Gtown becomes close to a must win now. We are only in this spot because of crap luck with Ponds missing the one gimmee in the schedule.

If given the choice I take this team over either of Lavin's tournament teams. I think they'll make some noise later.
Time will tell but that first Lavin team had balls of steel. Agree about the 2nd team
I felt they weren't going anywhere when it counted. They did nothing in the BET and were blown out v. Gonzaga.

This team is more like Uconn that season. Barely makes it but a team nobody wants to play.
If my memory serves me correct DJ went out with torn ACL first 5 minutes against Syracuse
That's correct cost them a seed line in the NCAAs.

It kills me to say this, but I think that Lavin’s first team was better all around. They were much more balanced and deep, and had size. They were also far more disciplined. Dare I say, they looked to be better coached.
Depth, experience, continuity, size...that team has it all. But they couldn't hit the offensive glass at all and they didn't have a guy who could take over. This team has someone that can take over and they CAN rebound on offense.
Buckets?
Not even close.

Where does this years team rank offensive rebounding in the country ?

This team is what is. A team with some very talented pieces but very flawed and unbalanced. You hope that they can cover up those flaws when they need to such as at Georgetown but they will get exposed like they did today and it will get ugly.

I still think this is an NCAA team but at probably a 9 or 10 seed. We should expect more.
As of today, I thinks Ponds gets an invite to the combine but goes undrafted.
I''ve been saying all along I do not expect him to be drafted.

Not even close to what? He had a phenomenal senior year for us. Averaged 18+ a game. Was our top scorer and ran the offense much of the time he was on the court. Had some huge baskets including the game winner against Pitt.

I was pretty young Lavs first season, but I did go to the nova game at Wells Fargo with my dad that year. #12 torched Nova that day. don’t discredit what DHardy did that season. He was awesome

Since most agree that this is our most talented team in a long time, at what point is it on the coaching?

Marvin Clark II: “We just didn’t play great collectively as a team for 30 minutes, with the passion we needed to win in this building. It was there in the spurts. On the road, we just got to be better. Be a little more locked in, be a little more focused." #sjubb

Should they get this by now? veteran team, no?

He's not even close to Ponds, but who is? He was a complete liability on both defense and the glass. He was also not the same class of athete nor distributor.

There was never a single day where Hardy was looked at as a possible NBA player. Ponds has been in mock drafts for three years. He was an All--American as a soph.

I still rank Hardy highly. Top 10 the last 20 years.

Veteran team on paper. 4/8 in rotation playing first season here.

It may be our most talented starting 5 in a long time, but we still have no front line, are not deep and have little-no margin for error. I said it early in the year and it’s even more evident now: we do not have one player who can calm the ship in choppy waters. For all his talent, when the going gets tough Shamorie tends to try and do it all himself by going one on one. While that may result in some baskets, it does not get the team back in the flow of the offense. For all of our starting 5 talent, we are still a very flawed team.

Remember the agenda, there are people on this board who are dedicated to the proposition that Norm was the worst thing ever. They swear by it. Therefore any mediocre team has to be better than anything he recruited and Lavin coached. Keep in mind that 2010-11 SJU team beat 2 number 1 seeds, a 3 seed, a 5, 6 and a 9 seed on the road in a League that put 11 teams in the Tourney in 2011. But we should look forward to this team making a 2011 like UCONN run because someone told us. The buffoonery is beyond transparent.

The talented stuff is overrated...

Very flawed...

Where did I compare him to Ponds? Hardy carried the offensive load on that team, much like Hatten did on his teams. Both had great seasons for us and took over games oftentimes. Both great college players(I could care less what kind of pro prospects they were). Not comparing either to Ponds.

Norm was the worst coach ever. He was 6-12 with the same roster Lavin had plus Mase Jr.

Lavin couldn't coach either but had a genius by his side for two years who could.

A floor general who organized the team when needed. Ponds is great. Doesn’t detract from what Hardy did that year.
