Possible Coaching Candidates

Speedy in a good one on CBS Sports QF matchup with UNCW. Hofstra down 3 in OT.
Hopefully Hofstra gets an NIT bid. Unfortunately Hofstra has no inside game and relied too much on outside shooters like Estrada. The shots didn't fall in the closing minutes.

So what ?

If hired, Speedy or anyone else hired to replace CMA would be hired to be the men’s basketball coach not the choir director.

More important it is entirely possible that the marriage ended without fault of the male coaching candidate.
I was specifically responding to Rocket’s comment that Speedy is “a wealthy multimillionaire and salary is just an ego factor”. It was not a moral point I was making strictly $$$$.

If we ain’t hiring a slam dunk I agree we should stay with CMA. There are worse coaches than him to have. But I’ll say it again had we not run Lavin out of town we would be competitive every year.
I agree with that about Lavin. He would have had a down year that next year but he’d have had us a hell of a lot more competitive than our next 2 hires

They won their conference regular season, they get an automatic bid to the NIT
Quick question Charleston finished in a tie with Hofstra at 16-2, Hofstra won the tiebreaker thus got the number 1 seed.

But technically Charleston won a share of the regular season. If Charleston does not win the Tourney do they BOTH get an NIT bid?

Nope, just one team per conference is eligible to get the automatic bid to the NIT. Theoretically the NEC can have a 4 way share of the regular season title but the 5 seed wins the tournament, the NIT wouldn't want 4 NEC teams in their field.

The regular-season champion of any NCAA Division I conference (as determined by the conference’s tie-break protocol) not otherwise selected to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship will secure an automatic qualification to the National Invitation Tournament.

Especially with the transfer portal and NIL now. I agree Roamer.

You're right. CoC would probably get an at large on its own if it came to it. They have a good NET.

Outside the box name and probably too big of a jump- Joe Gallo. Built up the Merrimack program that moved up to D1. Won the NEC regular season championship in his 1st D1 season and won it again this year. Due to transition rules, they haven't been eligible for Tournament play yet.

We played them this year and they seemed well coached. The problem I have with the NEC guys is how weak that conference is. Every school has a NET of 300 or above. That's why I think Grasso struggled in the America East. That isn't a great conference but has several much better teams and better coaches.

I appreciate the work into finding names.

But if SJU hires the coach from Merrimack, I will proactively suspend my account and just become sick somewhere alone.

Just heard Francesa's latest podcast. Someone asked him about Pitino to SJU. he said he heard nothing about it and a lot of chatter about Pitino to G'town. Take it for what it's worth.

Not much. Also it's not exactly a huge scoop. He probably just read it on a board...Maybe this one...fbaker...

Looking at some NIT bracketology (LOL), it appears Seton Hall and Nova are just barely IN (around the 4-5 lines, and keep in mind 6-8 are generally auto bids).

NET obviously isn't everything, we'd be ranked a bit higher than our NET indicates, but just for reference: Seton Hall is #75, Villanova is #80, and St. John's is #97.

This means that even if we reach the FINALS of the BET that may not be enough to make the NIT, but beating Marquette (Q1) in the quarterfinals may at least give us a chance.

In other words: if we don't upset Marquette then the search needs to officially begin on Thursday at 2 PM (I assume it has unofficially begun already).
