(POST GAME) Marquette, Sat., Mar. 7, Noon, NY 9 & FSN / 970AM

In light of the publicity about playing less games at the Garden , what was the Attendance today ? Allowing for a 12 noon start , Corona Virus, etc .
Attendance was 7,720
And SJU gave away a bunch of tickets to faculty and employees.
Look at the bright side. We could have played this game in an empty arena due to the pandemic of fear griping the nation. A noon Saturday start against an unranked team likely cost a thousand fans.
The brightest part of the game was watching the unheralded players playing the most important roles in the game.
Julian was spectacular and Rutherford played the best game if his career. Beating Georgetown would make this season special given the mal'occhio of losing Heron, then Roberts and Rasheem suffering from a URI. The only true point guard McGriff never even suited up for the season. 16-15 looks mediocre but there were ar least 3 games we should have won. 19-12 would have us discussing the NCAA instead of the NIT.
Kudos to the players, coaches , seniors and their families on this special day.

What does URI stand for?

The attendance was low but I believe the Coronavirus scare kept some folks home. My wife and I had our Purell and kept gloves on while in MSG. The NBA had a release today where they said they were contemplating playing games in empty arenas. Interesting thought for NCAA's as things will get worse.

As to the game, no mention of Dunn other than his being ill. He showed his toughness in the end and had the driving lay up and made both his FT's--a difference maker when it was on the line. as to close games-not good for us"old-timers", too much stress unlike Creighton, but I loved the final result. Needed a few Irish to come down.

Heard about a store in NYC charging $79 for bottle of Purell and $109 for a larger bottle.

They probably meant Rah had a UTI. Urinary Tract Infection.

I've had several in the past few years. They can be very miserable.

20 year old kids rarely get UTI's. URI stands for upper respiratory infection!!!!!

Some of their fans are calling for Wojo's head.

In 6 years he has produced

Season Team Overall Conference Standing Postseason
Marquette Golden Eagles (Big East Conference) (2014–present)
2014–15 Marquette 13–19 4–14 T–9th
2015–16 Marquette 20–13 8–10 7th
2016–17 Marquette 19–13 10–8 T–3rd NCAA Round of 64
2017–18 Marquette 21–14 9–9 T–6th NIT Quarterfinals
2018–19 Marquette 24–10 12–6 2nd NCAA Round of 64
2019–20 Marquette 18–12 8–10 T–6th

They have the #14 class next year with three 4* players coming in, but replacing Howard is going to be tough.

I think that Marquette would be crazy to dismiss Wojo. His teams play hard and he recruits well. Instability has its downsides .... see St.John’s .

Losing an All-American type player is never a good thing overall. That said, Howard's departure will allow Marquette to get back to playing a more team oriented style of offense.

Otis if you look at his record it is very similar to Lavins. Of course one can find differences but if the AD has higher aspirations for his team then I can u nderstand the reasoning. Perhaps they feel they see a ceiling with him ?
Something I don’t with CMA. I see a coach who has taken amish mash of players and has gotten them to overachieve in a major way. Yes there have been some disappointments, but with experience which our entire team minus Steere are obtaining, and increased talent which is coming and hopefully a higher level down the road, we can be very very good.
Fingers crossed.

I don’t disagree with you but not making it past the first round (I refuse to call it the second round) of the tournament isn’t helping his case.

I thought Caraher played his best game of the season, he got to a big 50/50 ball late in the game on an offensive rebound that led to a basket

Caraher is such a heady basketball player. If he keeps improving his conditioning and shooting he is going to be a very steady contributor for the next few years. Would be very upset if he left.

I concur 100%. He may not be a star In the BE but he has certainly contributed, albeit at various levels , this season. No one should discount the experience factor and team continuity on a going forward basis.

Nah I just don’t think he can play at this level. Not where MA is trying to go. Effort is amazing, but just very limited.

Caraher is a very good mid-range shooter. Obviously athletically he has his limitations but he's got a nice feel for the game. I don't see his role expanding much but if he's ok with that he can add value off the bench.

Only 8 points, but they were big. Ditto Dunn's 4 points.

I've been telling you guys all season ever since I saw cabarer play in mohegan sun that he is good and deserves time. Especially near the end of games when we need a 3 point shooter
