In order to assess risk, you have to determine what there is to lose. Care to explain what SJU has to lose if it parts way with Anderson?

Redfazed, not sure how closely you're related to CMA, but I can tell you that as a 55 year plus SJU fan and a supporter of CMA until it became obvious this year that he cannot succeed here, I am more than willing to take the mid-major up and comer risk (see Jay Wright, Ed Cooley etc.) and if SJU doesn't make a change my interest next year will be as close to zero as it has been since after the Pittsburgh scandal.Everyone seems to be assuming that CMA is, to coin a phrase, "irredeemable" at this point. I'm not so sure. I am, on the other hand, 99.9% sure that his buyout will cause the admin to go with a mid-major "up and comer" whom the odds say will not ultimately materialize into a successful high-major coach - and in any event, will involve another lengthy rebuild. I'll take my chances with one more year of CMA.
For every Ed Cooley, there are 5 Keno Davis's.Redfazed, not sure how closely you're related to CMA, but I can tell you that as a 55 year plus SJU fan and a supporter of CMA until it became obvious this year that he cannot succeed here, I am more than willing to take the mid-major up and comer risk (see Jay Wright, Ed Cooley etc.) and if SJU doesn't make a change my interest next year will be as close to zero as it has been since after the Pittsburgh scandal.
And for every CMA there is Steve Lavin and Chris Mullin both of whom got us to NCAA. Sorry, I’ll take the risk which seems minimal. For every Ed Cooley, there are 5 Keno Davis's.
True but seeing the trajectory of CMA here fron years 2 to 4 the question is what would give you optimism that in year 5 he’d come even remotely close to an NCAA bid. I’m not even optimistic we’d be better than this year. I wish this worked out with CMA. I have no doubt he works harder than Mullin he worked harder than Lavin although Lavin runs circles around him in results but unfortunately it’s clear it’s trending down. I’m not furious at CMA like I was at Mullin this is more of a depressing feeling as a fan of our teamFor every Ed Cooley, there are 5 Keno Davis's.
CMA's track record pre-SJU --which was only 4 years ago!--was solid. Three NCAA Tourney appearances in the 5 years immediately preceding his time here. We would have killed for that. He was Big East COY 2 years ago. I just don't believe his ability to succeed has somehow evaporated.True but seeing the trajectory of CMA here fron years 2 to 4 the question is what would give you optimism that in year 5 he’d come even remotely close to an NCAA bid. Perhaps he was actually underachieving at Arkansas too. How has Arkansas fared since he was fired?CMA's track record pre-SJU --which was only 4 years ago!--was solid. And you could argue that he way over-acheived at Missouri.Perhaps he was actually underachieving at Arkansas too. How has Arkansas fared since he was fired?
if you need to go back 15 years to find the last time he didn’t underachieve maybe he is in fact the problemAnd you could argue that he way over-acheived at Missouri.
1. The Xavier micced up game was the death knell. Team apathy in the huddle, no one pays attention to Anderson, Anderson has nothing to say.
2. For four years, forty minutes per game, every game...we have been leaving 3pt shooters wide open. No acknowledgement, no changes.
3. Offensive sets and plays are few and infrequent.
4. Give him credit for overachievers...Rutherford, Dunn, Champagnie and Wusu.
The run and gun offense, the 90 feet of heat defense...outdated. His assistants know it, but CMA stuck with his system.
He knows he's gone, not wearing SJU colors like his staff...but for us, we start over again.
Hofstra won huge today. Best of luck to them tomorrowUp and coming points to speedy and if and when he succeeds we then lay him more he will just appreciate in value in time
You don't say? Well I can't speak for the many other posters here, but I'm shocked, shocked I say that you want to give CMA more time. I mean nothing in your posting history would suggest such an opinion. I imagine you believe that CMA has used these last 4 years as a foundational building block for what's in store for year 5. He's just waiting to unleash his true coaching genius which he obviously could not have exposed in his first 4 years... You know a well coached team with post season aspirations! Imagine our disappointment if we don't give him that chance!Everyone seems to be assuming that CMA is, to coin a phrase, "irredeemable" at this point. I'm not so sure. Redfazed I know you are in the minority on this board about giving Anderson another year and I respect that you have stated your opinion, despite it being an unpopular one here. Personally I like Coach Anderson and respect his work ethic and positive persona. I also think he has put together a hardworking and talented staff. If it plays out that he returns next year, I will definitely be at the games supporting him and the team. That said, it is hard to not be disenchanted with the direction the team has gone the last two years. I can even argue that some things have improved during his tenure (no Big East tournament/NIT season ending embarrassments as opposed to Mullin and Lavin teams) and no terrible public relations messes with players (see Obekpa and Jordan). However the lack of improvement with this team has been pretty glaring and given CMA's stance that this was clearly his best team talentwise, he needs to be accountable for the poor results. We finished will behind rebuilding Seton Hall and Villanova teams and were not competitive in the four games against either of those teams (losing by an average of more than 14 points per game). While his first two teams overachieved, his last two teams have underachieved significantly and they seem as a Program headed in the wrong direction. I don't think he will survive the fact that this year's team will again not make the post-season and have not achieved stated expectations. And you could argue that he way over-acheived at Missouri.
Spot onInstead of a search committee to help look for a new coach, I suggest a different type of committee. Bring in some experts that can sit Father Shanley and Cragg down after these experts visit CA, the practice facilities, and are advised on all the perks, or lack thereof, the university offers compared to successful programs. Part of the team should be a NIL expert who can evaluate how to best use NIL at St. John's. Remove from power anyone that alienated Repole and other possible big time potential supporters of the program. Before trying to fix what 7 coaches and 2 interim coaches could not, find out why the program has been in disarray for so long. Or for a simpler approach, just throw a lot of money at Rick Pitino and offer him the full support of the admin, which may include spending money where he feels it is needed.
