SJU has a solid core of 9 players, 8 of whom will hopefully return next year. I would say things are looking up. Onl;y recuriting miss this year was Toro imho.
I keep expecting to see Champ pop up on draft board, kinda odd he's not coming up on any as of yet.  He's 6'8, has a decent handle, can shoot, and has a good B-Ball IQ.  His only weakness I see at the moment is his ball handling could be better and he's not really that quick, when you talk about being able to take his man off the dribble and get to the rim, however there's players I see in other conferences with identical attributes as Champ that are on draft boards and Champ is way more developed than they are.  If he keeps up developing at this rate, I don't see how he's not at the very least a high 2nd round pick after next year.  His brother is projected by one draft site as a 2nd rounder in next year's draft.

Champ may be one of those great college players that the nba isnt high on.  NBA looks for explosive athletes and thats not Champy.  I hope hes here for 2 more years.  Heck, take advantage of the covid season and stay another 3.

Posh must watch your videos for inspiration and tips on hand checks.

Love the recap!  Great job again!

The games are too stressful to watch live. I can now nice and calmy watch the replay.

Funny but strongly considered recording second half, finding out final score and watching later in a much more relaxed condition. When you're up 15 at the half  only bad things can happen as you've already played great. Did this many years ago for an NCAA T game against Temple (we were up 18 at the half) while watching with 3 friends. We went to the school yard and played hoops for an hour heard the score and watched the second half .  Of course in those days it was VCR so we risked malfunction.

Posh is far and away the biggest reason for this turnaround. Always thought if he developed a jumper he'd be an All-BE caliber player eventually. Somehow he's managed to do that in a matter of weeks which is incredible.

We have a bonafide Batman-Robin duo on this team.

Closed the half with huge plays as well as regulation can't ask for anything else.
House money game this week against Nova let's hand them their first conference defeat!

What an exciting and gritty win.  I almost bit my fingernails down to the cuticles.
Two things I noticed that hasn't been mentioned that I think is noteworthy:

1. The enthusiasm and support of the players and student managers in the bench area yelling "Defense" and clapping their hands throughout the game

2. Watching CMA's wife fist bumping all of the players as they came off the court. Great to see!!

Thank God they won.
they were on a roll, then get a 15pnt lead at the half, then I post. They collapsed to start the 2nd half and I'm saying to myself omg if they lose this game because I posted, I'm seriously going to disappear for the rest of the season because I would have been convinced that I'm the jinx 100%.
What a  relief when the game was over.

Anyway we're tied tied for 6th with pc. Huge game coming up vs Villanova on Wednesday

Big play & should have been plus 1

We got totally hosed by the refs and still won.  Is Wojo still able to parlay his dookie card this long??  It's absurd.

A few other thoughts on this and last few games:

1.  The development of Posh's 3 point game and jump shot is a huge boon to our offense.
2.  Dunn is playing very smart on offense, and him and Posh set the tone on defense, even if they sometimes gamble too much.  It would be nice for Dunn to be a bit more aggresive when he has a favorable matchup of getting to that midrange jumper.  I applaud he kid for not forcing long jumpers or trying to be something he's not, but I even hitting a few of those midrange shots opens up him getting to the basket.
3.  Julian needs to keep working on going to his right and getting to the lane when crowded.  He has the skillset to do that and it makes that "go left, step back" jumper he loves even more effective and hard to play.
4.  Roberts is a difference maker when he's in there on defense.  I don't care how many bunnies he misses, he is the only big we have who makes a difference in the paint on defense.
5.  Moore is a real asset when he's in the paint on offense or in transition.  He should only take a 3 or long jumper when it is not contested and late in the clock.  After he made that first one, I knew inevitably we were going to have a bad one at some point, and that happened.
6.  Wusu is already a head player.  When that jumper comes along, he is going to be really good.  But lately he's only been taking that 3 when left wide open and to keep the opponent honest, it seems.  He's recognized on offense he's better driving to the hole.
7.  I want Cole shooting every time he has an open or semi-open 3, and the team needs to look for him whenever that options presents itself.  By contrast, he is half the player, if that, when he has to put the ball on the floor.  I know he needs to do this at times to keep defenses honest, and so I think necessarily it has to be part of his game, but he should continue to maximize opportunities to spot up.  I also appreciate that he's willing despite his slender to mix it up and compete on the boards.

The effort is night and day. Look at Cole. He's just a different player over the last few weeks. Engaged defensively. Quick hands.

Also anyone who watched OSL last year knows how good these kids are. Fearless. It's satisfying watching them get the national attention they deserve. I Sunday on national TV after the MLK day win vs UCONN. People notice!!!!

i love it.

My delts look like that too....  /media/kunena/emoticons/blink.png

His delts will be as big as the ball by sr. year.

Great genetics and must have incredible work ethic off the court.

Terrible job by refs, totally biased toward Marquette. And agree no fouls on John ridiculous when foul was so obvious on Wusu layup!

Great gritty win.   You can tell the team is really buying into what CMA is preaching.

Our lack of a physical big man allows a very average player like Theo John look like a star.   While a guy like Nate Watson on providence might provide a problem, I like our talent matching up well in our remaining games, except for Nova.

Observations:

Guards: Another outstanding game for Posh whose decision making continues to improve along with his 3 ball.  Dunn played well but his limitations are what they are and aren't going to get fixed.  With Williams out (and how that hampers us has gone remarkably unremarked upon), he had to play big minutes and overall he was productive. Wusu did the things he's been doing all year when he gets the minutes to do them.  But he still ahould have dropped the ball back to Julian for an open 3 on his highlight reel play (which also should have been an and-1).

Bigs: Coach showed tremendous confidence in Josh putting him back in with 2 fouls halfway thru the first half and Josh rewarded that confidence by not picking up his third.  Toro has now taken up occupancy in Josh's former doghouse quarters.  Moore played well and it's a shame the staff did not find a way to get him on the floor with Josh to match up with the size and length of John and Garcia. Unfortunately Moore hit a 3 which predicably led to another try. Marcellus took bad shots in the first half but provided valuable paint physicality in the second half after what was presumably some coaching.

Wings: Julian is starting to become more aggressive with taking contested shots and looking for his opportunities.  It would be nice to see somety, anything, run for him. Cole played his best game, another example of Anderson's effort to show confidence being rewarded.

The team still has maturity issues as shown by the bad shot choices with the lead in first half and then giving back the whole lead.  Anderson gave them every opportunity to play thru it before he finally called a time out. But both his first half and second half timeouts stopped the bleeding and swung the game back their way.

Overall it's a road win on a game without an important starting player, and a good gutsy effort that shows growth and progress.

It seems like only 4 games ago there were people here saying we wouldn't be favored in another game all year and/or we would be lucky to win another game.  Now, crickets.

We aren't a top 10 or even a top 25 team. We are a work in progress. But we are working and we are making progress.

Lastly, MJ Maher said it best: Julian is my Xanax too.  The one player on the team that does not give me anxiety and who calms me down since I know the chances of him doing something unwise are minimal. Great analogy

What's interesting is that as bad as we looked in the paint against John, the rebounds were even and the damage in the paint was offset by a hot night from 3.   But you gotta believe that if Coach can get a real rim protector at some point our defense will be truly fierce
