One of my favorite John Wooden quotes is "timeouts are a sign of weakness".

Without those 2 timeouts to spare at the end, we probably would be crying now.
However not calling a TO up 3 and the ball with less than a minute left, could have avoided Wusu to continue to dribble in traffic and coughing it up. The whole possession had a bad look from the start. You’ve two TO’s in your pocket. Use one to get your team composed.

As far as I'm concerned, Wusu didn't lose composure.   He just made a bonehead decision to try to dribble through 3 defenders at the foul line.    He made a preprogrammed decision to split those 3 guys for a layup.    To me, that's where instinct comes in and not so much coaching.   I'm sure they will work on this in practice.
Making a bone head play equals losing composure. With Posh out, Wusu is our primary ball handler. Call TO, settle him down so he doesn’t dribble into trouble. I much rather have a two possession lead with one TO rather than a 1 point lead with 2 TO’s.

Last win at Hinkle prior to today

A few years back, we traveled to Villanova at the end of the regular season with a bid all but assured.  Lavin gave D'Angelo the game off to nurse his ailing shoulder.    I went there with my family for the game and Nova crushed us by what seemed like 40 points.

Our chances for a win go down radically without Posh, needless to say.    However, if letting him heal means keeping him out of this one and having him closer to 100% for next weeks home game vs. Seton Hall, I'd do it.

Damn, I really hope Posh can play as Nova will be vulnerable without Gillespie.  Obviously don’t want to do anything to jeopardize the long term health of Posh so staff needs to be conservative.  Not a good sign that he couldn’t finish the game out down the stretch.  Hopefully at worst, this keeps him out a game or two.
That is what I am talking about.  The drop off from Gillispie to their backup is enormous.  With their lack of depth, its even more enormous.  We need to play the long game here.  There is no rest btwn games moving forward.  Unless posh has a miraculous recovery, you have to start taking chances here.  Nova w/o gillespie is far worse for nova then st johns w/out posh because of our guard depth.

Now Posh has a full week to heal.  As opposed to giving it a try Tuesday night and having a setback.  Id take my chances and try to get Nova w/o gillispie at the garden w/o posh.  I think we will win.

Yes, thanks for the correction.

If Posh can play, he will play. If he can’t go, he will be out.

Because of the games they lost earlier in the season, the team cannot afford to give Posh a game off.

I was at that game.  Believe we were up by 14 early.  I thought it was obekpa who didn’t play

Just when things seem to be coming together we lose Posh. This program can’t catch a break! Hope he’s back soon.

I think Nova without Gillespie would be favored over a full strength SJU team regardless of where the game was played .  But agree staff should not risk further injury to Posh if he’s not ready

Mathis should be coming off the bench giving us 10 minutes a game.  Coburn should be starting and giving is 25 minutes a game.
Anderson's biggest weakness, and I've said it before, is that he is in love with defense,

Mathis can defend, plays all out, and is a hard worker.  It shows when he's on the court.  However, he has very little, if any, offensive skill set.  Coburn is obviously a hard worker too (especially off the court), but he's not nearly as good as Mathis defensively.

Mathis should be pulled anytime he takes an outside shot. Don't get me wrong, he plays hard, is a pretty good defender and drives hard to the hoop. But his shooting range is about 5 feet. He should be banned from taking any shots beyond that distance.

He did hit a big three that gave us a chance to beat Providence.

I agree. But if there is anyone on this team that can find a way to play, it is Posh.

you're right.  and branch.

Best part of this win is they won a tight game on the road that required them to get stops and execute on the offensive end and make free throws.  They were 3 for 3 on all of them.

Also they had a very large free throw disparity in their favor something we always seem to point out when it goes the other way.

Next 3 games Villanova/UCONN/Xavier.  I think they need to get 2 of them.  That will get them back to .500 and also will be 2 more Quad 1 wins.

I hate to be the barrier of the bad news but if Posh is out coach will definitely start Wusu, coach has done that most of the season when posh has been out. Btw this just my opinion but feel very strongly that's what will happen......
