Anyone who isn't somewhat concerned after watching the last 3 games isn't paying attention.
I do really like what I've seen from Wusu and Soriano and for the.most part Smith and Mathis. Champ is clearly pressing and Posh not completely healthy. Coburn and Wheeler big disappointments right now and if one of those 2 guys doesnt play better we will be no better than mid pack BE team.

If I had to go with one, feeling Coburn will do more for us over course of season than Wheeler. Down on Wheeler contributing more than his career 4 & 4.

Making plays you’re convinced I have it out for you, I dont. It’s just a discussion. Read my response again as If you believe I’m asking sincerely. I think sju is better than those teams, nothing we’ve done has really showed that.

And fwiw, you saying “really???” Is kinda like saying that’s crazy, is it not?

Who said they were not concerned?  This team has a long way to go.  Even the coaching staff is saying that.  If they don't improve on a lot of things, they are not going to accomplish their goal of making NCAA tournament this year.

I  think there's a balance though, you can be concerned without being doom and gloom.  I think most reasonable people realize it's November, nobody's season is made or broken in November.  We see teams have horrible non-conference losses every single year and then go on a run in conference and make the tournament.  And we've seen the opposite a team absolute kill it in non-conference and lay an egg in conference and miss the tournament.  You really don't know how good or bad your team is truly going to be until January.

I am going to believe that this team just wasnt focused and didnt give a crap about the last 3 games.  And we are going to see an effort like we saw against Indiana minus the bad start.  They will be ready to go fro the tip and will play a very competitive game with the home crowd behind them.

Ive decided i am not taking much from these last 3 games.

You may well be right on Wheeler RSNC, certainly most on the board agree. Maybe he is my Vince Cole for this year, but I've seen glimpses of the kind of ability I think can help this team in Big East play. He can rebound, defend and and pass; if he'd just concentrate on those and forget about scoring he can help us imho. If he doesnt help us against Kansas I'll start to doubt my view.

I don't think you have it out for me at all.  I enjoy your posts for the most part and the back and forths.  I like a good debate.  If I respond to you, that means I value what you're saying, because there's a few I simply ignore.

As far as the word crazy, I have a family member that has dealt with mental illness, so I try to avoid using that word to describe someone, because I know that's a trigger for them being called that, and I don't know what anyone on here is dealing with so I don't want to offend anyone.

NC one big difference between Cole and Wheeler is that Cole had never played at this level before he arrived, and Wheeler has. So we have something to go on with Wheeler, and he didn't do much during his 3 years at Purdue. So I'm still at a loss as to why the expectations where so lofty. As for Champ, I see it more as his not being able to score in the flow of the offense, as he did a lot last year, because our offense doesn't have much flow. I hope that if and when  our offense starts to click, we'll see Champ much more at ease and much more productive.

I think I've jumped off the Wheeler bandwagon.  I feel silly now arguing with Purdue fans on twitter defending him, they tried to warn us nicely.  He's the classic guy that looks the part and looks good in practice, but it just doesn't translate in the game.

I mean look at the competition ahead of him.... He's got a guy coming over from a mid-major, an unranked freshman, and a transfer that's his first year in D1, and he's a 4th year player coming from a high major he should be heads and shoulders above all of them, and he's arguably put himself behind all of them 6 games in.  He had 2 turnovers in 6 minutes against NJIT.

Agree with Making Plays that you can't assess this team until we get half a dozen games against real competition.

Maybe its6the injury but last season Posh reminded me of Sonic the Hedgehog,  playing the game at a much higher speed than everyone else.   Has he put on weight. Or lost a step?

Agree with mase.  A win is a win so long as you don't crow about beating NJIT the way NR would have done.

So I guess I should be honored that you chose to not ignore me, and instead decided to call one of my comments  "stupid"? I'll take that to mean that you don't have anyone in your family who's stupid /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

Just remembering we actually lost to NJIT in 2015. Mullin's first year. 20 points for Mussini that night

Posh said, "We came out lazy.  And warmed up the same way."

And there you have it folks.  These kids just did not give a crap about the last 3 games.  St Johns did these kids a disservice by not scheduling tougher comp these last 3 games.  These kids dont want to play these games.  They want to be challenged and play in big time basketball games.

Hopefully the university has learned its lesson and stops this crap moving forward.

Not to mention how it’s going to negatively affect recruiting. Like you said Duke, kids want to play in big games.

I miss Federico running around the court.

MP I'm generally a positive and half full guy.  But watching other BE teams I’m concerned about the lack of cohesion and lack of leadership by our best player.   Also, few of the new guys have far underperformed.
I've watched every BE team play this year at least twice.  St. John's is easily better than Georgetown, DePaul, Butler, Creighton, and Providence.  Creighton is getting spanked right now by SIU Edwardsville.

I'd say UConn, Marquette, and Villanova are you top 3 right now.

Seton Hall, St. John's, Xavier are all in that next tier.  Seton Hall just barely avoided what would have been a terrible loss against a really bad Cal team.  Cal has been competing for worst P6 school for the last few years.

Xavier is much better than you are portraying , they’ve played well and without Zack Fremantle. Seton Hall is very good also. Just by early season eye test we are not better than either of those teams. Seton Hall beat Michigan at Michigan!

LOL, I don't remember calling you stupid... but like I said I said... I TRY not to do that, because I don't know what people are dealing with in real life and no sports argument is that serious.  But, I have to be honest, I don't like losing an argument :).

And no I don't ignore your posts at all, you make good points SOMETIMES :p

Monte you've been consistent in your view of Wheeler and look to be correct at this point. But like a racehorse I've bet that continues to come up short at long odds I just have a feeling he'll get better at some point lol. There is clearly talent there.

Right now,  we could lose to anyone in the conference. Fortunately, we will get better. We have to. We can't get much worse. What does concern me the most is Posh.  He must have hit the deck hard 5 or 6 times. We need him for 30 minutes a game to win. No way around that.

Trust me NC, I take no satisfaction in being right in situations like this. And, FWIW, I do think he and some other kids just need to have more defined roles and we'll see their production improve, and we'll also see the team become a more cohesive unit.

I'm not downplaying those 2 at all, they are good.  I think both are better than St. John's right now.  I was saying they were in the next tier after the top 3, I just don't think Providence and Creighton is.  Now Providence is much closer than Creighton IMO, but I still like Johnnies on a neutral court against both of them from what I've seen.   Marquette is the team that has impressed me the most so far.  They have 2 really good wins in Illinois and WVU.

And I didn't mean to make it seem like any of the teams were bad teams, Big East is going to be REALLY good this year.   There's really only 1 bad team in Georgetown.

My personal rankings right now would be...

1. Nova
2. UConn
3. Marquette
4. Xavier
5. Seton Hall
6. St. John's
7. Providence
8. Creighton
9. DePaul
10. Butler

11. Georgetown :p
