I am still shocked we were made the favorite in this game.
Oddsmakers shoulda listened to me: PC 4-5 point fav. I hope they lost thier shirts tonight. I bet Johnnies +2 and Auburn -1.5 in a teaser. Stupid me, again!

I'm a pessimist by nature and almost always with STJ.

But even I'm surprised at how my worst nightmares coming into this season are coming true.

Despite the lack of execution at the end of the game as per normal with this team there were plenty of other little things that shouldn't happen that do all the time.

The turnover on the BLOB play with 6 seconds left in the half that ended up as 3 FTs for Providence. Coming out of a timeout down 6 Providence runs 20 seconds of offense which results in an easy layup for them, we follow that by coming down, making two passes and Stanley shoots a 15 foot long 2 from the corner with 22 on the shot clock. It's February, how is that shot selection stuff not fixed by now.

This was a winnable game.

We did a nice job batting back and getting the lead but couldn’t get it done in crunch time. This has been a common theme this season.

Maybe instead of benching him completely, we'll shift him to small forward when King gets here.

Some interesting stats:
FG Providence, 25-55 (45.5%); SJU 35-71 (49.3%).
3-PT 9-21 (42.9%); 8-24 (33.3%).
FT 27-33 (81.8%); 4-11 (36.4%).
REB 35; 37.
ASST 13; 22.

The bright side was Providence +2.5 was the easiest money I've ever made in my life.

The not so bright side is this program sucks and is going no where under this coach. But we just gave him an extension so the school which makes 50k a year per student can't afford to buy him out, and hire a competent coach.

Gotta change something up. Sit Champagnie. Have him be on 2nd unit with Wusu. Start Nyiwe. Get him some minutes. This season is done. Time to start building something for next year.

Memo to self. I'm a fucking idiot for turning on the game after the Peru-Ecuador game ended. Hello Ambien my good friend  !!!!

maybe or maybe not. What we are seeing on the court is clearly not working. So time to look forward. Champ coming off the bench may take some pressure off. the reality is, aside from Posh and Wheeler right now, no one else you can really trust.

I'd start him at center the rest of the season. At least he'd have mismatches there while on offense. He's overthinking the NBA. Time to get back to the most basic basics for him.

It's not like it would be a worse move than having Nyiwe in at the end of a tight game.

Nyiwe was too immature to have in there at the end. But now that this season is lost, Time to give him a bit more responsibility to get ready for next year.

Also, I hate the full on press with this team. We give up wayyy too many open looks on the other end. We are constantly behind the push to front court and scrambling to defend. We pay for it more than we gain. I think we soft press and aim to trap at half court. Even posh pressuring in one on one is effective. The plus minus  with decent point guards is like minus 10. And that’s pretty much the big east.

You just made me think of something. Champ said that he wanted to play the wing more and less in the paint this year.  But, maybe being match up against 4s and 5s gave him a mobility advantage that he took advantage of.  Now, when a 3 is guarding him, he no longer is quicker than the defender.  He's facing more athletic dynamic defenders.  That takes away his drives to counter when they played him tight on the three point arc. It also has a way of getting in your head, making you feel like you have to get the shot off quicker than you may really need to which impacts even open looks.  I don't think its pressure for the NBA.  But, it could be less favorable matchups.

Good Post.

I am really impressed by Wheeler shooting the 3 in Big East play.

I really don't get this talk about giving certain kids more PT in anticipation of them being back next season. Reality is, at this point we have no clue who will and who won't be back next season.
