I know people probably don't want to hear this, but a win is a win, it's all about survive and advance.  One thing I'm encouraged by is this team handles adversity well.  I've seen lesser teams fold when the pressure mounts on them.  It doesn't matter how much they get down by they are always in the game.  Even though it was sloppy I seen some positive things, Nyiwe is going to be a contributor, Wusu looks to be back to his form from last season, and even if Champ struggles we have other guys like Mathis, Smith, Posh, and Soriano that can carry the scoring load.

Also, just been watching a lot of college basketball these past few days, and no team is safe right now early in the season with most teams having a bunch of new pieces and figuring it out.  #4 Kansas loses to a very bad Dayton team with 12 freshmen.  #10 Alabama losses to Iona, #16 St.Bonaventure just lost to a 1-3 Northern Iowa team, and Cincinnati who just beat #14 Illionis just dropped to Monmouth.

Moving forward Kansas, Monmouth, and Colgate should all be very good games against quality NCAA caliber teams.

Good to know we have a crisis counselor here.

No way to spin it, at this point in the season this St. John’s team is not playing well.

Making Plays, all due respect, but if you look at the OOC schedules of all the teams you just mentioned , we can’t even shine their shoes with our putrid schedule. All those teams can survive losses such as those because they already have at least two quad 1 wins in their pockets. We, on the other hand, CANNOT afford to lose any of these games because we don’t have any high quality wins or even games to offset a loss like that. These other teams do.

MP I'm generally a positive and half full guy.  But watching other BE teams I’m concerned about the lack of cohesion and lack of leadership by our best player.   Also, few of the new guys have far underperformed.

Guys while very fair to criticize CMA for what we've seen so far (I agree he's got some things to fix), it's a tad early to be calling for the head of reigning Big East Coach of the Year (Jesus, Mary and Joseph as Sister Mary Panic used to say).
Agreed. Besides, the administration is committed to CMA for the long haul.

We need more Anthony Glover types. He came to play and gave 150% every single game.

I'd buy  Zach a drink if he would ask CMA again about the OOC schedule.

I get that, but I thought this team the the best that sju had in years? Better players then last year's guys, but we blow a 16pnt lead in the 2nd half, and njit forces ot? Just wow.

They better be at least 4 inches taller than the real Glover was/is.

We are playing like garbage.  We don’t look good.  Not sure what the solution is but we gotta get better soon.  Big games coming up and no more softies.

Id love for someone to ask him why he keeps running the end of game "just stand there and dribble till there is 7 seconds left then put your head down and head to the hoop eventually dribbling it off your foot" play.  It hasnt worked for 3 years.  How about moving the ball around and start heading the the hoop with around 10 seconds left?

Not pretty. Have time to prepare for Kansas. Wheeler not playing well. Mathis is very ineffective in half court offense. Provides limited court spacing and is not a strong passer. 3pt rebounding is really weak. Shots will fall for Julian. All players allowing way to much dribble penetration.

The only positive suprise I took was Nyiwe's lateral movement / quick enough vertical hops on the defensive end.
He should be part of the regular roation. We'll need him defensively.

Oh, and he's got learn how to dunk.

His offensive game is extremely limited. When he is on the  court we are playing man down

My point was even top 10 teams right now with projected first round picks are still figuring things out.  I know most fans usually only watch their team, so they don't know think good teams struggle early in the season, when in fact there's literally multiple high majors that are good teams losing to mid-majors every single day college basketball games are on.

As far as Q1 opportunties.  There will be plenty of those in conference.  I posted in another thread that if NET is close to KenPom's rankings, which it normally is, they'll have at least 11 Q1 games remaining on the schedule including the Kansas game and not including potential Q1 games in the Big East tournament.  It's not like they are in the WCC or Mountain West where there's only 1 or 2 teams in the conference that's a quality win.  Most bracketologist right now have 5-7 BE teams in the field.  St.John's is projected in most fields despite their non-conference schedule.

Coach said Pinzon will resume shooting next week.  Probably wont be ready for Kansas but would love for him to get a few OOC games under his belt to work the rust off before conference play.

With all this talk about OOC schedule, which we cant change, the fact remains if we go 9-2 OOC and 12-8 in BE we will dance and it wont even be close. Whether or not we will do that is certainly debatable, but it is something team can control so let's focus on winning those games

An NCAA invite will require a top 3 or 4 conference finish. One thing we have seen is that CMA's system takes a while to click. I think we have some solid additions. Not great, but solid. What I see is so far is Champ struggling with his shot, and his confidence. He passed up some open threes and doesn't strike me as the kind of player that can put a bunch of misses behind him. He is a quality player that I believe will come around, as soon as he stops thinking about the NBA. Just a guess, but something is making him press.

The team just isn't in synch. Half court offense is awful because spacing is awful. Way too careless with the ball.  We would all like to see February form in November, but the team isn't even in November form. CMA  is patient and is playing the long game. so far, 2 close calls  I think things will work out.
