(POST-GAME) Providence (MSG), Sat. Feb. 9, Noon, CBS SN, 570AM
I love this board. When we play great against Marquette, everyone is in love with this team. Then we lay an egg against Providence and, all of a sudden, we're terrible, we suck, etc.

Like my golf game, this team is consistently inconsistent. We laid an egg today, pure and simple. No energy, poor effort. No excuses. Apparently, we don't have any leaders that can push the button to get these guys to play. Maybe they need to have a players only meeting before every game.

The one shining light was the play of Roberts. He played with energy and enthusiasm and made a nice contribution. I only wish that he and Williams had been given more playing time during the non conference schedule so that they would be better prepared to contribute during the league season.

This is clearly a Jekyll and Hyde team. It wouldn't shock me at all if we came out flying Tuesday night against Butler at CA.
Agree with this. I would add that this is a team where matchups are a very big deal. Teams that are about the perimeter offensively, like Creighton and Marquette, fit us well. Providence, and DePaul, although inferior, are built to exploit our biggest weakness. This is not a complete team,’or a deep one, I don’t see any huge winning or losing streaks coming. I think what we see is what we get.

Cooley took Mullin's lunch money again. Very poorly coached game.

Making today even more frustrating, Butler beat GTown. We could have had third place all to ourselves with a winning record.

Again, maddening.

This team played like it has never seen a zone defense on offense, and like a fifth grade girls team rebounding the ball on defense.
Ill prepared. Ill motivated.
In another post, I mentioned that Mullin needs to go Bobby Knight on this team. Open up the gym at 2 am tomorrow morning. Run them to death. If they don’t want to expend effort during the game, maybe they will at practice.
And while we’re at it, the AD can gather Mullin and the staff in an office and explain how this lack of effort will not be tolerated!
Under no circumstance should the AD EVER intervene with the coach in regards to effort, coaching strategy, etc.....
Agree concerning strategy. Disagree regarding effort. That is directly on this staff. For some reason the team was not motivated to play Div 1 basketball today. Something that we have seen before. The AD is the boss. If a subordinate is not performing, it is within his right to seek remedial remedies. And if that doesn’t occur, the AD will make a change.
Once again, we had a timeout with an assistant coach doing all of the talking. Is this acceptable?
And how would you like this conversation to go?

Cragg: "Hey Chris, we're going to need to have your kids try just a little bit harder next time. If they could do that, that would be great."

End of conversation?

Plain and simple, an effing disgrace. This team is not very good. One horse pony if he's on and not throwing up BS shots. Heron being out not the issue. No urgency today. Agree that the only effort given by Roberts. Have to wonder how he hasn't gotten more time. Big step back for any NCAA chances. Ridiculously inconsistent team.

How about: Hey Chris you don't have what it takes to be a successful coach. Do us all a favor and resign!

We have to make shots, in order for us to set up everything else we do. Our offense fuels our other parts of the game.

When we are not making shots, we get games like this.
I am not calling myself a visionary by any means but I knew we were losing this game today. In my opinion Mullin is running a country club and that culture needs to change immediately. This is coaching and nothing more, and it kills me to sat that!
Plays NBA style and from what I have heard treats them like pro's also. Maybe that doesn't work at the college level and you need to treat them like college kids which is what they are. Who knows? Might be OK to try to always remain on an even keel but maybe then you need at least one team leading rah rah guy to get the team jacked up when they take the court or at least in the moments where it is needed.

Maybe this team doesn't like playing on the weekend. They have lost to Seton Hall, Butler, Georgetown and now Providence on weekends. Georgetown on the road is the only weekend game they have won in conference and that took OT,

Everyone here knew that Seton Hall game would come back to bite us. The way this is shaking out , it will probably be the difference in the end for us not making the Tournament
Simon and Clark please show up Tuesday
Clark's shot has totally disappeared. I don't know what he can do differently, other then the shots going in. I don't think he's taken many bad ones (in fact, I thought he passed up some good looks today, which is disturbing), so I don't know what to tell him.

Simon's first half the other night was probably a fluke, unfortunately. More unfortunate, is that we do not have a capable replacement.

So how many hours before Braziller claims we lost this game because of our OOC schedule?

They think they are better than they are and don't respect all opponents.

Yea, Simon and Clark not Simon and Garfunkel
They think they are better than they are and don't respect all opponents.
Bingo!!! How many bad losses will it take before they realize this?

Are we sure we want to play all of our home games at the Garden? We’re 1-2there this year, with our one win being against Princeton

Firing is a sort of "intervention"

The refs were not the reason we lost, if they had actually let the teams play we might have lost by more. But they totally ruined thIs game. The second half was just whistle after whistle no flow, no basketball. They are the most consistent thing I have seen this year, they are awful every game.
