(POST-GAME) Georgetown (MSG), Sun. Jan. 27, NOON, FOX / 570AM

Mullin is now either 31 or 32 games below .500 in conference play.
. Game today was entirely on the Players on the Court . The Early timeouts were necessary to stem the streak the Hoyas had at the time . We are all guilty of overrating this team due to the early Record . Announcers keep saying how great our talent is, where is it any better than our BE opponents ? Simon ‘s offense is not of a BE player and hasn’t been all year . Today , McClung abused him on Defense . A big weakness of this team is SHOOTING .. Too much of our Offense is slashing to the basket , missing , not getting fouled , not getting any offensive rebounds . Can’t blame Mullin for Bad Shooting . Really bad .
Mullin is 15-47 in conference play. I think St. John's fans can blame him for anything we want. He chose not to recruit big men. He chose not to dump Mitch and hire an experienced coach. He chose to put together a cupcake OOC schedule. He chose to shorten his bench in November! The crap we are seeing game in and game out is his doing.
The cupcake OOC schedule was the only smart thing he did. Otherwise, he would be looking at double digit losses by now.

Has replacing a coach every 5 years worked for us?
Here's the difference. Mullin should never have been hired in the first place. The school chose nostalgia over more qualified candidates.

Isn't that an indictment of the decision making at he administrative level? You make the right hire, you don't have to make coaching changes every 5 years.
I'd be much more fine with getting a new coach every 5 years or so, if we were doing it like Xavier or Butler, where the coach was going on to bigger and better things.

The problem is that, we don't even have someone who fits us, as well as say, Ed Cooley fits at Providence (Providence native, fan of the team growing up, relentless recruiter, good motivator of men, etc.). Anybody we bring in, will come with their share of question marks.

I'd love for Nate Oates of Buffalo to come here, but I'm assuming he will have bigger fish to fry at the end of the season. Even so, if he's willing to come here even as a stepping stone for 3 or 4 seasons, I'd take him. However, most people involved in the administration have shown in the past that they do not want someone like that.

I blamed Mullin plenty for first year not coaching. But we missed so many bunnies I swear we must be Anti Easter but also the spacing on offense with shots was fucking horrible. Season over if we don’t beat Creighton and Providence on the road. I’ll still go to providence but Jesus guys give us better effort

No more big name coaches, because they have money, and are very comfy here.

If he walks after this year:
Please hire an up and comer, who is hungry for success.
Who him and staff will always show their faces at high profile recruiting events.
I'd just keep Matt from this staff, and one other recruiter.

"So Mustapha Heron admitted post game St John's went through the motions in the first half. After 8 days off. That's hard to comprehend. That's on the coaches AND the players"

Guys, I think we care more about the program that all of them do
And Mustapha wants to go pro after this season?
Not with that attitude
You need to bring it all the time in every game
Take nothing for granted - EVER!!!
Yeah Heron will be a pro, in China.

Not having a time out thwarted the comeback. Ponds would have called time out if he could. But the truth is that if you can't beat G Town at home with a full roster, you can't beat anybody in the conference.
Was a key issue, burning all TOs so early came back to bite them in ass.
Should have borrowed one from Ewing

Very disappointing. Can’t understand how we did not post both of their guards especially with Govan willing to play Clark on the perimeter
I never before seen a college basketball team play a defense where it’s players automatically switch without even attempting to fight through a screen thereby causing the point guarding the center down under.
Kevin Williams sitt8ng in front of me today. He was more than frustrated at the Keita switches.

Actually, they started three frosh. Villanova plays three, Providence plays four, Marquette two, and everyone except Xavier and SJU goes eight to ten deep.

The only school that can get away with this transfer philosophy is Nevada, and they have a clever coach and a weak conference schedule.

How about sitting his ass down, why does Simon get so much playing time ?????
He cant shoot, he cant handle the ball, he plays no defense. Why is he playing and taking shots when it is so important for us to score ???? MIND BOGGLING
Simon left open in first half to take three pointers - no thanks. His defense on McClung was horrible, overrated defensively. Actually I would prefer to have Williams get more of Simon's playing time. I really believe he can help offensively if getting more time and involved in our offense.
Simon played great defense on Howard and Powell essentially by 100% committing to taking them out of the game by face guarding them. He didn’t do that today or against Butler. Once we identify the “killer” on the the other team, that should be his mission.

We made Marquette uncomfortable and have not done so since.

Would not be surprised to see the next coach to have duke ties.

Maybe outside the box but Pitino’s son? Thought he was going to Louisville when his pops retired now out of question. Family from NY maybe a possibility

How can he honestly point to all those cupcake wins as a sign this is just another loss and they are still way over .500?

He is incompetent as a head coach.

Doesn't recruit, doesn't coach the huddle, doesn't manage the time outs etc.....its a shame.
As to your first point-because Beast and his flock repeat the same mantra. Hopefully in his own head he is saying we have to be better and I have to look at how we can do things differently to make us better. I know he likes to give his guys confidence with shooting the rock but there is a reason Simon is left wide open to shoot 3s it is because that's what the other team wants. So maybe start with raining in Simon's shooting of 3s.
Maybe Cragg can grab a Duke assistant, get someone that's learning under one of the best, what could it hurt.
If we're a top team in year 4 or 5 under him, I wouldn't care where we got him from.
I just want a winner at this damn point in time, sick of losing.

Would scare me big time if that were the case, unless it's Mike Brey, who we know it won't be.

Hiring Duke assistants generally has the same success rates as hiring Patriots assistants.

Anyone else getting annoyed at Zach B's obvious bias? Always taking stabs at St. John's and its so dreadfully obvious he has a thing for Seton Hall. He never criticizes them and always has good things to say, even though they've lost 4 in a row and just lost by almost THIRTY to Nova. I can't believe this is our Beat Writer.

Or hiring a former SJU player with no experience?

Zach B covered Isaiah Whitehead extensively in high school, and from what I understand, became very close to the family.

Once Willard landed him, it was his ticket to a free pass. Even the first year, when they struggled, and we went to NCAA, Willard was getting a pass from Zach B. The Whitehead thing changed everything with Zach.

I applauded Lavin at the time for not selling out to get Whitehead, but looking back, it turned out to be a mistake.

Georgetown went into this game believing they were the better team, and you know what their right.

The reason I say that is they believe they blew that game 3 weeks ago and they played without 2 key rotation players McClung and Mourning. Think about that up 4 with 19 seconds left they should win that game. And McClung had 27 today.

I'm sorry if you ask me on the whole whose roster is better Georgetown or SJU if we're being honest Georgetown has a better overall roster. There is no doubt in my mind Ewing told his team flat out if we execute and take care of the ball we will win because we're better.

I have to be honest I think this is a mediocre roster.
