Providence Game Thread

There is something very, very ominous about Obekpa being on the bench right now.

As a coach of AAU teams, if one of my best player knows he needs to be out on the floor for us to win and commits 3 usless fouls within the span of 3 minutes and we're losing...........then he's riding the bench period.
 
early in the season I posted and received some snide remark about "nice first post" equating posting regularly with insight I suppose,
that i was prepared for some exciting wins, some frustrating losses and wait for the NIT bid. Not at all pleased that it turned out that way. so as a StJ fan for over 30 years and former STL athlete.... i guess it's nice 2nd post. we really are a mid major....sorry.
 
MJD is correct. We just got out hustled & out worked. Our offensive lulls are well documented, but our D was atrocious today.
 
This isnt the NBA: Lavin recruited and coaches these kids...this is ultimately his fault and the extension looks like a joke.

Any "big-time" program would fire lavin after this season
 
I agree. This is not all on lavin. We just suck all around today. But we needed an inside presence and I guess obekpa having 3 fouls u can't put him back in????

Don't get me wrong, some of our guys just didn't bring their games today, or the required effort in some circumstances.
But we started the game (and second half) like we had no idea Providence was going to throw a zone at us.
 
Whatever you sissy. The kids play like pussies because Lavin is a pussy. I'm done fuck this team. I am not watching the rest of this garbage effort.

Sorry but this is not about coaching. I will say it again and I have said it from day one with group - they do not play hard enough to be good. They are talented but their effort is lacking

I dont buy that yes the efforts been disappointing this game but most of the year its been there theyve played tough and hard on defnese the problem is the teams filled with alot of great athletes who arent great or smart basketball players..

We hardly have anyone who can shoot thats a problem

Fortune hit some shots, but Providence killed us on the offensive boards (I believe they have 14 or 15) and converted them into points.

They also have done just enough other small things to beat us.

Why so long get them revved up and play fast.

That's been a problem for St. John's for seem like ages.

Just a 5-point game now. Play defense.

Harrison almost cost us points. He was trying to look for contact and missed the layup. He was bailed out by Sampson tipping it in.

So u want to blame the players? Ok...well, who brought them here?

In sports, when teams underachieve, who gets fired? The GM and/or coach. And here, lavin is both.
