Providence Game

Jamal cutting his hand and not being able to play is just classic St. John's. If you root for this program, you just know.......

maybe it was Jordan's handlers pulling a Tony Harding-Nancy Kerrigan on him :)

Cut while slicing 10 foot hero for Adonis.

Greene Harrison and Dom with huge plays after Prov cut it to 3. Sr leadership. Nice win Johnnies!

And we scored 83 points, nice spread amongst our starters. Nice win Mr. Lavin.

Indeed, and Greene takes a lot of heat on these boards. When Prov cut to 3 he hit a 3 from the corner then had 2 nice takes to the hoop and made the bucket both times . Showed heart.

Am one of those critics who tips my hat to him tonight. Nice game under control, key reason why we won.

Fantastic win all around. Can't say enough good things about our players tonight. Just an outstanding performance by them in holding that lead. And you have to give credit to Lavin and the coaching staff for keeping the kids composed out there. Called timeouts when needed and kept the players fresh.

And when you think about it that 8 day rest didn't hurt at all.

Great game from Greene. He was the player of the game today no question. When he plays like this and Pointer and Jordan are at least average, we are very tough to beat. Harrison isn't even worth mentioning anymore since he will find a way.

I wish the 8 day rest came before the Nova game. We played four games in 11 days and had the whole Rysheed Jordan saga to make it worse.

Great response by a veteran team.

Greene went over 1,000 point mark tonight. Kudos Phil!

Gut check win tonight, it saved our season
We hit 4 more 3 balls in 4 less attempts, 58% - 28%
Phil was on fire hitting 5-8

It's good to see the Euro kid getting 14minutes, Balamou 7, and Joey 6.

On to DePaul.

Just got back from the Dunk and a few observations: Whitesell seemed to be very involved tonight, standing much of the second half when PC made their run. Also, Lavin was great with his substitutions, getting guys (CO, Harrison) out when they got in foul trouble. Even after LAv called the timeout to quell the crowd, there was a STJ turnover and then a PC bucket that got the Dunk as loud as ever, but then Greene hit a gutsy shot; showed a lot of you know what to hit that shot.

Also, Jordan's attitude seemed great throughout the night. Hopefully tonight is his turning point. IF you remember last year, he had a great game at the Dunk and then just took of from there.

Lastly, and I only bring it up because it is hilarious IMO, when the johnnies were up by double digits very early in the 2nd half, PG IV had the ball at the top of the key and Pointer was on the baseline and he must have pointed 4-5 times to the basket, basically asking for an alley opp, mind you there was a PC defender right on Pointer. I just found this amusing, Pointer having zero regard for conventional offense and basically thinking he can out jump anyone.

These kids are easy to root for and have a ton of heart. They could have easily put their tails between their legs when the 17 point lead was dismantled. Instead they hang super tough and slugged their way to a victory.

Feels good to be a St. John's fan tonight. On to win #2.

Didn't see a second of tonight's game but thrilled with the win. Beat DePaul (no gimme) and we have a chance to get back to relative even at home against Marquette next week.

Finally, a game where we went nutty from 3 and got poor shooting from deep in response. We've only been due for four years.

What happened to Jamal?

I think you are a little too much of an all or nothing poster. This win didn't save our season. We had the #31 RPI in the country coming in. We could have lost this game and been in better shape than were entering it by winning the next three.

I agree that it was great gut check win, but we need to avoid running for the ledge every time things don't go our way. We have an excellent RPI on our side and a very respected conference unlike last year.
