Posh was great, and always give him the benefit of the doubt given his incredible non-stop effort levels, but he also made some bonehead fouls and sloppy turnovers that killed us.ghostzapper post=454573 said:

This is one of the most frustrating things about this season. If Champ played anywhere close to how he played last year, or even just played decently in all these games, we would probably have 3-4 more wins and be in really good shape right now. Having the person you expected to be your best player and to carry a big role on the team be consistently terrible is tough to overcome.gman post=454580 said:

I don't see problems with his system or, for the most part, his coaching (just about every coach will have some things that you question). The big concern is his recruiting. We just don't have a talented enough roster, especially shooters. The offense gets plenty of good looks, and our players don't hit the shots.otis post=454595 said:

- CA was fun last night- good job promoting the game and getting people to attend. By the looks of it- seemed the first two tiers were full and the 3rd tier was about 50-60% full.
- I sat in sec 9, couple rows up from the Prov bench... man- did not expect that many Providence fans. Though this section was season ticket holders. I know everyone has a price.... but think there should be a 5x threshold before you sell your tickets to opposing fans... was disappointed in that.
- Seeing Providence coaches/players up close.... they have a Team. I can see why they have kept so many older players- seemed like a very family-oriented environment. Would have no problem my kid playing for Cooley- he atleast exudes a perception that he cares/listens/encourages his guys. They got a good mix of 7-8 guys who can all contribute well. (not saying CMA doesn't- was just close to the Prov bench)
- 25k halfcourt shot.... wtf SJU.... ? this is in no way a sexist comment, but you need to put people out there that can actually get the ball to the basket.... get a pool of three... test them out in Taffner, and choose the best ones..... unless the University didnt even want the risk of someone making it... Terribly disappointing.

I'm gonna blame us and the BE coaches for ranking us 4th, picking Champ and Posh on the All-BE teams.... encouraging us fans to have actual expectations of this group... smh lol. This group is more a collection of individual talents than TEAM. Every 4/5 games, we'll click.... but most times we are tripping over ourselves. Each time we seemed to have some Momentum....we made one or a series of bonehead plays/turnovers....

All the negatives from last night about not winning a winnable game, it was a fun atmosphere last night at CA. I enjoyed being shoulder to shoulder again with fans glued to my backless seat because concession stand and bathroom lines are long at halftime.

When you have a well-established system and players who are long familiar with it, it dramatically improves your chances of playing the way Providence plays.
We aren't there yet.

If that is the case then you should have been arguing to KEEP Steve Lavin after just 5 years and 4 post-season appearances including 2 NCAA bids. You don't get to conveniently say "He needs more time..." when you never accorded the same thing for others. This is why your posts are nonsense. Providence was a good opponent to judge the success or failure of this season. While there are still a good number of games to be played last nights loss appears to end the season. Prior to the season Prov and SJU were considered two teams pretty close in expectations. Today Prov is competing for a four seed and two possible NCAA wins the first weekend and SJU is finishing out another wasted season.
One reason is the two shooters brought in to provide an outside threat did not materialize but the two glaring disappointments is the potential big east player of the year could not perform as hoped and the team and coaching staff could not perform at crunch time.
Prov won close games vs Wisc, Texas Tech, Xav, Conn and SH. SJU lost to Ind, Pitt, Conn and SH in the final minute. Now it is up to Cragg to figure out what to do. Don’t be fooled when SJU beats Vill or some other good team next week when all the pressure has been lifted. Judge it on these past games when the SJU team looks rudderless in all close game endings.

Teams that historically have been bad free throw shooting teams have been freak athletic teams whose Achilles heel was their FT shooting.
