Providence (MSG), Wed., Jan. 10, 6:30p, FS-1

Providence is still a solid team without Hopkins.
Lots of positives to take from this game, but I’m sure Rick will lay into the guys. Gotta make better decisions down the stretch as well as knock down our free throws.

Game ball to Jenkins, 16 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds. 80% from 3 point range. Yes @Marillac2 80% 😀

4-1 without playing Georgetown or DePaul yet is huge no guarantees any game but if we handle those two teams like we should we would only need to win 2 other games to get to 10 league wins so gotta think we are going to do way better in league play then we expected.
We have Creighton and Seton Hall coming up next. If we play either of them the way we played the Friars tonight, we lose.

Any win is a good win. So, I’m good.

I won’t touch the obvious Free Throw shooting particularly down the stretch.

One thing, the last few games the guys running uncontested to the basket had been under control. Tonight? Way, way too many uncontested baskets. Soriano rarely helped. Not sure if by design to keep him out of foul trouble but damn. Hopefully Pitino works on this before Creighton.

Would like to know what the issue is with Taylor. Dunlap should not have been in after injury and kind of understand why you don't want Ledlum in who is not good foul shooter historically but would have thought Taylor an obvious choice.

It won’t be as pronounced against Creighton. They like to shoot threes and are not nearly as athletic as Providence without Kaluma and Nebhard.

Loved dingle's aggressiveness in first half.
Good providence d made it hard for Soriano to get the ball.
As others noted, game ball to Jenkins. He's getting better each game.
Not sure if we were ineffective on d to allow providence to shoot so well from deep.
Providence plays tough d with quick hands, crashes boards hard. Tough team. Hard fought team win.

I honestly think this was my favorite performance of any Johnny this season😕 We 100% lose without him.

This game in the second half was an alley fight. The words endured or survived come to mind. Inconsistent defensive effort in the second half (started the half badly, in the mid phase, did a real nice job closing out on shots and coming up with blocks, struggled at the end), and the foul shooting was again poor. They were fortunate that Providence was even worse from the foul line, and this probably decided the game. Big defensive rebounds late on the missed foul shots, but good scrapping by both teams. After such a big win on Saturday, a win like tonight can be more difficult, but even more lasting. Lots of coaching tape and moments for the team to absorb after this. Hoping that Dunlap's ankle isn't too bad. Two big road games coming up.
