Possible Coaching Candidates

1. The Xavier micced up game was the death knell. Team apathy in the huddle, no one pays attention to Anderson, Anderson has nothing to say.
2. For four years, forty minutes per game, every game...we have been leaving 3pt shooters wide open. No acknowledgement, no changes.
3. Offensive sets and plays are few and infrequent.
4. Give him credit for overachievers...Rutherford, Dunn, Champagnie and Wusu.

The run and gun offense, the 90 feet of heat defense...outdated. His assistants know it, but CMA stuck with his system.

He knows he's gone, not wearing SJU colors like his staff...but for us, we start over again.
5. Players lost : Figgy, Earlington , Roberts , Williams, Dunn, Cole, Moore ., McGriff and I more I forget who left mid season . That’s 9 players . 6. And , if they had other places to go , who’s to say Posh , Wusu, Stanley wouldn’t leave too? I think Pinzon , Curbelo are gone definitely . Perhaps Storr, King as well . I ‘m not wishing a mass exodus of any of these Players but , if you don’t accept it as a possible reality , it’s a bit short sided . One can deny it but , for a good portion of this season many of these players have tuned Mike out . Only Soriano and Wusu at times pay attention . Anderson has built a decent legacy , not great and him staying here only diminishes whatever that is … He had the ability to get 4 and 5 star players at Arkansas yet , didn’t meet the expectations placed on him by the Arkansas Administration . Did he have better X’s and O’s there ? Not likely . He had better players able to overcome his strategic deficiencies . Then , the better players stopped coming to Arkansas .

Outside the box name and probably too big of a jump- Joe Gallo. Built up the Merrimack program that moved up to D1. Won the NEC regular season championship in his 1st D1 season and won it again this year. Due to transition rules, they haven't been eligible for Tournament play yet.
Plus he’s no longer a part of the Impractical Jokers so he should have some free time.

Looking at some NIT bracketology (LOL), it appears Seton Hall and Nova are just barely IN (around the 4-5 lines, and keep in mind 6-8 are generally auto bids).

NET obviously isn't everything, we'd be ranked a bit higher than our NET indicates, but just for reference: Seton Hall is #75, Villanova is #80, and St. John's is #97.

This means that even if we reach the FINALS of the BET that may not be enough to make the NIT, but beating Marquette (Q1) in the quarterfinals may at least give us a chance.

In other words: if we don't upset Marquette then the search needs to officially begin on Thursday at 2 PM (I assume it has unofficially begun already).
This is under the assumption they beat Butler. I think they will but if they don't they can get started first thing Thursday Morning. I imagine agents will be by their phones waiting for the game to be over Wednesday evening as well.

The guy who is worth a phone call is Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt.

Yes, I know Schmidt has turned down numerous opportunities in the past (most notably the Pitt job 5+/- years ago) but because Schmidt lost the nucleus of his team to NIL before the start of this season he may now be less comfortable with the future of Bona mens basketball.

The likelihood of Schmidt leaving Bonaventure for StJohn’s is slim but it is worth the phone call.

My personal choices:

Top Candidate: Rick Pitino

Former HM coaches not currently coaching: Mark Turgeon, Chris Mack

Current HM coach: Mike Boynton, Bobby Hurley Jr

High Mid Major coaches: Mike Rhoades, VCU

Lower Mid Major coaches: Pat Kelsey CofC, Dusty May FAU, Speedy Claxton Hofstra, Rob Senderoff Kent St.

Pure Desperation because no one else says Yes: Mike Brey

This list is a mix of who I would like considered and a few who I think will probably be considered but not necessarily at the top of my list. Probably missing a few as well. Also chances are the next coach is someone we are not even discussing....lol

Just throwing this out there as I don't believe it's been mentioned yet. What if Pitino IS St. John's top choice, but for leverage they are not allowing that to leak? Obviously if it was common knowledge he was choice #1, in combination with how badly St. John's fans want him, that'd give Pitino quite a bit of bargaining power.

This guy claims to be connected and maybe he is a little bit but we'll see. I have seen others express that Cooley to Georgetown may not be as implausible as everybody's gut instinct would have them believe.

Like Pitino, one of Cooley’s kids graduated from Georgetown University.

So if I'm following this over the past 2 months you have moved from Pitino, to Speedy to now advocating for Mark Schmidt. In a few days will it be Kimani Young?

I'll add Matt Langel of Colgate in the Low Mid Major list.

I think it's more about the ceiling for winning it all is higher at Georgetown than it is Providence.
Cooley turned down Michigan a few years ago. He loves PC but I think he understands like Willard understood with SHU there is a ceiling at those schools with limited resources. If Gtown calls he will need to think real hard because this maybe his last chance to leave for a bigger job. And yes Gtown has been horrible recently but make no kistake it is a better job than PC.

Of course if he loves PC and thinks it is a dream job then he probably stays forever.

This means SJU could sink even lower than anyone could imagine, paying Brey and Anderson to coach in the same year.
