FINAL SCORE
ST. JOHN’S 80
PROVIDENCE 83

BOXSCORE

Though we lost, I thought this was CMA’s best coaching this season. Used his timeouts, guys looked like they knew what the plan was.

One thing is clear we really don’t have a go to guy and sometimes you need that in tight games. Julian did not have great season, but between he, Wheeler & Posh, teams had to prepare for them. I stupidly thought Jones could be one of those types, but seems a “stat seeker” and lacks instinct to take good shots at right times. I was never a Curbelo guy and frankly he is playing like I expected, streaky w his moments, but not heady enough for my taste in guards.

Communication Communication. Down 82-79, 4 seconds to go. Curbelo shoots first FT while 4 guys getting last second’s instructions from CMA. Maybe one of the assistants could have shouted out “hit the rim” to Curbelo. Sure he should know this, but would a reminder hurt?

Down 3 1:30 left. Was yelling use a timeout make sure we get a good look. Had 2 TOs at that point. Needed a good look. Ended up in a contested mid range fade away by curbelo. What sucks is that we still did enough to win even with the mistakes our players and coaches made.

3rd game in a row we come out of halftime and have to burn a TO before the first media timeout. Can only happen so many times before you ask yourself what exactly is going on in the locker room?

To be fair should add, that in the first half coach anderson did not wait too long to use his timeout. When Providence cut the lead to 5 he used it. The problem was the next two shots we got were contested 3’s off the dribble! So who knows if calling the timeout would have resulted in a good look, but I do know it’s your job to provide them with the best chance to do so.

Thought CMA did a good coaching job today. Thought the kids played hard and well. Having said that, we seem to lose a handlful or close games every season due to our lack of late game coaching and/or execution. Good coaches figure out how to pull out more close games then not.

Curbelo did have a good game stat wise w 12 points and 4 assists. What drives me nuts is at crucial times he does amateur stuff like leaving his feet and losing ball as a result and taking wild layups. That said, you are right he had relatively decent game
It’s not a good game if you’re negative played outweighed your good ones and you cost us the game. The fact he made gone baskets is irrelevant considering all the poor decisions, shots and mistakes. He has skills but not a good basketball player.

Our go to guys could be Posh and Storr if the latter had been brought along quicker.

No one is interested in moral victories. On the other hand we came out well prepared and played well for the most part and I feel bad for our guys who deserved to win this one. I still question coach’s substitution patterns and we really hurt ourselves with poor free throw shooting.
I am not a fan of the way either of our two much ballyhooed transfers play.

Our go to guys bound be Posh and Storr if the latter had been brought along quicker.
Storr I could see having the potential to eventually be that. I don’t know what you see in Posh’s game that would lead you to think he can be a go to guy. Just not a great offensive option when all eyes are on him, kinda easy to defend when it’s not a broken play, a steal, or a fast break.

I love the kid and scoring doesn’t need to be everyone forte, and for him it definitely is not.

Curbelo took more shots than anyone else today, and Stanley shot 6 for 6 and only played 17 minutes. That tells you all you need to know as to why we lost today
