(POST GAME) @Marquette, Sun., Jan. 31, 3:30p, FOX / 570 AM WMCA

Love the win!!!!!! i Think we should have earlington on the floor more at at the end of the game instead of Cole. Earlington only came in beacuse Roberts fouled out.

Observations:

Guards: Another outstanding game for Posh whose decision making continues to improve along with his 3 ball.  Dunn played well but his limitations are what they are and aren't going to get fixed.  With Williams out (and how that hampers us has gone remarkably unremarked upon), he had to play big minutes and overall he was productive. Wusu did the things he's been doing all year when he gets the minutes to do them.  But he still ahould have dropped the ball back to Julian for an open 3 on his highlight reel play (which also should have been an and-1).

Bigs: Coach showed tremendous confidence in Josh putting him back in with 2 fouls halfway thru the first half and Josh rewarded that confidence by not picking up his third.  Toro has now taken up occupancy in Josh's former doghouse quarters.  Moore played well and it's a shame the staff did not find a way to get him on the floor with Josh to match up with the size and length of John and Garcia. Unfortunately Moore hit a 3 which predicably led to another try. Marcellus took bad shots in the first half but provided valuable paint physicality in the second half after what was presumably some coaching.

Wings: Julian is starting to become more aggressive with taking contested shots and looking for his opportunities.  It would be nice to see somety, anything, run for him. Cole played his best game, another example of Anderson's effort to show confidence being rewarded.

The team still has maturity issues as shown by the bad shot choices with the lead in first half and then giving back the whole lead.  Anderson gave them every opportunity to play thru it before he finally called a time out. But both his first half and second half timeouts stopped the bleeding and swung the game back their way.

Overall it's a road win on a game without an important starting player, and a good gutsy effort that shows growth and progress.

It seems like only 4 games ago there were people here saying we wouldn't be favored in another game all year and/or we would be lucky to win another game.  Now, crickets.

We aren't a top 10 or even a top 25 team. We are a work in progress. But we are working and we are making progress.

Lastly, MJ Maher said it best: Julian is my Xanax too.  The one player on the team that does not give me anxiety and who calms me down since I know the chances of him doing something unwise are minimal. Great analogy
I've spent plenty of time on long airline flights to get very familiar to get the feeling that I have when Champ gets the ball :)

This was a very important road win and shows CMA is fully in control of the team's destiny this season.  Rotated his 7 best players to keep them fresh and focused.
Marquette is a solid team in a slump and has talent, especially with two 5 star players we never seem to get.
Hopefully Williams is healing quickly because we need his maturity down the stretch.

yes. Looks like (hope) coach is on his way to having the best year 2 record of any of our coaches in last 10 years.

I'd argue that the best judge of a coach is from our peers.  I read the message boards of other teams in the Big East quite a bit.  All of them really respect Mike Anderson and few love playing against him.  It's a testament that he's the right guy at this place and time.  Hope he's here for a good long while, and helps bring us a long-term coach and a team identity/. We are known for our defense and his style Is exciting.  Only a matter of time before we get even better players.

Important game for Posh as we were playing against the BE Pre-season Frosh of the Year-Garcia.  On defense Julian ate his lunch while Posh was causing havoc.  While Garcia improved offensively over his 1st game versus us, Posh seemed, to this predudiced St. John's fan, to be in the lead for the Freshman of the Year in the BE because of his overall game.

Is it me or are we handling the pick at the top of the key a lot better and not getting caught in mismatches constantly (except when Toro is in the game).  Our guards seem to be handling and big men seem more in sync so they stay with their man.

PS--65% of our points came from Brooklyn!!!!!

Great gritty win.   You can tell the team is really buying into what CMA is preaching.

Our lack of a physical big man allows a very average player like Theo John look like a star.   While a guy like Nate Watson on providence might provide a problem, I like our talent matching up well in our remaining games, except for Nova.

Maybe the plan was to let John beat us /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

It was great win for the team and staff. Especially being up 15 at half and then giving it all back in literally the first two minutes of the second half. For the team to keep their composure and then hold on at the end really shows the character of this team!

Great win on the road for the kids, the school and us fans. How great would it be to steal one Wednesday night vs. Nova? Maybe we catch them asleep at the wheel after the upcoming storm! Would love this game in the Garden under normal circumstances.

Wish Moore could gain some wt,lhen learn how to play with his back to the basket, would really improve his value toward the team

Call me a homer or bias whatever I don't care, but the refs blatantly tried to give Marquette that game. Don't get me wrong we tried to give it away too many times, but the refs were in the bag.

How that wasn't over the back on that Marquette player with 3 seconds left was a joke. And then a jump ball called on Dunn when no Marquette player even had their hands on the ball... if the possession arrow was with Marquette that could've cost us the game. And don't even get me started on Wusu getting clipped by Theo John on that late layup, no call.

24 free throws for Marquette to 10 for us says it all.

just a disgrace from the referee crew today

Looks like CMA's streak in good shape to continue. I love watching these guys; the cardiac kids!

Talk about confidence, I bet  they can't wait to play Nova.  Posh is unbelievable with 6 steals, 15 points - getting bettter every game. I thought Earlington had a steady game, especially with his 4 boards and defense.

At least we won't have to worry about height with Nova.

Thank goodness for this win. Give it to Marquette, they put it to us in the 2nd half. Posh steal and finish was huge. Gonna be a lil critical here because this win streak has my expectations raised

Dunn: Jump shot outside of 15 feet makes me cringe. Defenses give him that for a reason. Best attributes are driving, defense, and dishing. Keep outside shots to a minimum

Cole: Not a savvy ball handler at all. Purely spot up or 1 dribble shot guy. Don't try splitting double team please.

Moore: Your bread and butter is at the rim. The only 3 or long 2 he should take is if the shot clock about to expire.

Champagnie: if we are struggling, he needs touches. He is so good, but want him to work a lil harder off the ball to get free for the passes in critical spots. All great players know how to free themselves despite buying keyed on by the defense.

Toro: This years alibegovic. A fouling machine. Stop it.

Posh: Stud. Levance fields or Khalid el Amin comparisons don't do posh justice.

Great win tho!
