(POST GAME) Marquette, Sat., Mar. 7, Noon, NY 9 & FSN / 970AM

Champagnie and Williams certainly playing like the future! Great stuff! I also think it’s wonderful that Mike Anderson kept his zero losing season streak alive. It’s a big thing for him and a rare stay. We aren’t done playing yet and are playing decent ball now. Let’s take it to Georgetown at our home and keep winning.
Theoretically we could lose to Gtown and still make the NIT. Streak not 100 percent safe yet.
Not losing to GT

Um it’s very easy to be happy. We have lost a bunch of close games at MSG, and although our play and free throw shooting was flawed down the stretch, we won one. Happy for the kids
Yep. Missed 15

As i said, I’m happy we won. But we did everything we could to lose the game. It’s been a reoccurring theme throughout the year and it’s not just because of a lack of talent. Difficult to feel good about that.
We win this game by 10+ if we hit free throws
Terrible

What a gritty win. Champ and Williams have really stepped up big time.
Two things that nearly blew it for us: FT shooting and many missed bunnies
Love the relentless effort on defense creating steals and forcing turnovers
Classy move to get senior Cole into the game late in the first half
We need to kick Georgetown's arses and help keep CMA's streak alive
He's only 1 of 4 and, barring a miracle, Roy Williams will lose his streak this year
LET'S GO JOHNNIES!!!!!

Plus 4 of 9 from FT line...don’t see that we take a step back if he decides to leave...CMA has created a next man up culture and we have competed, outside of 2-3 games, in spite of LJ. Kudos to the kids...Don’t think I have ever been this optimistic after a 16-15 season.

Only issue I have is late game strategy and execution. Under no circumstance should Rutherford be dribbling down the clock in a tight game
Who do you want dribbling down the clock? Dunn has dribbled the ball of his foot 4 times this year in final minute
21 & 12 for Julian
I just got home from the game; WOW!. Most of the time when I am "at" a game I am sitting in the upper tier at Carnesseca or the 200's or 300's at the Garden. Today I was lucky enough to have Spike Lee seats (well the one he used to have) right on the court. I always liked Julian's game, though he would develop into a good 4-year player; watching him up close today was eye-opening. This kid can jump out of the gym. The ball comes off the rim and you see his shoulders and head above the scrum, plays tough D, is suddenly shooting the ball well. What a pick up, what a piece for our future.

Don’t want anyone dribbling down the clock. But, if we are, its Dunn it’s he is the only one capable of getting to the basket.

One thing that got me angry was Coach not using his final timeout when Nick shot that three. We needed a basket there

Exciting to finish the regular season on an up note. Had to listen through the TuneIn app since it was the first game I wasn't able to watch on the west coast but it ended up being a fun way to take in the game.

Growth of the young/role players on this team has been phenomenal. Given some of the star power leaving the league next season and the progress our guys have shown, I'm starting to feel much more optimistic about next season. Tough to trust freshman but if Posh/McGriff can handle PG duties competently I think our offensive improvement could really surprise people who aren't paying attention to us. We should be much more versatile.

Let's beat Georgetown.

This staff should get props for the development of Champ, Williams, Roberts and Earlington (if I told you last year he'd be a legit BE player, which I think he already is, you'd thought I was nuts). That has to be a great selling point for recruiting.

Agreed, Greg & Julian are keepers & will give a lot of teams fits over their career

Sorry but he cost us games this year with his dribbling in final possession. Multiple times. Pickings are slim but I’m Rutherford in those instances.

Dunn should work on becoming a slasher. Not primary handler driving. Run plays for him off screens

LJ may not be the sure fire nba player we hoped for, but kets not delude ourselves into thinking we are winning despite him.

Other guys are rising up on a game to game basis, but that doesn't mean he isn't the number 1 ficus that competitors are trying to stop

He could have played better sure, but 15, 3, 3, &3 by anyone else and we would be raving about it. It’s all expectations.

Wrong box score.

On the way home now on the LIRR after dinner and drinks after the game with wife and old friends.

With the refs help we tried to give it sway but quick hands at the end prevailed.

St. John’s Head Coach Mike Anderson

Opening Statement:

“We’ve been in many games [this season] like the one this afternoon and it came down to making plays. You are looking at two guys [Julian Champagnie and Greg Williams Jr.] that made some plays going down the stretch that were big plays. … Julian came up with a steal when [Markus] Howard went to the basket with us up two points. We came up with [the loose ball] and go to the free throw line with three seconds left and we miss two free throws. Now they have a chance to heave it and this guy [Greg Williams Jr.] deflects the pass and game over. Those are the plays we haven’t been making so it was good to see us make plays. Even as Marquette made runs I thought we answered. Rasheem [Dunn], a guy that hasn’t practiced in two days, he’s been under the weather, he played on shear guts. We needed everybody to come out and play for us. The layup [Rasheem Dunn] made was huge when [Marquette] tied it up. It was a good team win to finish [off the regular-season] and now we get ready for the next one.”

Attendance was 7,720
And SJU gave away a bunch of tickets to faculty and employees.

Watching St. John's play is not for the faint of heart. Up by twenty points you knew that they were going to give back the lead. I would rather see them come from behind and take a lead. Making their free throws would have made things easier. While all is said and done the team played a hell of a game. So glad they came out on top. They certainly deserved to win today. A couple of Big East tourney wins would be the icing on the cake.

Definitely watched too many George Gervin highlights on youtube.
