(POST-GAME) @Butler, Sat. Jan. 19, 4:30pm, FOX / 570AM
Thought we were suppose to have the most talent in the B.E, and were supposed to have a real good season with the addition of Heron and LJ, well we're 3-4 in the B.E. and will probably finish 9-9.
I'm really starting not to care anymore.

And, how come we never have a bench? Last year, this year, I seriously wth?
Because we lose players. Some at mid season. The bench we are usually left with is offensively challenged and if they don't leave they develop at a snail's pace. Happens to teams who have figure head coaches and assistant coaches who don't need the job and are doing us a favor as one infamous ex-poster once said 3 years ago.

Marvin Clark II: “We just didn’t play great collectively as a team for 30 minutes, with the passion we needed to win in this building. It was there in the spurts. On the road, we just got to be better. Be a little more locked in, be a little more focused." #sjubb

Should they get this by now? veteran team, no?
Veteran team on paper. 4/8 in rotation playing first season here.
Here we go!!!
4\8 playing first season excuse. Welcome to transfer U. That will be our story until this staff learns to recruit and top players out of prep actually believe in them. Hasn't happened in 4 years now.
You take everything to one extreme or another. Not everything is an excuse, man. Sometimes it's just context.

Yes, we are a veteran roster, but only one kid has played here for three seasons and 4 of the 8 guys in our rotation are playing in the their first season here--and two of them have played less than 120 minutes combined! There is reason to believe that we will improve more than other teams.

We switch everything and the complex man takes time to master and it's hard to get used to teammates and their tendencies. We double more than anyone too. Those doubles are getting sharper and will result in some legit traps ina few weeks.

We also haven't settled the roles down yet.

Keita and Williams could potentially be completely different players in a few weeks as well. A competent Keita changes a lot.
I think both Keita and Williams improve considerably over time. I don’t see that happening over the next few weeks.

Your dreaming with Keita. He is in his 3rd year of college and that is enough to gauge talent. He is not a starter and should not see significant minutes

“Completely different players in a few weeks”

Oh my
Keita is AWFUL right now and a complete liability. If he can just get to competent that would be completely different to me.

Williams will only get better and I expect him to be a legit option soon.

A full week of practice at this point in the season is rare for a non-Ivy and the timing couldn't be better for us to rest up Ponds and get Keita and Williams heavily involved in practice.
Your dreaming with Keita. He is in his 3rd year of college and that is enough to gauge talent. He is not a starter and should not see significant minutes
I absolutely agree. We just need a stiff to play 10-12 minutes to keep Heron and Clark out of foul trouble. There is a chance he can become that.

They are playing like a team that will end up a few games under 500. Road wins a stretch and home wins no guarantee. Worst part is that team is regressing. After closing within 7 early second half, Butler quickly opened it up to a 22 point lead. Worst 3 minutes these guys have had all season. Even the announcers were wondering why the staff didn't change anything up by giving Butler another look.
The Georgetown game is a must win, we will be on 8 day rest and at home so I have to expect a win there
We still have a lot of hope for splits in the road losses. DePaul becomes a must road win, a Georgetown would complete a vital sweep necessary to go 10-8. Suspect we will get swept by at least one team so will need at least two sweeps for 10-8, 3 for 11-7.

Tough road.

What is your issue with Williams? I don't think it's fair to lump him in with Keita. He's already competent. There is every reason to believe he can become a solid 7th/8th man in February.

I think what he is saying is that his lack of playing time so far this year has tempered his expectations on what he could do this year and if he wasn't getting decent minutes cupcake time it's possible he won be getting decent minutes conference time.

I dont think thats unreasonable

God I miss Dixons 5 ppg on the bench already

If we learned one thing from this team, it's that speculating on what may happen is a fruitless endeavor. The only way to look at this season is game by game, and hope the team defends the 3, shoots about 40% from 3, and doesn't give the game away to second chance points. Their A game is usually good enough, provided they play it for close to 40 minutes. Their B, C or D game loses almost every time.

WTF are you talking about? You lumped them together, saying they could both be contributors in a few weeks. All I said was that don’t think either will become big contributors over next few weeks. That doesn’t mean I think thier respective talent levels are comparable or that’ll they’ll progress at the same pace. Having said that, right now we need more of what Keita can bring to the team. So hopefully he can give us something in the coming weeks. But a substantial contribution, IMO, is a longshot

Lol Maher! I'm actually a huge St Jean fan. I think he has an extremely bright future. Dunlap has like 40 extra years of coaching on him though. Side note, I don't know if anyone else notice GSJ slam his clipboard down a couple of times during the game. You can tell he has so much emotion invested in this team and when they do dumb things it really frustrates him.

This isn't complicated. When they shoot 40% or more from 3, they win, when they don't, they lose. In the losses, shooting ranges from the mid 20s to the mid 30s, with the second half 3 point shooting percentages being abysmal..

Relax. Take a deep breath.

I didn't lump them in together in terms of ability, and I interpreted your response to do that. No big deal.

IMO, Keita does not possess a high ceiling and I expect nothing from him beyond this year. Williams will be damn good and it's just a matter of when with him instead of if. I posted repeatedly that I didn't expect anything from him as a frosh but I think we can agree he's overachieved reasonable freshman expectations. Given the high bball IQ he's demonstrated thus far and his ability to not be a liability on defense, there is no reason be can't be playing 12-15 mpg consistently in February and March.

Never loved Jordan Tucker, didn't consider it much of a"loss" when SJU faded on him and he ultimately signed with Duke. Nor did I think it was a big deal that he transferred to Butler.

But man he ate SJU alive today. And you can tell he enjoyed some of his success against SJU today...sort of a NY guy-Westchester sticking it to SJU.

Not speculating about anything. Goal is bid, and 10 -8 should get us there. More important than w-l record right now are home losses and road wins. We have 1 of each. Beating Georgetown at home will give us 1 precious sweep. Losing to depaul at home is the worst loss of season and makes beating them away very important. Away losses are pretty much as they were supposed to go.

We're 15-4. That's a shit show? We beat SH and Ponds missed a game against DePaul or we'd be 17-2.

I'm not going to cry over losing at Nova and Butler. Very good teams have lost there in the past.

I think this team finishes third or fourth in the regular season and at least makes the championship game. This won't be the last loss.

We've played 4/7 big east games on the road. Be somewhat reasonable. We are still in a good position to split with everyone and can even gain some sweeps starting next game with Gtown at home.

Lose there and I'll start to panic with you. Third place is 3-3 right now.
