Providence, Fri., Dec. 20, 8p, FOX

I haven't read through the whole thread, but I can honestly say I was never worried, even when we were down by 16. Previous years I'd be hitting the scotch at that situation. If you saw the first half stats you knew prov couldn't keep it going for the whole game, previous years we would just pack it in.

The big differences are the way we play tough D and Rick. Now I'm sure there are going to be games against better teams when we fall behind big and can't dig ourselves out, but I also think Rick is going to keep on these guys and get them to play tough D for the full 40. When that happens watch out.

I slightly disagree about the overachieving part. I don't really think this is a team of guys who are playing up a level and that this is a "moneyball" NIL operation. They're guys with a strong pedigree who have shown they can compete with the best. Just because we aren't going to win games with a more finesse style doesn't mean that we're overachieving. If our identity is physicality, offensive rebounding, sturdy defense, than we'll be a top 15-20 team in the country because we're so talented and big.

But I completely agree with the bolded part. There will be a time when we aren't able to come back in a game since the other team simply has shooters that hits shots and/or, we can't keep up. We really need Scott/Wilcher/Luis to be more consistent shooters.
“Overachieving” connoted everyone maxing out defensive efforts to offset any collective O deficiencies. Obviously there is talent, size and physicality on this team and most teams don’t have a full package.

I see it as the opposite. Our "overachieving" in a game is shooting lights out from three. A teeny tiny red flag is that we went 14-24 from 3pt against Baylor and lost.

And , is Scott really a upgrade over Glenn Taylor ? So far ?
yes. He does so many little things that don't show up in the box score. He's fallen in love with the three a bit (maybe at coaches instruction given composition of the team), but I remember a good mid-range game, ability to drive and get to the rim and a postup game from last year. The kid is a winning ballplayer.

Perhaps “overachieving” is not best word choice on my part and should have stated a consistently aggressive D effort by all will come in handy until we demonstrate more offensive efficiency inclusive of better shooting, good shot selection and rotating ball. I obviously however think this is a Tourney team that with right matchups can do damage there.

I’m not sure if it’s my damn eyes or backed up by facts, but to me bludgeoning teams on the boards and with defense has made Houston a top team the last five years or so. It’s not pretty, but can be effective.

Wow! Surprised English would make a statement like that. See you on February 1 at MSG.
Comment was only thing they do WELL, not only thing they do, in reference to offensive rebounds and forcing turnovers. The stats bear that out. Offensive rebounding team ranks 12th, steals 27. As for 3 point shooting, 263rd of all Division 1 teams. So English just going by the stats. We score off forcing turnovers and offensive rebounding better than most teams.

“We know we got to work on it. We’re not going out there trying to miss shots,” Ejiofor said. “I think it was a little bit of jitters. Obviously, it’s our first road game in a rowdy environment. It was really loud. That’s something we have to work on.”

Really hope next year when they're crafting the schedule that they try to schedule an away game in the OOC for exactly this reason. The neutral court stuff is not close to the same thing. Work out these kinks in November.
Yes, especially since to my surprise we were effectively the home team in the Bahamas as our fans showed out that weekend.

You could see he was frustrated w his team not being able to avoid SJU domination on offensive boards & yield so many second chances, as well as succumbing to SJU D pressure.. That said, his choice of words about SJ’s strengths was dumb and locker room fodder when they come to CA as you suggested.

Looking through the box score again and see that Ayo grabbed one defensive rebound otherwise he would have “accomplished” an 8 trillion in this game

I guess Providence now being 2-6 in its last 8 games and just 7-6 overall also made their HC pissed as well in that interview.
