Providence (MSG), Sat., Feb. 11, 12 Noon, FOX

1985 Preseason NIT semis was a helluva game too. Walter Berry put on a show, but Johnny Dawkins hit the game winner at the garden.
87 preseason nit as well. Jackson hit the back rim on drive at buzzer and duke won by 1.

I watched most of the game on TV and then read all 27 pages of the fan comments above. The metro north reports from the first 5 +/- pages were fun. Actually made me curious about the attendence 10,000 +/-. Best crowd this year? I'm thrilled for the guys on the team. Like many of the posters, I had this as a 20 point loss by our men. The coaching staff has, done a remarkable job keeping the team together in this disappointing season.

I will be checking the transfer wire to see if Curbelo is changing teams. I am not sure what kind of team/coach will take him. If I was CMA, I would not have Curbelo on the court again. I worry that even having him around the team is an unneccesary distraction.

Despite the semtiments of most of the posters, I would have CMA back next year. The Pitino fans make many good points about the home run hire Rick would be. I do worry that hiring Rick would indicate to the coaching brotherhood that the SJU job is a revolving door. The school does not have buyout money. That buyout money can be used for building a first rate on-campus basketball facility. CMA and Mike Cragg are improving the basketball program. It may not be as fast as we AARP fans would like, but I feel we are getting there. Fingers crossed for a win over DePaul.

Has Soriano's performance this year earned him an All-Big East honor? Opposing teams are certainly aware of him and he is still a double double machine.

not sure that Iagree with everything you say but appreciate your coherent thoughtful comments.

From a scouting and team chemistry standpoint, the biggest mistake CMA made here was thinking Curbelo would be a good fit. He had a projected Big East first team point guard returning, and somehow thought moving him to SG would be a wise move. Not sure why he believed that pairing up 2 smaller guards that weren't outside threats was a good idea. Posh was giving CMA 30+ minutes a game. CMA didn't need another PG. What was needed was a reliable back-up or a shooting guard that could cover the point if need be. The season was doomed because of CMA's decision.

Agree with your post and it seems that Colby King, whom we signed in November of 2021,
was the perfect backup for Posh for 15 minutes a game. Allowing AC to play the point over Posh led to a host of poor decisions.

Maybe because Posh has ideal size and shooting range to play the two 🤪

Not really true in Wheelers case. He stunk the first ten games or so
And then he was magically good or Anderson coached him up real good? Lol
It is really hard to play well with sporadic mins and shots which makes what Storr did early on incredible!
Wheeler had obvious skills which would clearly come through in practice if you had a competent coach observing said practice which we do not.
Was the same with Hardy and Brownlee with Norm

I'm always grateful when a player chooses to come here over other options give our history over the last 20 years, but I don't think it was a coincidence that the team played better, more controlled basketball without Curbelo yesterday.

In fact only time I can remember two 6 foot or less guards starting together was Boo Harvey and Michael Porter. Despite the fact that both were significantly more talented than Posh and Curbelo they struggled as well. Now struggling back then was limping in as a 9th seed I believe. Boo could shoot and Porter wasn’t a bad shooter either and jumped to the moon. But Boo played much better the year he came back without Porter.
Now he did play with Buchanan but he was a much more complimentary player.
