Providence (MSG), Wed., Jan. 10, 6:30p, FS-1

I know they started that 2nd half awful, gave up a big lead, made it hard on themselves by missing clutch free throws, etc but I don’t feel bad about wins anymore. Successful teams are the ones that find a way to win even when they make a mess of it. 4-1 is exactly the start they needed and they got there.
So right. Kansas loses to UCF tonight

Good win. Expected Providence to compete, and they did.

Think SJU fell for fool's gold after shooting 57% from the field and 45% from 3 in the first half and perhaps thought it would stay that easy. Also maybe fell into the trap of thinking when they survived Providence's punch in the second half that would be it and Providence would go away now, which it didn't.

Good learning experience.

Potential moron play of the game was Luis deciding that the way to inbound the ball was to thrown it off Carter's back and go collect it himself. Bruh, what? Not in that situation. Kid has talent, but a whole lot of mental and physical mistakes to clean up. Hopefully our good fortune if he's smart enough to take another year to be a college star before moving on up.

Rough waters ahead the next few games, but good to go into it with a bit of cushion in the W/L column.
In no way is he ready for the NBA.

Now that I’ve had a second to rein it in a bit, Jenkins clearly player of the game. I was at work so I couldn’t give the game my full attention at times but did Dingle play much in the 2nd half? Had a strong first half, looked confident and then…I don’t really recall seeing him much.

And, Zuby should have played some more. He was key during our mid-half run and then didn’t play the rest of the way. Putting Dunlop in toward the end was risky but give Luis a lot of credit. Our rebounding was crap in the 2nd half and he just wanted that more than Providence did.

We were very lackadaisical at times, and sometimes I think we completely take our foot off the pedal and think we can coast in with the W. I saw Pitino say in the presser he was mad at his guys. We go on this great run, play amazing defense for 5 minutes and then just go into relax mode. I give 22 a ton of credit, really their whole starting 5, that guy was possessed but no way this should have come down to one possession.

Anyway, 4-1 and 12-4. That’s all we could have asked for at this point.

On the LIRR heading home from the game and full day in the city with the wife celebrating her Birthday. All was great until the second half of the game. I think my blood pressure is finally going down back to normal.

I’ve said it before and this game bares it out again, we are not a smart team especially trying to close out a team.

A win is a win but we really dodged a bullet there which could have (probably should have) been a devastating loss.

As someone who has been friends with Lawman for 23-24 years if you ever use Bruh again I’m hacking the website and banishing you to the attendance thread :)

Pitino in the “I am Rick Pitino” stage of career.
Can play random guy for no good reason because he is Rick Pitino
I was gonna answer your 3-on-3 question before but I got a little too busy to respond…

Can I play with both Luis and Jenkins and not choose between the 2? I would just park my ass on the block and rebound and look for the occasional dish off the drive (probably from Jenkins). At my age, that would be ideal conditioning-wise. Probably the only way I’m touching the ball too. ;)

Jenkins played his best game, especially in 2nd half.
Don’t expect him to hit 25 footers and hope he doesn’t take too many of them.

I do not see it yet, but I also never saw it in Champagnie but did see it in Shamorie Ponds so what do I know. RJ to me plays like the game is too boring or slow for him. He gives off the appearance that he is only giving like 75% of effort. His way of play is mysterious to me. He will make an excellent play and then it can be followed up with a WTF are you thinking.

The only problem I had with him all night was shooting that trey off the inbounds…and I didn’t hate it.

I thought he was going to shoot himself into a 3-8 night when he started 3-4 but then he started feeding Soriano and letting him eat. It was a very mature approach. He played extremely calm.

This was definitely his best game of the year.
