Providence (MSG), Wed., Jan. 10, 6:30p, FS-1

You take this win any time you can get it. Providence is super scrappy and has a great college player in Carter, dangerous shooters and size. They’re tough, without Hopkins. With Hopkins, they’re a Sweet 16 team.

The team has improved so much from Day 1. They’re playing with a lot of energy and communication on defense. Sometimes they looked a little gassed tonight.

The team responded when they got hit, including when they lost the lead, and after a stupid/flukey 5-0 run. Soriano didn’t really play well for all but five minutes. I’m pumped we can win the game regardless.

I’m officially on the Jenkins bandwagon. The guy has improved a lot with less crazy shots + looking to distribute. He REALLY breathes life into this team. We shouldn’t judge him based on November.

RJ Luis is a NBA prospect, full stop. The kid is super lengthy, and shows glimpses on both side of the ball of a really special player. You can’t teach his athleticism. You can also see the potential to be a great offensive player. He will make some dumb decisions, but I’m so excited to see what is in store for him after another two months of Pitino’s coaching.

We should all be pumped about this win.

That block was nuts.

It won’t be as pronounced against Creighton. They like to shoot threes and are not nearly as athletic as Providence without Kaluma and Nebhard.
Agreed But you just can’t have defenders losing their man especially if our bigs are going to avoid blocking or altering shots. The “free runs” were just too numerous. Seems we had worked on it but took a step back tonight. The Announcer even mentioned it.

A win is win , 4-1 I’ll take it. They hit a couple of prayer threes and we missed too many free throws. Thats what made it so close at the end. On to Creighton. Our defense still needs work.
true, our FTs were nerve producing misses, but to be sure they missed foul throws all game..we were even luckier they missed that layup with a minute or so to go. as someone said take the win and prepare to play better vs Creighton

Soriano is really bad in space. I think Pitino is holding onto that zone to jump someone like he did against UConn. We are 100% going to zone Providence @ Providence.

They like to shoot threes AND layups. If you overplay the three line against them they will backdoor/pick and roll you to death. They don't have to be athletic when they're as well coached as they are. It needs to get cleaned up between now and Saturday.

Am I wrong, it didn’t seem that Jenkins handled the ball I last 90 seconds. Wanted him on the line, rather than Soriano.

He has a nice stroke from three so maybe it's not all bad, as long as he shoots AFTER A PASS. It's when he runs up and chucks it that matters.
Yeah, that’s what I’ve been saying all year. Step back threes are low % shots. Shots off the bounce are low % shots. He passed on one three late he would have shot any other game and gave the extra pass to Alleyne — who never gets those looks. Alleyne nailed it and it was huge.

We do that and we are a different team, man.

I know they started that 2nd half awful, gave up a big lead, made it hard on themselves by missing clutch free throws, etc but I don’t feel bad about wins anymore. Successful teams are the ones that find a way to win even when they make a mess of it. 4-1 is exactly the start they needed and they got there.

We will have to be a lot better to beat Creighton for sure. Need to really pressure them as they are weak at the point (Ashworth).
