Providence (MSG), Wed., Jan. 10, 6:30p, FS-1

Good win. Expected Providence to compete, and they did.

Think SJU fell for fool's gold after shooting 57% from the field and 45% from 3 in the first half and perhaps thought it would stay that easy. Also maybe fell into the trap of thinking when they survived Providence's punch in the second half that would be it and Providence would go away now, which it didn't.

Good learning experience.

Potential moron play of the game was Luis deciding that the way to inbound the ball was to thrown it off Carter's back and go collect it himself. Bruh, what? Not in that situation. Kid has talent, but a whole lot of mental and physical mistakes to clean up. Hopefully our good fortune if he's smart enough to take another year to be a college star before moving on up.

Rough waters ahead the next few games, but good to go into it with a bit of cushion in the W/L column.

One Providence fan on their board mentioned that we play all the toughest teams in the Big East basically in January and don’t play the bottom teams like Georgetown and DePaul until our last 9 games. It means we are playing the toughest matchups early and doing a very good job of it. Even it wasn’t the prettiest win, it’s a win against a very good team that was also 11-4. No slouch win here. Take it and move on.

Holding serve at home in the Big East is paramount. 3 for 3 so far. Upcoming games on the road. Ranked Creighton and posssibly a ranked Seton Hall next Tuesday. Huge opportunities to break serve and stay atop of the conference.
We have to take one of the two.

Would like to know what the issue is with Taylor. Dunlap should not have been in after injury and kind of understand why you don't want Ledlum in who is not good foul shooter historically but would have thought Taylor an obvious choice.

JACK, WHERE WAS TAYLOR AND ARE YOU GOING TO ASK PITINO ABOUT IT OR DO I GOTTA DO IT FOR YOU?

Just got back from the game. It seemed to me like we were begging for Providence to make a comeback and take the game. It also seemed Providence had louder fans at MSG than us and each time they made a big play or were coming back it felt like we were on their turf. I am still confused about the lineups. We missed very big free throws. D has improved but some very basic mental lapses costed us. No game is 100% perfect and a win is a win, the team hung in there and got the W. If Mullin or CMA was the coach, we would have lost this one. Lastly, RJ Luis is the man for grabbing that rebound he was locked in and wanted the rock.
