This week.
Always so uplifting, 72. Why even follow if it makes you this negative?

Let me let you in on a little secret...this is going to be the second best season, at worst, we’ve had this century. Stop being so miserable.
"This week" -is a very simple two word statement. Your ludicrous comments on Johnny Jungle with your soul mate FOAD don't register as intelligent here.
Let me let you in on a little secret. Without the Heron heroics we lose this game miserably. We played mediocre as a team and Ponds, Simon and Figueroa led the team in mediocrity. I'm miserable for reasons other than the shit show we have been subjected but other than winning there was little to celebrate with this win.
I said "this week" because our next opponent, who is in a down year for them, has a gifted coach and we don't. It's as simple as that.
"...this is going to be the second best season, at worst, we’ve had this century."...

That is a funny by you I know but the guy we fired went to 4 post season tournament appearances and won 21 games twice. That, after 4 years, we may match or better that is an insult to our fans and Steve Lavin.

Now, if we beat Villanova, I will be happy to join you and FOAD in the Mullin parade on Union tpke.

The roller coaster ride continues. The guys on SJU are easy to root for. However, that's what makes it so frustrating. Something is just missing with this team. Plenty of talent. Too many letdowns, not enough urgency. I just can't put my finger on what it is. As an example, every game is important and we get a game like Saturday. Or tonight, lead at half-time and announcer at the half says hey SJU with the lead, at home, time to put down the hammer. What happens? Flopping around down one with 12 seconds or so to go. Star point guard can't hit second free throw and SJU is one front rim away from disaster. Its just not good enough.
Finally, I wonder who shows up on Sunday. I have no idea. Played 20 something games and I still don't know. I would think these guys want to play in the Tournament. I just don't know.

Just returned from the Arena. It was a very exciting game.

Thought it was worth saying that the crowd was definitely a factor tonight and brought an intense energy from the get go that is not always typical for our games. Every edge was needed in a game that we could have easily lost.

Heron had a huge night and if he had not returned from his knee injury to play brilliantly then we would have almost surely been looking at a defeat tonight.

After the game the players seemed wiped out physically and emotionally and clearly left it all out on the floor. Kudos to them for their effort. They played very hard and it could almost make you forget the odd lack of energy they displayed Saturday against Providence.

Hopefully we will see more efforts like this. If we sustain this level of effort the rest of the year the season should end positively.

P. S. How many games this season have been undecided late that turned to a victory because of a huge L.J. Figueroa play?

P.P.S. Trimble defended really well against Jorgensen on Butler's critical second to last possession in O.T.
Year 1 8 wins
Year 2 14 wins 75% improvement
Year 3 16 wins 14% improvement
Year 4 18 wins and counting.

Building a program!!! Keep it up coaches, staff and players. Lets get NOVA this Sunday.
Can we pin this somewhere? Think everyone needs to remind themselves what the last 15 years have been like.

I have a good place to put it but our mods will not be happy so I shall remain silent.;)

Ha! Your sentiments on tonight's game are reciprocated. Certainly thrilled we won, but Heron saved our bacon. Of course, thankfully! Still too much one-on-one and wasted possessions for my liking. Where are the ball screens?! Nevermind.

Hopefully, we're able to bottle up this same energy on Sunday versus Villanova. We're playing a better bunch in our next game, so we need to be sure to dot the I's and cross the T's against Villanova.

It's a game that could all but cement our spot in the Round of 68, if we even go 9-9. Get the job done, and like '72, it may help me change my stance.

It is pretty sad, but not unexpected: In our previous game, Providence out-rebounded us by 20 (including 16 offensive rebounds).

I've been critical of Ponds's late game foul shooting in the past, but not here. His left arm was clearly in pain after that foul. I was not even sure he'd be able to take those free throws, so I'll take the 1 out of 2.

Didn't look like it affected him in the OT, so maybe it just stung for a bit.

What's pathetic is that our coach not only doesn't value offensive rebounding but discourages it.
Did you watch the Kentucky LSU game? They highlighted the LSU offensive rebounding drill.

I’m as frustrated as anybody on the Board that we blew an early lead, almost lost the game, but hung on—somehow—to pull it out, neutralizing the numerous times we messed up.
But we won.
And it doesn’t matter how ugly a win it was: we won and we’re still in the hunt in the BEC, in 3rd Place.
I’ll take it.
The Nova game is huge because it’ll tell us if we can compete with and maybe beat the best team in the conference late in the season.
Let’s do it.

Win is a win. If we would take care of business in transition tonight we win by 15. Instead we pull up for 3’s or a boneheaded turn over.

And if we had a veteran bench coach we wouldn’t have these meltdowns in the final minutes.

Well, that was fun! Hands swollen from hitting the signs, feet swollen from standing since an hour before the game started, voice gone and ready to pass out. Great crowd considering lots of factors and of course the crucial W.

We are a sprinter trying to win long distance races. Last 10 minutes of games are frightening to watch. If it’s not in Ponds we have no one to create offense.

This team gets killed on the boards because we have no one in position to rebound. I hate the sight of shoot-and-retreat with 4-5 opponents in position to rebound, while our guys backpedal on defense. Crash the boards, damn it.
