Andrew you and MJM should consider yourselves lucky. I'll be 70 this summer so my time to see (and be able to appreciate) an NCAA win is really running short and it doesn't look like I can rely on the Knicks for any relief either. I'd go to a couple of Davidson games down here as they're leading the A10, but I'm afraid I'd jinx them!

I wasn't able to go to today's game, but I have to say this is the first time during my time as a fan (going back to Lavin year 2) where I've felt so indifferent about a loss. I do not believe this year's team has a chance to go anywhere and the same is true for CMA's future tenure, and it's difficult to care about losing when I don't believe in what CMA is "building" here. Even during Lavin year 5 and Mullin year 4, despite their lackluster in-game coaching and diminishing recruiting, I was still rooting hard through their final games.

Also, I've seen some talk about how we might make the NIT (in a demeaning way). Right now we are absolutely nowhere close to the NIT, and we'd likely need 9 Big East wins just to make that.

I'll be 52 the day of our MSG Nova game and I wonder the same exact thing

Mike, I'll be  72 this year. What are my chances?

About the same as mine. Not good because in 20 years when you are 92 and I'm your age we will be probably still wondering the same thing. :)

We should be renamed the Bunnies as an ode to all the bunnies that Wusu, Mathis and Posh missed. Our defensive rebounding is poor - we ranked worse than #300 nationally in that category. Part of the reason for that is that we play helter skelter defense, switching all the time, which creates bad mismatches. Very often our big guys are on the perimeter trying to defend against smaller guys who blow by them with ease and our little guys often get caught inside trying to defend against their bigs, another losing proposition. Either way, the guys who should be inside rebounding are out of position and can't do so. I haven't done the stats but my perception is that we have committed far more fouls during the season than our opponents, another inherent problem with our defensive system.

Champ is by all accounts, a great kid and a good college player. However, he was a non factor once again today. If he scores his 20 points, we win handily. If he truly is an NBA prospect, he should be able to create his own shot but he rarely does. He is a good catch and shoot guy but that's not enough to make an NBA roster. His on ball defense has improved marginally and, again, is not good enough to play in the NBA IMO.

I love St John's. They were kind enough to give me 2 degrees. I will watch every game and root for our kids all the time but the high expectations and hopes that I had for this season are gone. We're going nowhere fast and I have come to grips with that.

School has to be seriously thinking about a coaching change. If not we are doomed
we have to stop looking at champ as a next level play who would have carried this team
pernaps if not a change we should look at aDiv 2 confr
i would make a change then put an offer to Pitino,he probably would not take this job
then start looking foe a coach with are ord of bringing in a coach that can get us high ranked players
Otherwise be satisfied the way things are and just enjoy the game for the love of basketball

I wanted them to hire Pitino but that ship has sailed. To buy out his contract sju would have to pay Iona 5 million . That ain't happening. Iona is Pitino's last job. Watch them in the NCAA tournament this year. Then dream of what could have been

When CMA was hired we hear about his vaunted “40 minutes of hell” by which his team plays a fast paced end to end defense and uptempo offense.

Watching this season I rarely see a pressure full court press.  Given the supposed depth of his roster I expected to see more “in your face” pressing.  When the StJ’s dream does press it typically falls back after the opposing team successfully inbounds the ball.

I would describe CMA’s offense as unstructured and  “hurried”.  On offense If the StJ’s team does not beat the opposing team down the floor they seemingly run an unstructured offense merely passing the ball around the perimeter in hopes of an open shot;  as the shot clock winds down someone chucks the ball up and hopes.

I am not impressed by the “40 minutes of hell” offense or defense.

Unrelated: I believe SH’s Coach Willard is a very good coach.

Otis, CMA relies heavily on a frenetic pace, keyed by defensive stops, in order for his "system" to work. He simply does not have the horses to play pressure D and turn the ball over, so that he can play uptempo offense. It's one thing to play uptempo off the other team's misses and TOs, it's a whole other thing to play uptempo when taking that ball out. There is no question at this point that last year's roster was much more suited to play at that frenetic pace.
To be fair 40 minutes of hell was watching this and the Creighton game
Im no math wiz, but I believe that's 80 minutes of hell. lol

20 years of hell!

The NBA looks for athleticism and explosiveness.  Champy possesses neither.  Who cares if he can shoot.  They can all shoot nowadays.  Champy is not getting drafted.

I would take Josh Roberts over Joel Soriano, Isaiah Moore over Aaron Wheeler and  Earlington over any guy in our present front court.  I’d take Williams over Mathis although I’m surprised at how much Williams is struggling this year.  I’d take Dunn over Smith and yes, I’d take  my least favorite player, Vince Cole, over Coburn.  Can’t think of one upgrade we’ve made

Coach refuses to put shooters on the court.  He just wants to win games via defense.  That doesnt work anymore.

the fact that he didnt give Coburn real minutes in the second half should get him fired before he leaves MSG today.
Coburn has his limitations as well but agreed he provides something that Wusu and Mathis don't. Wonder if Coburn is considering stepping away from the team with his academics consuming so much time and energy. What's the point of adding all of the demands of being on the basketball team on top of the pre-med work to get 4 minutes per game on the 10th place team in the Big East
Free education while he is on the team. But, you’re point is well taken re:lack of PT

Well the good news is I don’t think we’ll have to hear about CMA’s streak of winning seasons after this year.  Sheesh!
The only people mentioning it are the three or four guys here who keep posting a variation of this post.

I confess that I was among those that thought that we had upgraded the roster. But, revised my thinking 3-4 games ago. Last years team was tougher and would have won this game today.

.
Can we stop with the fallacy of 40 Minutes of Hell?  When CMA was hired man Hog fans who came on here said it wasn't the case for years.  The game has evolved since the 90's and it can't sustain like it did back in the day.

It was coach and staffs responsibility tour grade our talent and get us to the NCAAs this yr they failed talk of replacement is in order unless he can deliver a miracle

Just for reference attendance for this game during Mullin year 4 was almost 100% capacity (18.5K). I believe Cragg made tickets easier to get back then (maybe even gave some away for free that year?), but obviously a massive difference.

Attendance sucks but who can blame anyone.  But also that game you are referencing was a late night Saturday night game and not after years of Covid.

Next 3 SHU, Nova and PC. If they want to make anything of this season they need to get 2 out of 3. Steal 1 between SHU and Nova on road and beat PC at home.
