Pre Season Predictions 2023

A bit much

Putting Pitino on any list right now earns clicks and likes. I'm dismissive of predictions until it gets real. Right now journalists and annoucers just trying to capitalize on the mega interest Rick is generating.

Now, if we beat Michigan and draw and beat Houston in Charleston, we can seriously consider the potential for post-season basketball. Lose both and we have work to do. Split and there's hope, especially if we beat Houston. Win both, and ticket sales will begin to take off.

I'm just excited about being excited again. The pre-season ride has been great, and buckled up and ready for highs and lows of the process.

I'm a glass half full guy but 10 &1 non conference is a little aggressive, we need to gel my prediction is 8&3 or 9&2 best case.... big east 11&9 and we're dancing!
Woah 8-3?! That’s a big hole to climb out of. Which 3 games do you see SJU dropping and why?

Just trying to set expectations, remember Dave I'm a fan for almost 50 years and I've seen alot we will not get out of Charleston unscathed and we gotta head to west Virginia I do believe 9&2 Is where we end up. Anything better ill be ecstatic!;)

I think we will know more after the Michigan game. In Charleston, both LSU and Dayton (picked to finish first in their league) will be a challenge for which a poor shooting game could do us in. I don’t see us getting past Houston, if we get to play them, as they are too big, physical and have tremendous athletes at every position. A 9-2 OOC record would be exceptional.

As an occasionally professional, but frequently amateurish motivational speaker/life coach/internet comic/forward thinking all around swell guy (the bevy of forward slashes proves that point), I of course have an opinion regarding expectations.

They are a byproduct of our conditioning. How many Duke fans, for example, are taking a “wait and see” approach? They will most likely be incorporating up to five freshmen in major roles and Scheyer is no Pitino. Yet they demand the final four.

I get as a fanbase we have been conditioned to either accept mediocrity (being kind) or are fearful of expecting more. Screw it. Wear your SJU gear and walk around like you are a proud fan of a bad arse program. And if some reporter wants to rank us higher than #25 and make us a final four dark horse, breathe it in. I rather cheer with hope, than with our prior hopelessness.

No more “”why us?” We change it to “why not us?”

We are…

Cant agree with you more kranmars. These seniors that came aboard this year came with the intention to win and win big this year. There is no next year for them at St. Johns. Pitino pieced together a nice squad filled with leadership, guys that can hit from outside, good free throw shooting (not counting on zuby there) and smartly brought along a couple of guards that know his system already.

We have to go 9-2 out of conference. I agree with Dave, 8-3 is a big hole to climb out of because it means one bad loss.

I'm a little worried about Monday night, a brand new team, first garden game against a big time program, I think Monday will tell us a lot about this team.

I disagree, never settle, even if you think "oh but they need time to gel.", you always push the envelope and try to get alittle more then you think is ok. The guy with experienced looked very good, i'm thinking Luis will be big when returning for depth. I admit i don't have much patience anymore. Hoping SJU kills it from the beginning with out seniors or grad transfers leading the way.

I so amped for Monday.

Soriano, Dingle, Jenkins and crew would have it no other way. It's showtime baby, lights, camera, action. They'll Put on a smile and enjoy the shit out of this moment.
They're a family and they're all in this together.

Lets watch them put on one hell of a freaking show this year.

I agree with you 100% on Monday night. I definitely would’ve liked them to have played a couple of more cupcakes before this game with so many new guys. Maybe I’m just a beaten down Johnnies fan , and I know it’s the dawning of new day with RP, but I am very worried about Monday night.

hoping our bench can match theirs, I'm not worried about the starters.

Hope our youngsters can enjoy the moment, their first MSG game. Just forget that it's in msg and focus on playing the same game you played since you were alittle kid.

No pressure at all, just enjoy your first game in MSG.

I’m confident in downgrading my expectation at this point. 7-4 OOC and 7th or 8th place finish in Big East. Providence easily leapfrogs us and one of Xavier or Butler…maybe both.

Maybe they catch fire in the BET like Gtown a few years ago.

Agree with your sentiment on lowering the bar. The team has many deficiencies.

But you are too negative. I think your baseline is the floor, albeit a realistic one

If Butler ends up ahead of St John’s then that’s an issue but after Butler got destroyed by a not so great Mich state team who lost to James Madison, that’s not likely.
