(POST GAME) St. Peter’s, Wed., Nov. 25, 7p, FS2 / 970 AM WNYM

I think it does. But that doesn’t translate to everyone playing or playing equally.

How many put backs did we have. ? How many times were we blocked on shots inside . I saw toro put in one chance down low . We have got to get p[oints down low !!!!!
What do you guys think was up with the vets? Dunn, Gwill and Duke led this team last year. They just let these new kids come in and take the reigns??

Something was off w/ our vets.
Something like more talent came in and they been getting outplayed at practice and it showed up in the game today. I'm not going to lie I was one of Dunn's biggest defenders when people kept putting Posh over him in lineups, I'm eating crow on that, because there a big talent gap, Dunn's starting days are numbered if not already over. Even in Dunn's best game last year, I don't ever remember him being that disruptive on the defensive end and just having such much control over the offense. I now see why Jordan Riley's dad thought his son would have no chance to play PG here, Posh has got it locked up for the next 4 (Maybe 5) years.

I ultimately see this team ending up being a 9 man rotation once the dust settles.

Starters
Posh
Williams
Cole
Champ
Moore

Bench
Dunn
Wusu
Earlington
Toro

I know tonight was rough, but man once Posh, Cole, and Moore put it together to go along with Champagnie, the future looks good.

We have a segment of our fan base who are set really high expectations, and then set themselves up for disappointment when we have games like today. From "we're gonna blow them out!", to "this team absolutely sucks!". We have some talent, but we will have lots of ups and downs this season. Like you, I'll try to maintain an even keel throughout the year. If we improve from last year I'll be satisfied. If we make the NIT I'll be happy. If we Dance I'll be ecstatic.
The problem was the defense, and since we can't simply overwhelm the opposition with overall talent, then we're gonna have to dig deep and play harder and smarter on the defensive end.
Agreed Dink, but another reason the defensive performance was so disturbing is that we need our defense to generate some offense for us because we don’t have enough consistent shooters to score enough points in just our half court offense. We need those easy baskets generated by our pressure defense. If we don’t get that on a consistent basis we will have more games like tonight and that does not bode well for us.
Anyone notice posh double dribbled on the Cole game wining 3 play and the refs missed it:woohoo:
St. Peter's also got two points when they were not called for a clear backcourt violation. Ref said our guy touched it, which he did, but it still landed in the hands of an SPU player in the frontcourt, who then went to the backcourt with it.

The non-double dribble had the effect of a makeup call (although we did wind up +1 on it, which was the final margin).

It’s easy to get swept away one way or the other in the moment. So maybe I’m feeling too negative right now. However, right now I would say, the idiot light just went on the dashboard of my car. I can keep driving but I’ve been warned. Defense is mostly about effort, hustle and will. Outside of a player (say Posh) or two we looked soft. That’s on Coach MA right now. Him and his assistants need to start demanding it or change from the 2-3 they were playing most of the game as it wasn’t effective.

Agree with all except Dunn still ahead of Williams at the SG spot. We are kinda without a legit SG and it’s gonna hurt us season, as that’s a big scoring position. Cole is a pure wing aka Preston Shumpert, and not a SG. Williams has never stepped it up except a few games in his career. It’s totally disappointing and at this point I don’t think it will happen.

I also think down the stretch, cma will have this team playing much tighter overall and getting the most out of our depth. We just didn’t come out nearly as defensively cohesive and disruptive as I thought we would.

40 minutes of hell is long gone. It's been gone for years. Arkansas fans have said it. Even CMA has said it. Cute story, cute phrase like Lavin and his 94 feet of heat. That doesnt hold up in the game today.

If McGriff can ever get healthy, he would be 10.

I don't think you can play the way Anderson wants to, and only go 9 or 10 deep. The guys are going to need some rest. You just have to try and hide the ones who aren't performing as well. Unfortunately, that became harder to do tonight, once Posh got his 3rd foul. That's really when we started struggling offensively.

Actually, 39 min and 43 seconds, LOL!!

Hats off to St. Peter's, Holloway has them playing hard.
Posh and Cole are keepers, but its the same old same old that will keep us out of the top half of the Big East.

McGriff is healthy isn't he? He was dressed out for this game, and he played in the Red/White scrimmage. He played a lot in the scrimmage actually and only made 1 shot and didn't do anything else of note.

Greg is a great kid and athlete, but he needs to show the “breakout season” fans talk about in his third year. Time to step up and distinguish himself as a key, reliable main cog v a rotational guy with occasional flashes. He seems to have skill to do that, but to me jury is still out.

I chalk this game up to 2020 and the COVID effect. Better conditioning and more practice together will yield a better result.

Right now we are the equivalent of a decent mid major team. Same as St Pete's. Of course it's one game and we didn't have Champ. We'll get better, but so will most teams. Think we found some good things tonight: Cole, Posh and Moore (offense) to name 3. Not sure why CMA played Wusu so much. Thought Earl should have been in for last 5 minutes of game. Of newcomers, wasn't impressed with Toro. Very early, but we did about what I expected; pulled out a win against an evenly matched team.
Re: Wusu who did you want to see in there. I think you probably wanted Dunn but he was clearly hurt and not coming back in. Some could argue Wusu deserved to be out there if Dunn wasn't hurt. Lord know the others didn't.
Thought Earl should have been in, mostly because of experience, but probably wouldn't have made much of a difference. Earl was playing like crap anyways.
