Providence, Fri., Dec. 20, 8p, FOX

They have said he has patella tendinitis. I’ll repeat it again. Ice ice ice to begin with. Some rest and then Maybe some taping and knee strengthening to help the patella tracking. Thats a good start to rehab it. A little free treatment plan for you if ever you have the issue.
You seem to know a little bit about this, Eric. :)

Yes Providence was outmanned.

Yes we wore them down

Winning at the Dunk not easy. Great fans, super engaged.

I remember Father Shanley coming here and saying he'd root like heck for the Red Storm - except when we played Providence. Pretty sure he'd take that back now.

No matter who your opponent it, pulling one out of the fire and winning a very close one away is an important step in building a winning culture.

Two observations: Scott half court defense was off the charts good. Active hands Active feet led to numerous positive defensive plays by the entire team. He is turning into a lock down defender. Need to improve significantly on the communication with the high ball screen wing pass and weak side help. The athleticism and talent is in place but verbal communication must be elevated by all parties.

Would love to be involved or privy to all their injuries and rehab and treatments they do lol. Of course I wouldn’t post about it due to hippa 🫣🫣.

That dixie cup of ice I’ve mentioned works so well for any joint or very specific area of pain or swelling. Only thing is just for 3-5 min constantly moving it to not just sit on the skin. And it will melt so get a towel. Do it many times a day.

At the end if the day I’ll take 11/26 at the FT line and a W rather than 24/26 and a loss. Plenty of work to do but much easier with that win.
And think of how providence fans feel. Their team couldn't put away a team that shot so poorly. It's all a matter of perspective. Our 2nd half rebounding and defense in the second half was enough for the difference.

And because of that he will continue to get big minutes
My concern with Scott is that the only offense he exhibits is taking threes. Last season he had a more well rounded game of going to the basket and a midrange game. Yes his defense has been very good but the last few games his shooting has been way off and going 1-7 against PC translates into too many wasted possessions.

This was a rock fight where we were behind most of the game, no different from UGA game except for 1 glaring difference. 6 turnovers last night.

You can shoot 45% from the FT line and 15% from 3 (may even be generous on those disgusting percentages), it won’t matter in most games if you win the turnover battle 6 to 17 and have 18 offensive boards vs 7. All those extra possessions matter!!

1) Got text from KR..not concerned
2)Scott needs to get to the Off Boards... they are trying to find his space in the half court sets
3)Dev is a beast..yes he's my guy but so proud of him
4)Got a text from a legit p5 kid(yes this early they are ALREADY thinking about portal)saying he noticed how Coach was livid up 30 v Depaul but calm down 20 v Prov. Said every coach he plsyrd for was opposite. Said he talks to his AAU boys all the time and SJ is viewed as legit destination going foward.
Wishing everyone a peaceful safe healthy New Year.

I felt great having the ball in Deivon's hands at the end of the game. We should see that more, regardless of who's on the court!

Scary to think what talent we'll get going forward, considering the talent we already have.

Always appreciate your insight!

On the plus side we found a way to win a road game in a place it's tough to win despite playing a subpar game. Credit the veteran experience on this team and another Pitino halftime speech. And most of all Zuby who is the engine of this team and the one indispensable player on it.

On the minus side it would be nice to play the first half for a change, hit some free throws and get Aaron Scott untracked from 3. Pitino won't do it (since he didn't do it in the DePaul game) but to me the main job in the Delaware game is to hunt open looks for Scott and get his confidence going. He's too good a shooter to be missing at this rate and we absolutely need that shooting in our arsenal.

Credit to Kadary and Wilcher for finding ways to contribute at less than 100% for Kadary and when his shot wasn't falling for Sim.

Great to see Smith finding ways to fit his game into the structure, he is tough as nails and fun to watch.

As for RJ, in the immortal words of Dennis Green, he is who we thought he was. Completely agree with Joedib that if he could bring himself to pass the ball instead of forcing everything it would be a quantum leap of improvement in his game but he is who he is.

Also credit to Joedib and Rocket for being the only sensible posters on the game thread and figured Providence wasn't gonna shoot 60% for the game and we would make it competitive in the second half.

Question for someone that was there: How much of the FT woes should be attributed to a ridiculously tough behind the basket student backdrop? and flashing lights? And how much was just ineptitude?
