(POST-GAME) DePaul, Sat. Jan. 12, 6p, CBS SN / 970 AM

Just got home from game. A few observations:

-energy level by the team and the crowd about as low as I can remember it for most of game, right from get-go

- Refs sucked for both teams

-we were 6 pt favs without Ponds, no excuse for losing tonight

-DePaul in control for most of game. Hoping we could pull out home court win much like SH(notwithstanding the gift by the refs) and Nova did to us after we were in control most of game. Clearly we’re not SH or Nova, certainly not without Ponds.

-my first game at CA all year. Forgot how uncomfortable and tight the seats are. Will stick to MSG for, maybe, the rest of my life

Other then that, not much to add that hasn’t already been said

Two post game observations ;
1 SJU loses another in large part because of lack of size and depth. Nothing new here.
2 Ponds draft ranking is going to drop substantially if he can't play the college schedule health wise. The NBA is many more games against bigger and stronger players and teams will shy away from taking a chance on him.

1. Very disappointing
2. I guess size matters. Or said differently their bigger “non position players” brutalized our “non position players with their size and bulk.
3. They played with no passion or urgency
4. Even without Ponds we should have won if we are supposedly a top BE team.
4. Heron is a disappointment thus far. I’m not sure what’s up with him. But he doesn’t look like s former 5 star SE conference all star.
6. Refs were a factor. Not decisive. But it may be tfat Mullins act from the last few years have not been forgotten.
7. I wanted to see more of Williams snd a little of Roberts. We’re in foul trouble and we dint have a second big capable of even 5 mins?

Energy was bad? I don't know. We couldn't make a shot, that I know. That makes your energy look bad.

I knew this would be a long day when, early on, a Depaul player took a three pointer, trying to do nothing else but get fouled (he was trying to draw contact when he shot, and nothing else), and it went in.

Man, the lack of size is absolutely brutal. Look like a HS team out there. No excuse to have the roster as is. Ponds is out and we look like the worst team in the BE.

This was my first time at CA in nearly 4 years, and like you, I might never go back. It is such an uncomfortable experience to sit through a game in there. Nevermind the heat, but I'm not a big guy, about 5'9 160 pounds and my knees were still hitting the person in front of me and I felt crammed in between the people around me.

Agree. I also do not buy the argument that we lose the end game because the players are tired. These are young in shape athletes. They should be able to play 40 minutes if need be. They get rest at the time out. There are many players in the NBA who play substantial minutes night in and night out!

Without Ponds we probably are!

Zion Williamson plays 26 minutes a game, let that sink in.

Heron needs to really step it up I was so excited when we got him I thought he would get us to the next level be the robin to our Batman Shamorie but I’m just not seeing it with him. He shows streaks every now and then but tonight was a perfect game for him to step up and have a big night and he didn’t

Agree, I thought he looked great his first few games. He seems to have lost his confidence and looks out of control at times.
Did they give an update on Ponds after the game??
Hopefully not getting a consult from Lovett's physician.

I am mystified by him. His game needs a lot of work. Nice touch on his jumper, but very robotic when he handles the rock. I was hoping for the second coming of Mitch Richmond.

Heron’s straight line/go left game minimizes any mismatch he’d have against bigger players. Think playing as a SG or predominantly SF helped him.

Oh yeah, forgot about the brutal heat. No way I was wearing the white give-away shirt on top of the shirt i was wearing. I would have had heat stroke.

Williamson weighs 285 pounds hardly comparable to some of our "tired" guys who weigh less than 200 pounds. Also, in most games there is no need for Zion to play longer.
