Possible Coaching Candidates

I think we should have hired him 8 Years ago. We would probably be in a much better place now.
Funny..if we hired him 8 years ago I think we would have dealt with him getting poached away from us at some point… now at 71 we will be his last stop… perfect. I know him a bit and some of his close friends, he really wants to come here.. the Wingfoot house, NYC apartment it all fits…

He’s even younger. 70 now. Will be 71 in six months. Get him now!

From a public perception standpoint, Shanley/Cragg have no choice but to get the message out there that they are interested in Pitino. If word got out that they didn’t at least attempt to open discussions with Pitino (he’s literally in our backyard) they would be run out of town, and they know it.

Whether Shanley actually plans to step up and make a serious bid for Pitino is another matter altogether.

Was told by a coach last night at the CHSAA games at SJU that Pitino makes “so much sense but it’s SJU so you know it won’t happen” and he laughed. He also said that it’s instant credibility, no meetings, no intros. He walks in the gym and every will notice.

His biggest point was that with constant NCAA re-alignment, you want a guy who the other conferences will value.

I don’t know if our fan base understands what this hire could do. We’ve been beaten down for so long

The fanbase absolutely understands the what this hire would do.

That's actually as you know 100% true. March of 04 or 05 I dont remember

2004-05 I log onto redmen.com at like 4am and Traczok who lives in Cali sees me online and pm's me. He says " what are you doing online so late " I tell him " I just got home from NYC I met this really hot asian tonight "

2nd date driving down west side highway 15 minutes after picking Nat up

mjmaherhr " wait aren't you asian ? "

Nathalie " I'm peruvian why the fuck would you think I'm asian "

It's a fine line.

My Asian wife is sometimes confused for being a Latina - folks have come up to her in NYC and asked for directions in Spanish.

Wait, what is this thread about?

Oh, okay. So is Pitino confused for being Asian?

A lot of dumping on Fran on this board while in the mean time he is the best thing that has happened to this program since Luigi.
Despite what happened , Fran was a good Coach . He recruited well and while a nut job on the sidelines during a game could actually handle in game adjustments . He had the misfortune of being our Coach during the Dark Ages of School Admistration . Which no doubt fueled his interest in inquiring about other jobs . Who could blame him ?

This is not dumping on what Langel has accomplished... he can definitely go on to succeed at bigger program and establish himself even further... But there will Always be a "Langel" out there... there will always be a solid Low-Mid major coach having success...

There is only one Pitino... (well there is 2...maybe more lol- but u get my drift)

Fraschilla was poking his nose around other jobs after one year.

He was stunned to find out what the facilities were subpar and the administration refused to move into a new century way of thinking? Fraschilla is trying to rewrite history.

And let us not forget that Fraschilla did eventually get his wish and went to a school with impressive facilities and a great fanbase at New Mexico.

And Fraschilla being Fraschilla imploded there as well. Remember the stupid 9-11 comment during a game against Air Force.

Also, how many schools have been banging on his door to return to coaching? He has a winning record and is a successful recruiter.

Fraschilla’s biggest career obstacle had nothing to do with facilities or fanbase. It was himself.

I’m with you that there is only one Pitino. But I’ll just say not to downplay what Langel is doing. I’m trying to find the list of coaches to win their conference 5 straight seasons (reg season 5/5 and tourney 4/4) and I’m having no success. I’m sure it’s. A tremendously small list at any level of D1.

This is why when it is all said and done despite playing in an era of Coach K, Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, Rick Pitino, John Calipari etc you can make a case that Bill Self will be the most accomplished coach EVER. He probably won't get to 5 NC's like K but his run at Kansas is quite frankly getting to be every bit as good if not better than all of those coaches.

He has been at Kansas now for 20 years and before that Illinois for 3. So 23 years at a high major. He has won or shared conference regular season title (Big 10 and Big 12) in 19 out of those 23 years. The other 4 seasons he finished 2nd 3 times and 3rd once.

It is a ridiculous run of sustained success that is bordering on what K did at Duke, what Roy did at Kansas and UNC and what Rick had going at Kentucky before he left for the Celtics.
