What's a better price than free?

Going to get killed on the boards against good teams and our style will lead to getting really blown out on occasion.
With that being said is a really fun style of play. Probably most fun since Elite 8 team.
When Anderson gets some athletes and quality depth we are going to be a dangerous team.
I thought we rebounded pretty well and a ton better than Mullin teams. We seem to value rebounds more. Steere should help that as well.
+1 against Mercer
And if Dunn does become eligible, Heron and LJ will be the starting forwards
Steere and Roberts will probably rotate

I can see some combination of LJ, Heron and 3 of Rutherford, Roberts, Champagnie, Steere & Dunn starting from time to time. I'd like to see Heron consistently starting at off guard as opposed to being asked to play up front this year. We'll see. Can't wait to watch this team develop over the course of the year.

Anyone know what they charge students for tickets? I know years ago student tickets were discounted and pretty reasonable. The biggest problem years ago was I lived 20 minutes from school and had to come back to campus for games.

I would have thought that student housing would have increased attendance. I have a hard time believing that all the students are hitting the books on a Wednesday in November. :p
I had no idea what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised last night. I realize this was an inferior opponent but some things can’t be ignored. The ball movement was excellent. I thought shot selection was good. Even with the attack style of play, SJU didn’t turn it over that often. It was fun to watch and refreshing.

Of course a few things to worry about also are out there. This team would get a huge boost when/if Steere and Dunn become eligible. Sears was in immediate foul trouble. Against bigger/stronger teams those fouls will be needed. I thought Rutherford played a solid game. However, in this style no PG can play 35 or 40 minutes a night. Getting Dunn eligible is a must.

I still think we struggle against better teams but looks like we will have a chance to pick off some of them. Looking forward to watching this team grow.
I want to win Big East Championships, and make deep tournament runs, as much as anybody.

However, I've always felt that if we had a season where we were destined to have a bad record (and this season may very well be that - that's a reflection on the league, not on us, IMO), I would at least like to play games, with scores in the upper 70s, or in the 80s, while losing. I believe you can at least sell something to fans, and recruits, by doing that.

Most of our bad teams have tried to keep the scores in the 50s. When you're good, like Virginia, you can get away with that (although it's still not my preferred style). Nothing is worse then watching a bad offensive team try and keep the score low. Bad offensive teams should be doing what we do, which is push the pace, and try to use the halfcourt sets as least often as possible.

If nothing else, we will have that covered this year, and it will make most of the games interesting, and exciting, IMO. Looking forward to it.

I expect attendance to increase moving forward. I think a lot of people got burnt out after the high hopes of last seaaon, Mullin leaving, Ponds (and others) leaving, and needing to rebuild yet AGAIN as a projected last place team. Now that we look at least decent and are fun to watch, more people should show up.

I think people are forgetting the huge increase in price and the awful customer service that followed.

In my section there were people missing who almost never miss, there is a good chance they did not renew.

Expect attendance to be down quite a bit this year.

True I always sat in the cushion seats which cost due to a bad back
Maybe we could offer free tuition for a yr if a student hit a half court shot like some school recently did or have a drawing say for $100 lol but I guess the best way is to put a top ten team on the floor

Pretty sure it was mentioned student tickets to campus games are free.
MSG they have to pay for.

- Rutherford played under control. Love it.
- David C, while he didn't hit shots, loved that he mixed it up down low. Fought for rebounds.
- Champaignie will be a good one for us. Has the body. The skills.
- Williams is really rusty.
- Roberts, while his improvement is obvious, i don't know that it's remarkably improved for him to be a factor in league play. Hope I'm wrong.
- the ball movement was excellent. they pushed and ran only when appropriate. loved the mix of defenses.
- tried to pay attention to CMA during time outs and in-game, he looked to get into everyone, especially, Heron, Wiliams, and David specifically. I love it.
- hate comparing to previous staff who believed in not giving too much feedback during the games, but seeing CMA have full control was nice to see. I also saw him early in the game tell the coaches to sit down, as a couple were standing shouting direction to the team...

overall very good.

If Dunn and Steere both become eligible I don't see many minutes for Caraher

Team effort with great ball movement. Talk about being in shape, coach has them running, running and running. Such
a fast pace both on offense and defense. Rutherford played a steady and controlled game. Caraher seems to be unselfish. And what most of us, not the clueless coach, felt last year Earlington has talent. It's clear we have to rebound and break plus play pressure defense
Didn't like Mercer's penetration early in the game, afraid it will cause our big men to switch and pick up fouls. Impressed with Anderson's substitutions and feedback in the timeout huddles.Let's remember these were the kind of games we would lose.

If Caraher proves he can consistently hit the outside shot, he will play. Those "specialists" are almost always needed during games. Hope we have one with Caraher.

Sorry I thought “free” was a joke. Then I am curious why they couldn’t get a bigger crowd. Amazing that a kid with even a limited interest in sports wouldn’t go. They must have some great dorm rooms or the bar scene has really improved along Union Tpke. Not criticizing as people do there own thing. Just surprised. I drove back and forth so many times over Queens Blvd to Union Tpke for these games I knew the grooves in the road. So many things to do I guess.
My biggest takeaway is that Rutherford can run this team. They were much better with him playing point than Williams who is my one negative. We need a lot more from Williams than what we got tonight.
Williams plays like a small forward and is very unsteady handling the ball. Currently an Achilles heel that hopefully heals. Sears lack of lateral defense movement explains Julian starting as a frosh. Rest of the team looked good. Dunn and Steere will make the team very competitive in Big East games.

Well, for the common fan, they will believe the pundits. And the big pundits projected us to be an afterthought in rebuild mode nowhere near the NIT or especially NCAA's. That's why. It's kind of a "show me" period right now. Players are still new to students, coach is new, and we aren't expected to do much this year. Add to that the fact that we still have many commuters. Don't get me wrong, I'd definitely be going as a student on campus even if I had to pay, but casual fans need 2 things to go to games: 1) hype and a good team 2) good giveaways. Hopefully yesterday showed students that we may not be terrible after all and hopefully we can start giving out cool bobbleheads, Lou sweater nights, replica jerseys, drawstring backpacks, shirts, etc. instead of plastic cups.

What, no Earlington whipping this year? Dunn and Steere will add to the rotation not subtract from it.

Caraher is NOT a 3 point "specialist". He seems to be a pretty good all around player, can pass, can rebound, plays defense, plays hard. We shall see...we know what he is not, let's wait and see what he is.

I think there's room for anybody to get minutes here, as long as they play hard, can keep up with the system, and play within themselves.

IMO, this is the one style of play, where you can justify constant subbing.
