This is why when it is all said and done despite playing in an era of Coach K, Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, Rick Pitino, John Calipari etc you can make a case that Bill Self will be the most accomplished coach EVER. He probably won't get to 5 NC's like K but his run at Kansas is quite frankly getting to be every bit as good if not better than all of those coaches.

He has been at Kansas now for 20 years and before that Illinois for 3. So 23 years at a high major. He has won or shared conference regular season title (Big 10 and Big 12) in 19 out of those 23 years. The other 4 seasons he finished 2nd 3 times and 3rd once.

It is a ridiculous run of sustained success that is bordering on what K did at Duke, what Roy did at Kansas and UNC and what Rick had going at Kentucky before he left for the Celtics.

Agreed. And in actuality, I think it overshadows what K did at Duke and it’s criminally under talked about on the national scale. His B12 dominance is unparalleled.

While he was coaching at NM in a game against Air Force.

A call went against him (which he obviously did not like), and he yelled at the referee that 9-11 is over. Meaning the refs should stop giving the military any advantage.

It was dumb.

Despite what happened , Fran was a good Coach . He recruited well and while a nut job on the sidelines during a game could actually handle in game adjustments . He had the misfortune of being our Coach during the Dark Ages of School Admistration . Which no doubt fueled his interest in inquiring about other jobs . Who could blame him ?

Honestly I agree with slyfox and maybe time away and maturity kicked in. Would rather have him than Anderson . N

It means the inevitable departure of Pitino is beginning to set in at Iona in such a way the school forgot how to put together a simple sentence.

Which is good. But since our alum base is so old, tell them to be careful they don’t hurt themselves while landing.

I mentioned this a while back. Iona knew going in, they would have Pitino short term. It was a deal that worked out for both sides. They showed good faith by offering him an extension which they knew he would turn down. This is no surprise to them. Do I think they want him at St John’s? Not at all

He was stunned to find out what the facilities were subpar and the administration refused to move into a new century way of thinking? Fraschilla is trying to rewrite history.

And let us not forget that Fraschilla did eventually get his wish and went to a school with impressive facilities and a great fanbase at New Mexico.

Also, how many schools have been banging on his door to return to coaching? He has a winning record and is a successful recruiter.

Fraschilla’s biggest career obstacle had nothing to do with facilities or fanbase. It was himself.

I agree with that. No denying he was a good coach.

But normally good coaches keep getting jobs until they no longer win. Fran needed a personality transplant.

Did Fran recruit well at New Mexico? He had a nice pipeline to the Riverside Hawks. I always wonder how his recruiting would have been after that AAU team went downhill.
