(POST-GAME) DePaul, Sat. Jan. 12, 6p, CBS SN / 970 AM

Random bothersome things.
Small ball only works when you have at least one decent big man. We have none.
Femi: career high 27 points 8 rebounds.  Keita: no offensive game.
There is no one on this team capable of making up Ponds points.
Mullin waits until last 3 minutes to play havoc defense.
DePaul's front line is better than St. John's any day of the week.  Abject recruiting failure in the weakest part of team construction.
We have the most unproductive bench in the Big East.
Mullin spends too much time bitching to the refs.
With Ponds we have the best starting 5 in the conference. We have no bench and no size which cancels everything out when we face a good team with size and depth.
One player not playing shouldn't affect your entire season but it does with this staff.
The devolution of Heron under the tutelage of Mitch Richmond makes me wonder about his ability to teach players.
Speaking of teaching it hard for players to learn when your coaches are still learning.
Last year I said pray to God Shamorie Ponds returns. Now pray he doesn't have to play hurt.
Hopefully reality is sinking in for a few fans that were beating their chests after just 2 Big East wins.
Welcome back Jack Williams and Mike Zaun. People need to hear from younger voices with better eyesight than most of us here.

Took a very irresponsible technical with the deficit at 6 and the need at that point for SJU to get stops if they were going to have any chance to win.

1 SJU loses another in large part because of lack of size and depth. Nothing new here.
2 Ponds draft ranking is going to drop substantially if he can't play the college schedule health wise. The NBA is many more games against bigger and stronger players and teams will shy away from taking a chance on him.
Agree. I also do not buy the argument that we lose the end game because the players are tired. These are young in shape athletes. They should be able to play 40 minutes if need be. They get rest at the time out. There are many players in the NBA who play substantial minutes night in and night out!
Zion Williamson plays 26 minutes a game, let that sink in.
Williamson weighs 285 pounds hardly comparable to some of our "tired" guys who weigh less than 200 pounds. Also, in most games there is no need for Zion to play longer.
He's also going number one in the draft. Weight has nothing to do with it. He will play 32 min a game as a rookie.

Well, Zion missed the whole second half today after getting poked in the eye (he should be fine for Monday), and I'm sure he got an early rest in many non-conference games, when Duke was blowing out their overmatched competition.

I fully expect Zion's minutes per game to go up.

Cant argue with many of these points. Not all, but many. Obviously too early to assess Keita, injury and all, but I'm not sure what it is he does well, other than being taller than the rest of the team.

Second half, DePaul is confused on defense, the guy guarding Trimble leaves him to talk to a teammate at the top of the key, Trimble had an easy cut to the basket to accept a pass for a lay-up, he never moved.

Speaking of Zion, after watching Femi bully in the paint, I may have to skip the Duke game.

The point is that it's ludicrous to expect this squad to play 40 minutes without being exhausted. Zion's efficiency and injury risk would suffer if he played all game.
Not happy that’s all I’m gonna say till monday
What happens on Monday?

We are a .500 team in BE. I turned on Nevada vs Fresno St. fresno st has great spacing and ball movement. Our spacing sucks. We have 5 guys passing ball around 3 point line. This is a broken record. Our coaching staff stinks and we have no depth. No excuse for not having 8 man rotation

What happens on Monday?
i gave up alcohol sugar meat etc. Monday is 72 hours and hopefully I’m not in such a destructive mode because a lot of things pissed me off this game

I agree in general, but that really was not much of a factor today. Look at the boxscore. 28 minutes played for the St. John's bench, only 26 minutes for the Depaul bench.

Just got home from game. A few observations:

-energy level by the team and the crowd about as low as I can remember it for most of game, right from get-go

- Refs sucked for both teams

-we were 6 pt favs without Ponds, no excuse for losing tonight

-DePaul in control for most of game. Hoping we could pull out home court win much like SH(notwithstanding the gift by the refs) and Nova did to us after we were in control most of game. Clearly we’re not SH or Nova, certainly not without Ponds.

-my first game at CA all year. Forgot how uncomfortable and tight the seats are. Will stick to MSG for, maybe, the rest of my life

Other then that, not much to add that hasn’t already been said
This was my first time at CA in nearly 4 years, and like you, I might never go back. It is such an uncomfortable experience to sit through a game in there. Nevermind the heat, but I'm not a big guy, about 5'9 160 pounds and my knees were still hitting the person in front of me and I felt crammed in between the people around me.
Feeling crammed in between people around you is not a legitimate complaint in these days of gender neutrality. Kudos to me for trying to keep a sense of humor after giving up watching NFL playoff action to spend over 2 hours commuting and some 2 1/2 hours in the friendly confines of Carnesecca Arena.

I had Peruvian stir fried beef (lomo saltado), washed it down with a Stella, and had Peruvian cheesecake (Lucuma) for dessert. As Lloyd Bridges In the Airplane movies said, you picked the wrong week to give up alcohol.
Man, the lack of size is absolutely brutal. Look like a HS team out there. No excuse to have the roster as is. Ponds is out and we look like the worst team in the BE.
Except this was supposed to be the best roster since 1998-99 no?

If you gave up beer the season sober. I mean over. I mean I don't believe you.
As for the shit show we witnessed tonight why anyone is shocked is surprising. We are Shamorie Ponds. Everyone else is a co-star including the coaches. With zero inside game and no Ponds we could conceivably lose every Big East game on the road and barely beat teams at home.

Got back from the game about 45 minutes ago and I’m still so freaking annoyed at this loss. Maybe we should start playing DePaul at MSG, because they certainly have our number at CA.

Nothing more to add to what’s all been said. I just hope Ponds returns at full strength and that this isn’t the beginning of a BE meltdown.
