(POST-GAME) @Butler, Sat. Jan. 19, 4:30pm, FOX / 570AM

We're entering an extremely, critical part of this season. Next week's game versus Georgetown is a "must win," IMO. We can't lose no more than four more conference games the rest of the way. We're gonna have to be 11-7 or better going into the Big East Tournament to feel comfortable about getting into the "dance." If we're 10-8 or worse going into the conference tournament, then we're gonna need a win or two (depending on our record) in the Big East Tournament to feel safe about the dance. Anything less, and we're staring at the NIT.

Everything is still there for us, and we could potentially get our act together. But color me uncomfortable at this juncture.

Marvin Clark II: “We just didn’t play great collectively as a team for 30 minutes, with the passion we needed to win in this building. It was there in the spurts. On the road, we just got to be better. Be a little more locked in, be a little more focused." #sjubb

Should they get this by now? veteran team, no?
Veteran team on paper. 4/8 in rotation playing first season here.
Here we go!!!
4\8 playing first season excuse. Welcome to transfer U. That will be our story until this staff learns to recruit and top players out of prep actually believe in them. Hasn't happened in 4 years now.
Exactly, we should be transfer U which would allow SJU a ready made excuse each year of "we have too many new players to expect to win..."
Only problem is didnt that strategy work for Hoiberg and Matt

If given the choice I take this team over either of Lavin's tournament teams. I think they'll make some noise later.
Time will tell but that first Lavin team had balls of steel. Agree about the 2nd team
It kills me to say this, but I think that Lavin’s first team was better all around. They were much more balanced and deep, and had size. They were also far more disciplined. Dare I say, they looked to be better coached.
Why are we comparing this team to any of Lavin's teams? I thought this was the best team we've had since our Elite 8 team. This isn't directed at you, Monte.

Once again our defense is pathetic....the worst i have seen in years. We dont focus on their key men, we dont box out or even attempt to stop 3 point shots. Butler was so relaxed they almost shot 50 % from 3pt range...pathetic effort on defense.
What irks me even more is watching games on tv and seeing local guys who we dont recruit helping their teamd win. Just today saw 7ft 1 freshman from Archbishop Molloy playing for UCLA. We need big men why wasnt he recruited by us ??? Team after team, even Butler having someone from White Plains NY killing us.
All of the above, horrible defense, bad players (Heron is a turnover machine, Simon plays like a high school player, no common sense on the court) bad recruiting is all the fault of the staff. Forget about the NCAA tournament for another year and for the forseeable future if this staff remains.

I think the conference regular season title is a pipe dream now. But still should win 10 league games.

Depth, experience, continuity, size...that team has it all. But they couldn't hit the offensive glass at all and they didn't have a guy who could take over. This team has someone that can take over and they CAN rebound on offense.
Buckets?
Not even close.
Not even close to what? He had a phenomenal senior year for us. Averaged 18+ a game. Was our top scorer and ran the offense much of the time he was on the court. Had some huge baskets including the game winner against Pitt.
Remember the agenda, there are people on this board who are dedicated to the proposition that Norm was the worst thing ever. They swear by it. Therefore any mediocre team has to be better than anything he recruited and Lavin coached. Keep in mind that 2010-11 SJU team beat 2 number 1 seeds, a 3 seed, a 5, 6 and a 9 seed on the road in a League that put 11 teams in the Tourney in 2011. But we should look forward to this team making a 2011 like UCONN run because someone told us. The buffoonery is beyond transparent.
Some are either doubling-down on their foolishness or deflecting. Like I said, they could stll turn this thing around and make the season a huge success. But I've never been sold on the coaching, and nothing has happened for me to change my mind.

I’m not exactly pleased with the recruiting either, but it is pretty hysterical to see posters legitimately question why we don’t have every single good player that has ever come out of the state of New York lol

If so, then that makes the coaching below-average.

We have nobody on this team as mentally tough as DJ Kennedy - it's not even close.
Your Clark comment did not disappoint, 72. Cause the T wasn’t even on Marv. Either way, into Gtown
I watched the game in a loud sports bar. The screen shot had a technical on Clark. Never heard a word of commentary that you may have been privy to. I'll watch the replay but If it was a common foul on Clark and T on LJ it wasn't obvious watching the game. Either way both Clark and Figueroa were ineffective in crunch time.

What do Ponds and Figueroa have to do more of to earn that distinction?

My jury is still out on the staff.
My jury is still out on whether or not this team can be consistent on offense.
And my jury is still out on whether this team is willing to give an 100% effort for 40 minutes on both ends of the court.
What my jury in not out on is the fact that we have no bench, no size and no margin for error. Those last 3 things are not going to change between now and the end of the season.

Thought we were suppose to have the most talent in the B.E, and were supposed to have a real good season with the addition of Heron and LJ, well we're 3-4 in the B.E. and will probably finish 9-9.
I'm really starting not to care anymore.

And, how come we never have a bench? Last year, this year, I seriously wth?

Those teams had depth and didn't lose half of the players they recruited.

Play tough every game on both sides of the court, even when your shots aren't falling and never look disinterested as Shamorie has appeared to me on more than one occasion. Just my opinion and everyone sees things differently.

You take everything to one extreme or another. Not everything is an excuse, man. Sometimes it's just context.

Yes, we are a veteran roster, but only one kid has played here for three seasons and 4 of the 8 guys in our rotation are playing in the their first season here--and two of them have played less than 120 minutes combined! There is reason to believe that we will improve more than other teams.

We switch everything and the complex man takes time to master and it's hard to get used to teammates and their tendencies. We double more than anyone too. Those doubles are getting sharper and will result in some legit traps ina few weeks.

We also haven't settled the roles down yet.

Keita and Williams could potentially be completely different players in a few weeks as well. A competent Keita changes a lot.
