We’d run Langal out of town before he had a chance to be successful. It was like year 5 or 6 before he turned the corner at Colgate.Langel could turn out to be a great coach but SJU needs a good coach who can raise the interest in SJU basketball as well as build up the fund raising. Pitino is probably the only possibility who has those credentials so he has to be the top priority but if he is not interested Langel will become a viable candidate.
By conference standards (support and facilities) Colgate is in the top third of the Patriot and St. John’s is not in the top third of the the Big East.
Colgate is enjoying the results of a) a good hire b) investment in the program c) patience and consistency. Somehow that doesn’t seem very St. John’s-y.
