Sorry, hope I'm wrong (as I've said many years as a fan)  but what I've seen of this team so far, I don't see us finishing in the top half of the BE. Too many holes, both offensively (no wing to complement Julian's scoring) and defensively (need I say more).
I completely disagree.  i am very encouraged with what I saw tonight.  Putting Wusu and Nyiwe in the starting lineup and playing them major minutes makes us a much more dangerous team.  We are more athletic, better on D, better rebounding and better passing the ball.  And I fell like this team had a spark that they havent had this year and that was created by Wusu and Nyiwe's energy.

I am excited to see the new starting 5 play major minutes moving forward and I think we are going to see a much better team in the next 2 games which are going to be tough games.  Monmouth and Colgate might not be Duke, but these are teams that will beat you if you are not on your game.

I really like this new look St Johns and I think we are onto something here.  Stay tuned.

Duke, you do realize that Fordham is an A10 bottom feeder, don't you? We've looked awful against the cupcakes we've played so far (everyone but KU0 and the one quality team (KU) we played crushed us. Plus on the whole, the transfers-in have been less than BE-level. As stated, I hope I'm wrong, from what I've seen so far, I'm optimistic. Hope the team proves me wrong.
Ken the way I see it, we have 2 players with enough talent to start on a good Big East team: Champ and Posh. No doubt Mathis and Wusu have Big East level talent, but they should be coming off the bench on a good team. Everyone else is still suspect IMO. So, no matter what CMA does with this team, we are always going to be starting 3 kids who should not be starting on a good Big East team. How CMA plans on overcoming that is beyond me. Same issue as last season; some good talent but other then Posh and Champ(and maybe Moore), no one else who should have been starting on a good Big East team. That's why we didn't make the tournament.
Mathis is a former 4-star player and started on Rutgers which was a good Big 10 team the last couple years, they would have made the tournament the year tourney was cancelled and they made it last year, he started 36 games during that time.  And Big 10 has been considered better than Big East.

What he did in high school(4 stars) is irrelevant. It's 4 years later. Last season he started 13 out of 28 games on a  team that finished 16-12. I believe he came bench for the last 15 games. Regardless, he was 7th on the team in MPG.

He has started games on 2 tournament level teams, that was my point.  You were saying he's not a good enough player to start on a good BE team, when he's already did that 2 years in a row in a better conference.  And if you remember in the Indiana game he was playing better than Posh and Champ before he got ejected, we know now based on what he's brought so far that was a huge loss, he may have been the difference in that game.

Some good ansdstill some bad. This kind of play won't cut it against conference opponents. The NJITs and Fordhams of the world should not be making huge runs against a team with NCAA aspirations.

Without Posh, this game could have been a loss. He was everywhere, including bailing out his teammates mistakes. He even bailed himself out on a few occasions after getting sloppy with his dribble.

Nyiwe really had a nice game. Played within himself and with his usual energy and activity. If he can eventually be our new Moore I would be happy.  He must be showing something in practice to get the start and a lot of minutes tonight.

Mathis had a good game, but he must be a nightmare to coach. Lots of speed and athleticism and can finish, but too many bone headed plays.

As much as we'd like to see all the problems with this team vanish into thin air, that is not going to happen.  We just need to see less mistakes, and the strengths of this team be on display more often.

For the most part, we saw that tonight.  In fact, I thought we played very well for the first 28 minutes.  The last 12 minutes, Fordham got it more into their desired tempo.

That's going to be a key to this team: Dictate the tempo.  That's harder to do when you want to play a faster game, so we need to improve the rebounding (which was better tonight, then the past few games).

Any good explanation as to why Posh’s turnovers are up over last year?

That’s an easy one.  Posh is not a primary ball handler and Dunn’s absence hurts.  I notice that when Wusu and Pinzon are in the game they often run the sets over Posh.  Posh does a lot of things well but he is not a great ball handler at this point.

Yes he has a nice game, but was taller but than anybody, in BE let’s see what happens  He need to be around the rim more and needs low posts moves with his back towards the basket, we all can se he can jump and is quick. Let’s see what coach can do can do to develop this talent that’s the question

Fordham has a really good coach.   Neptune's use of time outs is good.   He quietly works the refs instead of blowing fits..   Quisenberry would start for us, solid player.   Fordham just doesn't have the horses.   Kyle learned from the best, and has the countenance of a top coach.   I hope he sticks around a while, but if he has any success there others will come calling.

Who are you giving game ball to ?

Posh had nice #'s, but think Wusu & Nyiwe split it

Wusu, when he went to the bench in the second half Fordham went on a 10 point run, he came back in and stabilized the team.  His plus rating had to be through the roof.  Wusu's all-around game was the difference.   Posh had a great game and hit some circus shots but he has to cut down on his turnovers.  I think Nywie is getting a lot of love because he came out of nowhere and showed a lot, but he was the third or fourth best Johnnie last night.  It's not a knock, but objectively he wasn't better than Dylan or Posh last night.

Since Fordham is a NYC school, I'd like them to do well, I think their hire of Neptune was a home run. He looks like he can coach and has a nice pedigree.

Posh's turnovers are up due to not having Dunn and feeling it's all on him to make things happen.

Beat a team we should beat, pretty handily, let's move on from here, and not lose or go into OT with any gimmes.

Don't lose to a soft Pitt team at the Garden, please.

Can’t take any game for granted but I’m more worried about Monmouth and Colgate than Pitt

In a couple of years, Neptune will pull a Digger Phelps and bolt for greener pastures.  Rightfully so.

Is there a system where we would ever have twin towers (Nyiwe and Soriano) on the court together with Posh Champ and Wusu?

Think Stanley at the 4 is definitely possible. Moves his feet well enough to play D on the perimeter and he won’t have to rebound all by himself.

While I like Mathis as a player and especially for CMA's style if I remember correctly he started for Rutgers only for the better part of the first half of the season last year and was then moved to the bench which may be why he transferred here.
