Possible Coaching Candidates

Everything I have been told is that the decision to not retain Mike Anderson past this season has been made.

Assuming that and assuming there aren't any monetary conditions on his buyout that are more favorable to SJU if they wait a few weeks to make it official then I don't have any idea why they would wait to announce the dismissal once their season is complete.

Here is Brian getting the axe shortly after they lost in the BE Tourney. He was "forced" to resign. God reading this NY Times article from March of 1996 about his firing just brings back memories of the search and of course of hiring Fran.

Funny SJU made no bones about it as Ed Manetta said, Brian was "asked" to resign. Brian hung around SJU because SJU had to fulfill his guaranteed contract thru 2000.

I would be a tad bit surprised if CMA isn't formally relinquished of his duties within 24-48 hours of the final buzzer sounding on the Butler or Marquette BET game, whichever one is the one we lose.

Are the members of the BOT against Pitino or is it more of a power struggle. The SJU board make hundreds of decisions yet they are known mostly for their decision some sixty years ago not allowing Lapchick a waiver to continue coaching which would have given SJU a reasonable shot at signing the greatest high school player of all time who turned out to be the greatest college player of all time. There were even newspaper reports telling of their resistance. They became important.
Recently they banished a potential donor from having any influence in the basketball program and seem to have the power to keep Pitino away. Sixty years have gone by but not much has changed.

And you saying the same thing every 5 mins is getting old 😂

If it’s Pitino or bust for you, then you might as well leave now! I don’t want you to leave but feel that it might be best for your mental health.
I'll wait it. I'm not listening to people.

Talking doesn't mean anything to me. Example, Jerry Jones saying oh Jason Garrett isn't going anywhere, I don't know what all this talk is about. Then what happened after the Cowboys was eliminated? Jason was fired lol.

So hearing things doesn't mean a thing.

I don’t think there will be a change before the end of NCAAs.
As. you stated in another post, the only reason for that would be if a potential candidate is still coaching. Other than that, if Anderson is not let go within 20 minutes of his last loss and a potential candidate is not coaching then its business as usual at the school. We will soon find out how much Shanley cares about the hoops program and how much things have really changed if at all. Fingers crossed here.

Assuming the decision is made (I have no reason to doubt your intel), optically aren’t you not making the official statement until you at least have a thumbs up from the new coach.

I’m not saying they need a memorandum of understanding or anything, but if I’m Cragg and my name rightly or wrongly is associated with the last search, I wait until I have some one locked in and announce that he was our number one choice.

Gosh maybe I just want to trust the process so much that I’m grasping at straws just for signs that any process is in place.

If the bidding for Pitino comes down to St. John's and Georgetown, who is likely to win the bidding war? Ewing makes 4 million. CMA about 2.5. Which school is more flush with cash? Which is willing and able to spend more? Then add a few well off programs to the bidding. Where does SJU stand then? Maybe some people want to believe that Pitino is loaded and it's not about the money. That is a 500 to 1 shot. It's almost always about the money. It's like those murder mystery late night tv shows where the wife is murdered or disappears. It's always the husband. Maybe once in a blue moon it wasn't, but I haven't seen one that ends that way. There have been a few athletes to take less I suppose for a situation they really wanted, and maybe a few coaches too. But it's not likely to happen.

Fair but we recruit 4 & 5 star players we have little shot at too.

School needs to step up and not run away if we want to be big time..

Increasingly feel there are few strategic thinkers involved at SJU despite what their resumes say & $ donated to have seat. Hopefully a few good ones with common sense will be vocal

Huh so you are saying SJU should keep Mike Anderson employed until they know for sure who their next coach is?

Who does that?

If they are serious about cutting ties with CMA they should already know who they want and hopefully well into the negotiations on a contract. If that is the case, they should be able to pull the trigger on the new hire as soon as ties are cut with CMA.
