Is this the new plan moving forward?  Start Posh, Wusu, Mathis, Champy and Nyiwe and play them 30 minutes each.  And the other 10 minutes can get spread around with our terrible bench?

If so, count me in.  I love it.  Always that the subbing in and out every 2 minutes hurt the teams cohesion and rythnm.

Our starters get 30 minutes a night each game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Count me in Coach!!!!!!!!!!

nywie will not be able to play those kind of minutes against good competition.

Then who is?  Cause it sure as heck aint Soriano.  He too unathletic and slow footed to play against elite competition.  There is a reason Nyiwe was at Texas Tech and Soriano was at Fordham.

Nywie almost fouled out against Fordham’s frontline tonight.  I promise you he cannot to play 30 minutes a game on a regular basis against a Big East frontline.  Soriano, Stanley and Wheeler will play plenty.  If we got more than 20 minutes a game from Nywie in Big East play, I’d be shocked.  He played well today but I’m not convinced he’s as good as Josh Roberts was.  Time will tell.

I think hes more athletic then Roberts and a much better passer then Roberts.  There offensive game is equally bad. Where Nyiwe will struggle is against a skilled big who has some muscle on him like nate Watson.  But Im not sure how many of those are in the big east.

Soriano is unathletic, slow footed and clogs up the middle.  Im not sure those are traits you can improve upon.

He wasnt a fit for CMAs system to begin with.  They made him lose weight thinking that would help but it just hasnt.  I dont see Soriano here next year.  He will transfer down and play at a school that plays a slow pace and uses a back to the basket center.

Think it's too early to make a decision on Soriano.  He's playing in a completely new system at a new weight, he's gotta get quicker on defense and trust his instincts more, he's out there thinking too much right now.  He's had his moments and I'd imagine he'll have some more moments, the key for him is to keep a positive attitude and keep improving everyday.  I've seen big men in CMA's system look terrible their first year in the system then the next year be one of the best big men in the league.  Moses Kingsley was a big man that averaged 4 PPG his first couple years in CMA system, then once it clicked his junior season, his senior season he was pre-season SEC POY and the best big man in the league.  Another off-season of toning up his body and working on his defense will do wonders for Soriano.

And not that he'll do it, but he has two more seasons because everyone who was on a roster last season got the extra year, right?

Can improve a lot, but we need to be patient. It's not like St. John's is a big man factory, so I'd prefer to see this thing through.

One thing Soriano does really well down low is identify and kick it out to the open shooter. Reminds me of Julius Randall the way he can do it so quickly

Yes, Soriano has 2 more seasons after this.  He's got time to get better and he'll learn.  Like I said, he's had his moments.  He'll end up being a good piece if he keeps a positive attitude and keep working hard.  We have to remember he's moving up from being on a terrible A-10 team to playing in the Big East, that's a huge adjustment.

The person I'm more concerned with is Wheeler.  On paper the guy is a tailor made for this system.  He's already in great shape and has the build to be effective in this playing style, and he's a high major guy.  This is his 4th year in college and he's 23 years old, you rarely see someone this old have a dramatic improvement.  I think he pretty much is what he is at this point.

Sorry, hope I'm wrong (as I've said many years as a fan)  but what I've seen of this team so far, I don't see us finishing in the top half of the BE. Too many holes, both offensively (no wing to complement Julian's scoring) and defensively (need I say more).
I completely disagree.  i am very encouraged with what I saw tonight.  Putting Wusu and Nyiwe in the starting lineup and playing them major minutes makes us a much more dangerous team.  We are more athletic, better on D, better rebounding and better passing the ball.  And I fell like this team had a spark that they havent had this year and that was created by Wusu and Nyiwe's energy.

I am excited to see the new starting 5 play major minutes moving forward and I think we are going to see a much better team in the next 2 games which are going to be tough games.  Monmouth and Colgate might not be Duke, but these are teams that will beat you if you are not on your game.

I really like this new look St Johns and I think we are onto something here.  Stay tuned.

Duke, you do realize that Fordham is an A10 bottom feeder, don't you? We've looked awful against the cupcakes we've played so far -- whixh is everyone but KU, who crushed us. Plus, on the whole, the transfers-in have been disappointing. As stated, I hope I'm wrong, but from what I've seen so far, I'm not optimistic. Hope the team  proves me wrong.

Nyiwe going to be real good but I wish someone would tell him Go to the Rim! On Fast breaks and off side penetrations his tendency is to back up to the 3 point line! He would do so much damage if he just always went to the Rim! There were numerous instances tonight...sit him down and let him watch the film...he did the same thing in the Kansas game...ridiculous....you have posh fighting at the rim and Nyiwe at the 3 point line...he is always late to the rim...

Ken the way I see it, we have 2 players with enough talent to start on a good Big East team: Champ and Posh. No doubt Mathis and Wusu have Big East level talent, but they should be coming off the bench on a good team. Everyone else is still suspect IMO. So, no matter what CMA does with this team, we are always going to be starting 3 kids who should not be starting on a good Big East team. How CMA plans on overcoming that is beyond me. Same issue as last season; some good talent but other then Posh and Champ(and maybe Moore), no one else who should have been starting on a good Big East team. That's why we didn't make the tournament.

Mathis is a former 4-star player and started on Rutgers which was a good Big 10 team the last couple years, they would have made the tournament the year tourney was cancelled and they made it last year, he started 36 games during that time.  And Big 10 has been considered better than Big East.

Mathis, on paper is exactly what he produced at Rutgers.  Will take it.

Wheeler, on paper is almost what is #'s at Purdue were.  Watching, he's even less effective.

Smith, Coburn & Soriano moved up.  Soriano was the one i was most concerned with coming in..  i think we'll get an uninspiring 5&5 or 6&6 from him at best during conf play.

Smith just doesnt look like he's feeling it.

Coburn i give pass to as he wasn't even planning to play this year

What he did in high school(4 stars) is irrelevant. It's 4 years later. Last season he started 13 out of 28 games on a  team that finished 16-12. I believe he came bench for the last 15 games. Regardless, he was 7th on the team in MPG.
