adjustment that changes the game positively.

Storr I could see having the potential to eventually be that. I don’t know what you see in Posh’s game that would lead you to think he can be a go to guy. Just not a great offensive option when all eyes are on him, kinda easy to defend when it’s not a broken play, a steal, or a fast break.

I love the kid and scoring doesn’t need to be everyone forte, and for him it definitely is not.
I agree Posh isn’t an offensive powerhouse but in his freshman season he showed that he’s got the balls to take tough shots and drive to the basket and score or draw fouls.

Just because Champ basically evolved primarily into a jump shooter, he came up short many times when crunch time came. There are very few killers who are true go to guys in the tough spots. But Posh has the guts to be, out of all the guys we have to work with.

I trust Posh way more than I trust Curbelo.

Neither of them particularly trust worthy. I thought posh played a great first 10 minutes. Don’t remember any solid plays late, do remember a forced drive/spin and TO off a bad pass to King. Curbelo had a hand full of mistakes as well but he’s a better threat to get to the rim in a half court game.

Soriano the closest thing we have to a go-to guy, but they'll surround him at at crunch time and dare us to beat them from outside.

They played hard today and came up short. Nothing to hang their heads about.

Problem is, they've given themselves no margin for error with losses to Villanova, SHU, Xavier and Marquette. Need to start winning a few of these games and with each loss, basically our hopes for NCAA bid are long gone. Bottom line, they are 1-5 in conference play and that is terrible. They have 14 games left on the schedule. Maybe if they win 11 or 12 of them they have a chance. But more likely, their season is over. This was the risk in doing a pathetic OOC schedule.

It’s not a good game if you’re negative played outweighed your good ones and you cost us the game. The fact he made gone baskets is irrelevant considering all the poor decisions, shots and mistakes. He has skills but not a good basketball player.
I’m not speaking about his overall play. I’m just talking about today. He made some msk
Our go to guys could

Storr was solid today but he’s nowhere close to being a go to player

Serious question: did anyone at any point think we would win this game? My feeling, up 1, down 1, tied it was irrelevant. This was always a loss.

Not a great feeling but makes it easier to watch that’s for sure!
I actually thought we had a chance until I saw the way they came out to start the 2nd half.

I don’t think he coached a bad game today either. It’s more so just the environment he has created here this season. This team just doesn’t have the infrastructure to legitimately win games like this it feels like. They don’t have the defensive skills and they for sure don’t have the offensive sets.

Although I give him credit for getting Soriano a good mid range look. The Stanley basket interference was frustrating but he also fouled the shit out of the guy before it so it is what it is
Honestly, I wanted pinzon in at end of game. I thought he and team played well when he was in. I didn't want wusu in under 4. I think pinzon spreads the floor and would have helped team in last 4 minutes.

Today’s performance and effort level was more like the our good games in CMA years 1 - 3. Committed to defense for most part with some lapses and took mostly good shots with some lapses (Already noted by others). When we do these 2 things, we can and should be in a position to beat Providence.

Ordinarily, a close, road loss like this would not be as frustrating. But given the huge hole we have dug (once again), it was a critical loss of winnable game that would have put us in a position to get to 3-4 on Tuesday. May still have meant nothing even if it played out like that - but there would have been hope (albeit faint).

Soriano - continues his growth. . .he is adding a mean streak which shows he cares and is the obvious vocal leader.
Pinzon - rushed a few but is not afraid. Needs game reps to settle in.
Storr - made some good early drives that didn’t go down and seemed to be be more committed on defense.
Posh - looked more like the old Posh

Agree that CMA coached a good game and pulled guys that deserved to be pulled. However, I thought he went too long with Nywie in the 1st half when they went on their run. I like Nywie but he doesn’t finish contested drives whereas Stanley can.

We have seen what Nywie can do , which is very limited. We have seen what Omar can do to date with 2.5 years to improve. No doubt in my mind the minutes should be going to Omar, this is a no brainer.

Agree, when was the last close Big East game the team won when Anderson had to draw up some last minute plays? I can’t recall.
